Cedar Mount Academy opened in August 2012 as part of the Bright Futures Educational Trust. The Trust includes six other schools, including two local primary schools and co-located Melland High School. Cedar Mount Academy is working with our Trust schools to provide a world-class education to open up real choices for all our young people. The formal partnership and collaboration mean that our students and staff have outstanding support from across the Trust to help them to excel. This will ensure we build on our recent success and achieve our aim of becoming one of the very best schools in Manchester. Cedar Mount Academy is a purposeful, happy, and dynamic community. As a result, not only are we continuing to drive up standards in all areas of our academy, we are also reviewing our curriculum to ensure it provides the academic depth and rigor to ensure our students are given every opportunity to succeed. Cedar Mount Academy has the highest expectations of its staff and students and we expect all members of our community to look smart, behave well, try hard and achieve their personal best in all that they do. We also want our students to be happy and successful and we work hard to ensure all students are provided with the right support to succeed. All admissions to secondary schools in Manchester are overseen and managed centrally by the Local Authority (LA). You may apply for a place for your child at any Manchester school. All parents/carers are asked to make their application on a standard form known as the Standard Application Form (SAF), which is available from the Manchester City Council. An admission pack, including the SAF and a booklet called ‘Secondary School Admissions Information for Parents’ will be sent to you. Cedar Mount Academy provides an innovative, forward-thinking program of study that enables all students to succeed, achieve, and, in turn, realize their full potential. The Key Stage 3 curriculum builds on students’ achievements in Year 6 to develop the breadth and depth of their knowledge, skills, and understanding. The focus within the Key Stage 3 curriculum is reinforcing learning skills, establishing and maintaining high expectations, developing students’ enthusiasm for learning, raising the level of challenge, and developing self-motivation by providing them with a wide range of learning opportunities including social, moral, spiritual and cultural enrichment. As students move into Year 10, we build on their previous progress and develop a range of opportunities that will benefit them, taking into account their individual needs at Key Stage 4. Cedar Mount Academy’s values are hard work, respect, and aspiration. These three characteristics underpin everything we are trying to achieve. We believe students need to be encouraged to work hard and be shown how important it is for them to always try their best. The students need to show respect to their peers and elders, with the teachers active in modeling this behavior. Finally having aspirations is promoted in all areas of the academy, with students encouraged to aim high and achieve their goals. The School Improvement Board is responsible for the strategic vision of the academy and for supporting the Principal and his staff in achieving that vision. The main purpose of the School Improvement Board is to provide support and challenge to the Academy, on behalf of BFET. It will do this through providing strategic direction, promoting high standards and educational achievement, and support the Principal to ensure that all the work co-ordinated (Teaching and Learning, Curriculum and Pastoral) is having a positive impact and is underpinned by a core data set. A wide variety of subjects are considered at each meeting, including the Principal’s report, reports from members of the Senior Leadership Team, and, very importantly, the approval of all major policies which underpin the running of Cedar Mount Academy. At Cedar Mount Academy we welcome everyone into our community. We endeavor to make available inclusive provision to ensure that all students, including those students identified with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), can enjoy and benefit from a broad and balanced education with access to the National Curriculum at an appropriate level, so that they may achieve their full potential. Our programs aim to actively support Cedar Crest College's mission to foster critical thinking and technological literacy while providing students opportunities to develop and demonstrate their leadership skills, creative abilities, and social awareness. Academic Services collaborates closely with Academic Affairs and Student Affairs to offer comprehensive programs and provides resources to support faculty and their instruction. Academic advising at Cedar Crest College is a dynamic, collaborative process that seeks to help students succeed academically, develop meaningful goals, articulate career plans, and foster students' responsibility for their education. Each new undergraduate at Cedar Crest receives their initial academic advising from an advisor in Academic Services. To ensure students receive the most accurate initial advising as possible, Academic Services advisors specialize in academic programs. After their initial academic advising, students transition to new academic advisors; first-year Traditional undergraduate students are assigned a First-Year Advisor through the First-Year Experience program, who will serve as their academic advisor until they declare a major. Transfer Traditional and SAGE undergraduate students are assigned to a faculty advisor in their intended major. However, throughout a student's academic career, Academic Services is always available to answer advising questions and help students with academic decision-making. Traditional students who have earned 0-23.9 credits (freshman standing) must receive their advisor's approval before registering for classes. Also, advisors must review and approve these students' scheduled after they have registered. Traditional students who have earned 24-54.9 credits (sophomore standing) must receive their advisor's approval before registering for classes. Though Traditional students who have achieved junior standing (55 or more credits) and SAGE students are not required to meet with their academic advisor before registering for classes, it is strongly encouraged. In Fall 2014, Cedar Crest College's Four-Year Graduation (4YG) Guarantee was open to all first-year, traditional students. Academically qualified candidates are enrolled full-time in a 4-year bachelor's degree program, except Nuclear Medicine Technology. It does not apply to the dual degree, fifth-year, or graduate programs. Provided students comply with all of the program's conditions, Cedar Crest College will guarantee graduation within four years. The guarantee extends to one major only. While many students add additional majors and minors and finish within four years, Cedar Crest will not provide a four-year guarantee in those cases. At Cedar Crest, we know how important your first year of college is to your overall success as a student. That is why we have created a year-long experience for our first-year students to meet their specific needs and transition into college. The Carmen Twillie Ambar Sophomore Expedition is a guaranteed study abroad program that gives each full-time, traditional student in good academic, social and financial standing the opportunity to spend 7-10 days abroad with her sophomore class nearly all costs covered by the college. In the semester leading up to the trip, students attend a weekly class to learn about the country they will be traveling to. When they travel abroad, students are grouped by their field of study to perform service-learning activities related to their area of interest. In 2018, the inaugural Sophomore Expedition took the Class of 2020 to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Education students had the opportunity to volunteer at a daycare for underprivileged children; science students explored the rainforest, and nursing students observed a plastic surgeon at work. Other students fed the homeless and planted a community garden. A majority of the trip was dedicated to service learning, but there was also time for some sight-seeing. Students took a train ride through Tijuca National Park, traveled to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain by cable car, and experienced breath-taking views of the Christ the Redeemer statue. The Sophomore Expedition is named in honor of Carmen Twillie Ambar, Cedar Crest College's 13th president. President Ambar believed that every student should be allowed to study abroad, no matter their financial situation. North Cedar Academy (NCA) is a dual enrollment private high school situated on ninety-six acres along the Flambeau River in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. NCA offers motivated and committed American and International students in grades 9 through 12 the opportunity to graduate from high school with an Associate in Arts (AA) degree from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire – Barron County (UWEC-BC) and high school diploma simultaneously. Students do not do twice the work; they receive both high school and college credit for each successful college course they complete. The NCA model allows a student to obtain a Bachelor's degree within two years of high school graduation and a Master's degree within four years. All NCA graduates who complete the Blugold Guaranteed Transfer Program are guaranteed admission into the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire to finish their Bachelor's degree. Students are also guaranteed transfer into any of the University of Wisconsin campuses – including the renowned UW-Madison campus – ranked the 25th best globally. College credits are also transferable to other colleges and universities. High standards are communicated during the application process, as NCA engages students in rigorous, in-depth academic work requiring intellectual inquiry, creativity, and critical thinking. While NCA is best suited for students who seek the challenge of rigorous curricula and college-level study, the NCA model is equally focused on developing outstanding young men and women committed to personal excellence, community involvement, and global awareness. Today, Cedar College has over 800 students and is still growing in both numbers and facilities. The most notable recent additions are the Creative Arts Centre, the two-story Resource Centre and Administration Block, and the Cedar College Sports Centre. The name Cedar College is derived from Psalm 92 v 12, which outlines a righteous person's growth, pictured as a cedar tree, growing to become healthy and vital and leading a fruit-bearing life. Cedar College aims to prepare students for real-life as they discover Jesus, display love, and develop self. Discover Jesus. The past few years at Cedar have seen tremendous growth in both our facilities and our student body.
