Welcome to the Crest Academy. We are a non-denominational, non-selective academy open to girls and boys from all backgrounds aged 11 to 18. We are proud to be a part of the E-ACT network of schools. Our beautiful building, state-of-the-art facilities, and outstanding educational resources provide exceptional opportunities for students. In addition, we have spacious, modern classrooms, laboratories, workshops and studios and 2 full-sized sports halls with additional outdoor facilities. At The Crest Academy, we believe that the academy should take its rightful place in the community as a center of excellence and first choice place of education. At Crest, we strive to equip our students with the skills that they need to be lifelong learners and prepare them to be successful in their future lives. We aim to ensure that we constantly reflect as practitioners to ensure that we are seeking for the key levers to drive forward exceptional progress for the learners in our care. To ensure that all lessons across the academy are at the expected level lessons are planned according to the Crest Essentials. The Crest Essentials are a set of expectations or features that have to be present in all lessons. We provide clear instructions about how students can demonstrate their new knowledge. Check students’ progress and understanding through suitable activities that gauge the progress of all students. Provide opportunities for students to review their learning based on the lesson objectives and success criteria. As part of the wider school, the Academy’s Sixth Form is a popular option for many of our Year 11 leavers, but also increasingly attractive to students from the wider community. We believe that every student’s learning journey with us is not simply about an excellent set of exam results but that every student is ready for university and every student is a leader. Make a positive comment to the class or individual students about their behavior for learning and/or learning and progress. Achievement points can be awarded as a result. Dismiss the class, in silence, one small group at a time, checking uniform as they leave the classroom. During year 7 to year, 9 students are in Key stage 3. Pupils experience a broad and balanced curriculum. Pupils study English, Maths, Science, PE, Music, Art, Languages, Geography, History, Religious Studies, IT, Design and Technology, and PSE. Additionally, students that are new to the country and whose first language is not English will continue on a curriculum pathway with English as an additional language lesson designed to support students develop their English language acquisition skills. Between December and January, students will receive information on the subjects on offer at Key Stage 4. Pupils will be on 1 of 3 pathways designed based on their prior attainment and progress since starting at the Academy. During Year 10 and 11 students are in Key stage 4. Pupils will experience a core curriculum of English, maths, science, and PE (non-examined). Students will select their option subjects in Year 9 and these will be studied until the end of Year 11. The options process is a guided process based on your child's attainment data and students will select from a suite of subjects available to them. When pupils join the academy they will complete two years of study in years 12 and 13 to prepare them for university or beyond. Academic Services is committed to offering academic support that enhances students' abilities to meet academic standards, guide students through the transition to the college learning environment, and prepare students for lifelong learning. Our programs aim to actively support Cedar Crest College's mission to foster critical thinking and technological literacy while providing students opportunities to develop and demonstrate their leadership skills, creative abilities, and social awareness. Academic Services collaborates closely with Academic Affairs and Student Affairs to offer comprehensive programs and provides resources to support faculty and their instruction. Academic advising at Cedar Crest College is a dynamic, collaborative process that seeks to help students succeed academically, develop meaningful goals, articulate career plans, and foster students' responsibility for their education. Each new undergraduate at Cedar Crest receives their initial academic advising from an advisor in Academic Services. To ensure students receive the most accurate initial advising as possible, Academic Services advisors specialize in academic programs. After their initial academic advising, students transition to new academic advisors; first-year Traditional undergraduate students are assigned a First-Year Advisor through the First-Year Experience program, who will serve as their academic advisor until they declare a major. Transfer Traditional and SAGE undergraduate students are assigned to a faculty advisor in their intended major. However, throughout a student's academic career, Academic Services is always available to answer advising questions and help students with academic decision-making. Traditional students who have earned 0-23.9 credits (freshman standing) must receive their advisor's approval before registering for classes. Also, advisors must review and approve these students' scheduled after they have registered. Traditional students who have earned 24-54.9 credits (sophomore standing) must receive their advisor's approval before registering for classes. Though Traditional students who have achieved junior standing (55 or more credits) and SAGE students are not required to meet with their academic advisor before registering for classes, it is strongly encouraged. In Fall 2014, Cedar Crest College's Four-Year Graduation (4YG) Guarantee was open to all first-year, traditional students. Academically qualified candidates are enrolled full-time in a 4-year bachelor's degree program, except Nuclear Medicine Technology. It does not apply to the dual degree, fifth-year, or graduate programs. Provided students comply with all of the program's conditions, Cedar Crest College will guarantee graduation within four years. The guarantee extends to one major only. While many students add additional majors and minors and finish within four years, Cedar Crest will not provide a four-year guarantee in those cases. At Cedar Crest, we know how important your first year of college is to your overall success as a student. That is why we have created a year-long experience for our first-year students to meet their specific needs and transition into college. The Carmen Twillie Ambar Sophomore Expedition is a guaranteed study abroad program that gives each full-time, traditional student in good academic, social and financial standing the opportunity to spend 7-10 days abroad with her sophomore class nearly all costs covered by the college. In the semester leading up to the trip, students attend a weekly class to learn about the country they will be traveling to. When they travel abroad, students are grouped by their field of study to perform service-learning activities related to their area of interest. In 2018, the inaugural Sophomore Expedition took the Class of 2020 to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Education students had the opportunity to volunteer at a daycare for underprivileged children; science students explored the rainforest, and nursing students observed a plastic surgeon at work. Other students fed the homeless and planted a community garden. A majority of the trip was dedicated to service learning, but there was also time for some sight-seeing. Students took a train ride through Tijuca National Park, traveled to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain by cable car, and experienced breath-taking views of the Christ the Redeemer statue. The Sophomore Expedition is named in honor of Carmen Twillie Ambar, Cedar Crest College's 13th president. President Ambar believed that every student should be allowed to study abroad, no matter their financial situation.
