The Mission of Belgorod State National Research University is to solve research problems of the international and national scale and, harmoniously integrating the educational, research, social and cultural functions of the University, to train highly qualified professionals capable of ensuring the competitiveness of Russia and Belgorod region on the global socioeconomic arena, preserving and developing the cultural and moral legacy of the country and the region. BSU became the primary Institution of the University of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the direction of "Nanotechnology." Belgorod State University was the only academic institution of the Belgorod region and the Central Federal District of Russia (except Moscow universities) to be granted the "National Research University" status. Belgorod State National Research University was ranked 30th among 103 Russian state universities, and about 500 branches are participating in the rating. The University raised to 13th position (from 51st in 2011) in the ranking of 60 academic institutions that participated in the Federal Bursarial Program of Vladimir Potanin Charity Fund. The University welcomed 9 Associates and Members of the Russian Academy of Sciences as new teaching staff members. The number of new scientific laboratories was reached 10. Some of them were founded under the Russian Academy of Sciences Associates and Members' participation or leadership. V.G. Shukhov Belgorod state technological university (BSTU) is one of 33 flagship universities in Russia. The universities that entered the national "Flagship University" program have a mission: to teach and train specialists for the regions in which they are located. Owing to developing the construction industry, the Belgorod region requires introducing new subjects, fields of studies, a large-scale application of project work and a technological upgrade of the material resources of teaching, and the provision of multi-professional training. Belgorod SAU is located in a lovely place called Mayskiy, which is 16 kilometers from Belgorod's city. Many outstanding people have visited Belgorod SAU since its establishment. Among them: the first President of Russia, Boris Yeltsin, prominent statesmen, agrarians, and scientists from Russia and from abroad as well. Lots of international students from Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, together with students from all regions of Russia, receive higher education in Belgorod SAU. At present, there are more than 300 teachers who work for 23 departments of the University. There are 49 doctors of sciences, professors, and 179 masters of sciences, assistant professors, chiefs of region administration, banks, and companies.
