Welcome to Town Center Private Schools also known as TCPS. Founded in 1986, TCPS is a unique school offering a Montessori Pre-School program, and being an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School.

As we entered our 32nd year, we continued our journey with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program implementation. Students who take the IB Program excel in university studies and beyond. It is so gratifying to find an ideology that can take our Montessori foundations and build upon them in both the Elementary and High School Divisions. In today’s world with rapidly changing parameters, critical thinking along with self-challenging habits are a necessity, and TCPS students will be able to rise to the challenges with ease.

TCPS now has the distinction of having an acknowledged certification in the Diploma Program (Grades 11 and 12), the Middle Years Program (Grades 6 to 10), and this year we were certified for the Primary Years Program (Preparatory to Grade 5) to earn the status of being an IB World Continuum School, providing our students with the tools to be active learners and communicators starting from the age of 4 years.

We have come a long way from our modest beginnings in 1986. One of the keys to our success has been the dedication of our teaching staff and administration. I would like to acknowledge their hard work and enthusiasm over the years. We have grown over the last 3 decades to become a reputable and respected educational institution and I look forward to our future together.

Our award-winning school has a long-standing tradition of providing students with a superior education in a safe, supportive and caring environment where they acquire the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed. Town Center is an International Baccalaureate World School. Located on the border of Toronto and the Markham / York Region, TCPS offers a Montessori Pre-School program as well as an IB Elementary School and IB High School.

Prospective students may enroll in the Montessori Pre-School program as young as 18 months of age with or without toilet training. The Pre-School offers a flexible program allowing students to attend full days or half days and enrollments are accepted throughout the year. The TCPS Montessori program includes instruction in Language, Mathematics, Social Science, French, Computer Studies, Physical Education, and the Off Music program. A Montessori Summer Camp program is offered during July and August with the option of weekly enrollment. Learn more about our Montessori Pre-School program.

For students in grades 1 to 8, TCPS offers a non-Montessori, Private Elementary School program. The Elementary program offers a well-rounded, academic education preparing and guiding students towards university placement. TCPS provides enrichment in the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, History, and Geography. In addition to the core subjects, French, Music, Computer Studies, and Physical Education are taught by teachers who specialize in these fields of study. An Elementary Summer Fun Camp is offered during July and August with the option of weekly enrollment. Learn more about our Private Elementary School program.

The High School division of TCPS is an established private high school drawing students from the York Region, the Greater Toronto Area, and internationally. TCPS offers advanced, university-bound courses and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. TCPS is registered with the Ministry of Education. The School accepts students from Pre-School to Grade 8 at any time throughout the year provided there is space available and the prerequisites are fulfilled.

The Montessori program is based on a well-known philosophy and teaching methodology. Students learn in an inviting and intellectually stimulating classroom led by Montessori-trained teachers. The students are treated as individuals and are allowed to progress at their own pace and level of understanding with gentle guidance from their teachers.

The Montessori classroom is fully equipped to provide children with a well-rounded education in which they are constantly learning at a conscious and subconscious level. It also capitalizes on the children’s “sensitive periods” by providing them with an environment that is full of interesting activities, leading to a strong academic foundation that will benefit them throughout their entire academic careers. Learning is a lifelong process, as Dr. Maria Montessori discovered very early in her career as an educator.

Here are some tenets on which Montessori education is based. Learning begins immediately from the time a child is born. Dr. Montessori strongly believed that children have “absorbent minds” and if exposed to information in a stimulating environment they will easily understand and internalize the information. Children go through “sensitive periods” between the ages of 2 and 5 when they have optimal learning abilities. A Montessori classroom is set up to maximize the amount of learning during these sensitive periods.

The Town Center Private School (TCPS) Elementary program offers a non-Montessori curriculum and welcomes students from grades 1 to 8 throughout the Greater Toronto Area, Markham, and York Region. The Elementary program offers a well-rounded, academic program preparing and guiding students towards university placement. Elementary classes feature a low student-to-teacher ratio and 2 teachers per class. Subjects such as French, Computer Studies, Music and Band, and Physical Education are taught by specialized teachers.

Town Center offers a rigorous academic program to fully prepare students for the demands of university studies. We challenge our students, but at the same time, we provide them with the support they need to rise to these challenges. All courses at Town Center are taught at the university entrance level. Specialized teachers instruct classes with a very low student-to-teacher ratio. TCPS offers the best features of a traditional university preparatory school including:

    • A systematic, sequential curriculum
    • High academic standards
    • Sound educational leadership

The School recommends that parents arrange for a tour of the facility and a meeting with a Vice-Principal to fully appreciate what the School has to offer to each prospective student. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or would like to arrange a visit.
