There is a driving determination to ensure that all pupils and adults reach their full potential. Our aims, visions, and priorities for improvement underpin all our policy and practice and we revisit and reflect upon these aims, visions, and priorities in our day-to-day work with the pupils and wider community. Harris Primary Academy Philip Lane opened in September 2012. We have 460 very happy, hard-working, and enthusiastic children who are being prepared for happy and successful lives, now and in the future. Nurture pupil diversity emphasizing individual talents in a wide range of fields, including academic, music, sport, art, and drama. Develop values and opinions within the context of mutual respect and understanding of differing belief systems and cultures within our community. Effectively implement the Federation equality plan and monitor progress towards meeting our equality duties We articulate our shared vision for improvement every day by ensuring we focus on the 7 Ps: Passion Purpose Positivity Progress Participation Partner work Pace We are a proud member of the Harris Federation of primary, secondary, and all-through academies and work closely with the central Federation team and other academies to ensure we constantly challenge, support, and encourage each other to meet standards of excellence and fulfill high expectations. Despite having one of the highest proportion of pupils of disadvantaged background in Haringey, 78% of Harris Phillip Lane pupils achieved the combined RWM, one of the highest in the country, and the top 5% of schools with similar pupils (Fischer Family Trust). Progress was ranked in the top 20% nationally for Reading and top 10% for Maths and Writing. Our 2017 KS2 provisional results rank us the seventh highest in the borough this year. We are lucky to be situated at the heart of a vibrant and diverse community with direct access to Downhills Park and close to the local swimming pool, public library, Bernie Grant Arts Centre, and a range of other amenities we use to enrich our children's learning. At HPAPL we aim to uphold the importance of ‘acceptance and engagement with the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs the pupils develop and demonstrate skills and attitudes that will allow them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain’ as laid out in the Ofsted Schools Inspections Handbook, 2015. As learners at Harris Primary Academy Philip Lane, our children are expected to do their best and value their education. As a Literacy specialist academy, we dedicate a lot of class time to ensuring our pupils become confident communicators, readers, and writers, alongside developing imagination, creativity, and confidence. We aim to prepare all students as fully as possible for their secondary education so that they are ready to hit the ground running when they change school at age 11. There are daily lessons in mathematics, reading, and literacy for children of all ages. As pupils progress from our Early Years, the curriculum and teaching styles will evolve so we continue to arouse our pupils' natural curiosity alongside teaching pupils the key skills and knowledge set out in the National Curriculum. Other subjects including science, computing, religious and physical education are taught each week. We aim to provide our pupils with a well-rounded and enjoyable education that ensures each child succeeds academically, physically, and emotionally - preparing them for life in an ever-changing world. We have identified six shared values, which we develop with the children throughout the academic year: Respect, Unity, Cooperation, Aspiration, Responsibility, and Integrity. Our evolving curriculum has been designed to challenge and inspire the children exposing them to a wide variety of exciting experiences including visits, events, sports, music, and drama but also time to reflect and respond. As a result, our children develop excellent behavior and social skills while they learn. Pupil Premium payments, which are used to enhance the quality of your child's education, are available to all eligible pupils. At Harris Primary Academy Orpington, Pupil Premium is used to provide your child with: Additional support with their learning including Speech and Language Support, Counselling, Booster Classes, and behavior and learning support Target support with reading Discount towards the cost of school trips, visits, and events Discount for all clubs and sports We have a list of '100 things' that we would like every child to have undertaken throughout their primary education. This includes simple things like walking barefoot on a beach and flying a kite to visiting ten London landmarks and performing in a concert. In work and play, our children are encouraged towards the 4Rs to be reciprocal, reflective, resilient, and resourceful. The specialism at our Academy is Literacy, which we chose because we believe that learning to read, write and communicate effectively is extremely important. All of our students have a reading lesson every single day – this is so that they can read fluently by the time they are age 7. Reports are sent home on a termly basis, providing parents with information about their child's progress and noted areas for development. Our aim at Harris Primary Academy Merton is to make sure that our pupils leave us thoroughly prepared for secondary school and feeling that they have succeeded both academically and in the extracurricular aspects of Academy life. We opened in 2014 as a local school for children aged three to eleven. We have a Nursery for 60 children and are a 2 form entry school for children in Pre School through to Year 6. We also have an additional resource base for 20 children who are diagnosed with Autism. We believe that children thrive when they are consistently happy and safe at school and that through expert teaching and support all pupils can achieve a high standard. As a part of the Harris Federation, we share best teaching practices with other Harris Academies and continue to build on the Harris Federation’s proven track record in the borough: with two successful and oversubscribed Harris Secondary Academies, Harris Academy Merton and Harris Academy Morden. Our Academy opened in September 2014 to meet significant demand from East Dulwich families for new primary places. We started with a Reception cohort and currently have children in year groups from Reception to Year 3 and will continue to grow by a year group at a time. Harris Primary Academy Coleraine Park is an Outstanding primary academy and we have high expectations and aspirations for your children. We want to raise standards and expectations by making sure that, whatever a child’s background or starting point is, they finish Year 6 with the academic skills, social skills, and knowledge necessary to succeed. Our aim is that each of our students should be able to hit the ground running when they begin secondary school. Learning at Harris Primary Academy Coleraine Park is exciting, engaging, and relevant. It prepares children for the world we live in now and for our future. In January 2014 we introduced a brand new curriculum which links learning to a theme. Each half term there is a whole-school theme, which is then divided into year group specific aspects, and most subjects are taught through the theme where possible. Our curriculum has been written to be in line with the new national curriculum for England. As half termly units are completed they will be published on our website. There are daily lessons in English (Reading, Writing, Phonics, Spelling, and Grammar) and Mathematics for children of all ages. This helps to make sure that they become confident readers, writers, and mathematicians in the earliest years of their education. Children also learn science, history, geography, RE, PE, art, design technology, drama, dance, and music. They study Personal, Social, and Citizenship education and begin learning a modern foreign language in Year 3. Our Key Stage 3 provision is largely covered during years 7 and 8 with many subjects commencing GCSE courses at the beginning of, or during, year 9. Other than the RE and non-Science component of Sex Education, all National Curriculum subjects are statutory and we cannot allow withdrawal based on religious grounds. We offer our first set of options to students during Year 8 in readiness for them to commence their GCSE studies in Year 9. We offer a wide range of options to students and then commit to run the most heavily selected courses, aiming to give as many students as possible their first choices.
