  1. The Urswick School is looking forward to celebrating its quincentenary in 2020 making it one of the oldest schools in the country. Where possible, the same number of children will be admitted into each of the four bands to ensure a balanced intake that reflects the full ability range. Children with statements of Special Education Need (SEN) and looked after children who do not take the tests will be allocated an appropriate band based on an alternative assessment (for example, KS2 Teacher Assessments in English and Maths). Having received a band allocation based on their CAT score, children will be awarded places within each band using the oversubscription criteria. Where the number of applicants for admission is greater than the published admissions number, applications will be considered against the criteria set out below. After the admission of children with statements of SEN where The Urswick School is named on the statement. The Governors will designate 50% of the remaining annual intake as Foundation Places (Church), with the remainder classified as Community Places (Open). Vacant places in one category will be taken by oversubscription from the other. If either or both of the categories of Foundation and Community places are oversubscribed, then the remaining places will be allocated using the oversubscribed criteria and procedures. Applications for In-Year admissions are made in the same way as those made during the normal admissions round. If a place is available and there is no waiting list then the Governors will communicate their offer of a place to the family. If more applications are received than there are places available, then applications will be ranked by the governing body under the oversubscription criteria without reference to banding. If a place cannot be offered at this time, then you may ask for the reasons and you will be informed of your right of appeal. You will be offered the opportunity of being placed on a waiting list. This waiting list will be maintained by the governing body in the order of the oversubscription criteria (as detailed above) and not in the order in which the applications are received. Names are removed from the list at the end of each academic year. When a place becomes available the governing body will decide who is at the top of the list so that the parent/carer can be informed that the School is making an offer. The Urswick School Sixth Form is a small provision offering excellent opportunities for students to progress to the University of their choice. Primarily designed for existing members of year 11, we also welcome applications from external applicants. Sixth Form students benefit from excellent facilities in our award-winning new building. Most lessons start at 9.30 am and finish at 4 pm. The library is open until 5 pm. The OFSTED accredited organization ALPS (Advanced Level Performance System) evaluates the data of school and Sixth Form Colleges. Each school is then given a score in terms of how much progress Sixth Form students have made from their different starting points and the effectiveness of the teaching students receive. In 2017 Urswick’s ALPS Score in respect of year 12 AS Level and Year 13 A Level places The Urswick School Sixth Form Academy in the top 10% of schools nationally. This means our Sixth Form is graded Outstanding. The Urswick School Sixth Form Academy offers a range of A-Level and BTEC subjects. Students study three or four AS Levels, followed by A2s in Year 13. They are placed in small tutor groups with specialist members of staff to support UCAS applications. We also offer a range of additional qualifications which will run alongside our main courses to enrich our curriculum offer. These could include the ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness at Level 3, Sports Leaders Awards, and other work / finance-related qualifications. At The Urswick School, we work hard to meet all aspects of our duty of care for our students. As the internet becomes an integral part of our and our children's lives, we also provide the necessary guidance and support in e-safety. Although the internet offers many positive opportunities, it is vitally important to know how to safely and appropriately use this technology. With children starting to use computers from a very early age, parents also need to be aware of issues around safe internet use and the precautions that they need to take. In 2014 we were named by the Department for Education as one of the Top 100 most improved schools nationwide. This is recognition of our transformed GCSE results over the last six years the proportion of students achieving 5+ A* to C grades with English and maths have more than doubled. Earlier this year we were awarded Artsmark Gold by Arts Council England in recognition of the excellence of our provision for Arts education. We are also members of the London Mayor’s Gold Club. The Urswick School was invited to join this prestigious group because of our ‘exceptional outcomes for all pupils whatever their circumstances. Our latest Ofsted report judged the school to be good with outstanding features. Ofsted praised the ‘exemplary’ behavior of our students and judged the leadership of our school to be outstanding. In the last three years, we have successfully established our Sixth Form Academy which offers a range of A-Level qualifications in English, maths, the sciences, history, psychology, sports science, drama, art, and many other subjects. Each year our partnership with Gordonstoun School, the world-famous independent school in Scotland, results in scholarships being awarded to Urswick students to study A-Levels at Gordonstoun, together with other study visits for Sixth Form Academy students. Our name change in September 2011 heralded a bright new future. We are proud of our history, and to maintain our links with the past we chose the name in tribute to Christopher Urswick who founded free education in Hackney in 1520. Urswick’s vision, which we remain dedicated to nearly 500 years later, is to provide the best possible education for local children of all backgrounds, abilities, and beliefs. If you are looking to educate your child in a caring environment focused on achievement, then come to The Urswick School. We are the smallest mixed secondary school in Hackney and surrounding boroughs. We are friendly and welcoming, offering excellent care, guidance, and support, along with high standards of behavior and academic achievement.

  12. Since its founding in September 1992 by His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj, The Swaminarayan School has continued to deliver a very high standard of education. With an extraordinary array of subjects and activities tailored to meet pupils’ interests and abilities, we are always striving to improve our pupils’ learning experiences. Our strong family ethos ensures that our broad curriculum approach provides our pupils with a supportive environment in which to learn. We especially emphasize inculcating in the children such core values as respect, honesty, teamwork, humility, and friendliness. Our pupils' horizons are widened by providing opportunities to travel out of school for residential trips, day trips, and sporting fixtures. The school provides opportunities to instill confidence through lessons and activities such as LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) and public speaking. Students are also afforded chances to partake in a wide range of lunchtime and after-school clubs. The Prep School has received many accolades, such as the NACE Challenge Award for Provision for More Able, Gifted and Talented (MAGT) pupils, the Primary Science Quality Mark Award, the Thinking Schools Award, and we have also gained Healthy School and Eco-School status. This prospectus encapsulates some of the many activities and initiatives in which children participate. The Hindu ethos and values permeate daily life at our school, and the children experience joy, learning, challenges, and satisfaction each day. Academically, the Prep School pupils excel in many subjects. We firmly believe in the philosophy of holistic education, which leads to the development of a child who is equipped with life-long learning skills. At the Swaminarayan Prep School, we have 5 core values that we promote during school life both in and out of the classroom, and that our children demonstrate in all aspects of school life. Respect Humility Honest Friendliness Teamwork The Swaminarayan School seeks to support its pupils by offering an engaging, diverse, and balanced curriculum that caters to the pupils’ ages, abilities, and aptitudes. As part of the Independent Schools Association, The Swaminarayan School values its ability to develop a curriculum, educational best practices, and the National curriculum to inform its decisions. Our curriculum includes numerous extra-curricular activities to enrich the children’s experience as well as the ‘hidden curriculum’ – what the children learn from the way they are treated and expected to behave. Our curriculum is all the planned activities, which we arrange, to promote learning and that enable personal growth and development. We want children to grow into imaginative, independent, responsible people who can work and co-operate with others, while at the same time developing their knowledge and skills to become lifelong learners. Our school curriculum is underpinned by the values that we hold dear at our school. The curriculum is how the school achieves its objective of educating children in the knowledge, skills, and understanding that they need to lead fulfilling lives. The Swaminarayan School, as an independent school, has chosen to offer a curriculum based upon aspects of the National Curriculum best suited to us while also allowing pupils to develop their religious, cultural, spiritual, and moral potential. OUR VALUES: These are the main values of our school, upon which we have based our curriculum. We value how all children are unique, and our curriculum promotes respect for the views of each child, as well as for people of all cultures. We value the spiritual and moral development of each person, as well as their intellectual and physical growth. We value the importance of each person in our community. We organize our curriculum so that we promote cooperation and understanding between all members of our community. We value our environment, and we aim, through our curriculum, to teach respect for our world, and how we should care for it for future generations, as well as our own. The overall aims of our school are: To promote our Hindu culture, values, and way of life. To enable pupils to become “lifelong learners” who are lively, imaginative, enquiring, confident, independent, and display self-esteem and self-discipline. To continue to raise our academic standards by having high expectations of teaching and learning. To allow our pupils to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, performing arts and cultural experiences so that they become good citizens of the country. To send well-adjusted and well-rounded young people to higher education. To instill a sense of concern, awe, and wonder about the world within our pupils and establish strong links with the parents, Mandir, and the wider community. The objectives of our school curriculum are: To enable all children to learn and develop their skills to the best of their ability To promote a positive attitude towards learning, so that children enjoy coming to school, and acquire a solid basis for lifelong learning To teach children the basic skills of literacy, numeracy, and information technology (IT) To ensure that each pupil will have the opportunity to learn To read fluently, with understanding, feeling, discrimination, and enjoyment a variety of materials written in different ways for different purposes To help children understand Britain’s cultural heritage To enable children to be positive and responsible citizens To deliver a curriculum based on the relevant aspects of the National Curriculum but with adaptations where we deem it necessary and including our cultural subjects To teach children to have an awareness of their spiritual development, and to understand right from wrong To help children understand the importance of truth and fairness so that they grow up committed to equal opportunities for all To enable children to have respect for themselves and high self-esteem, and to be able to live and work cooperatively with others View full school
  13. 14. The St Michael Steiner School was founded in 2001 by teachers who have many years of experience of living and working in London. Our guiding vision was, and remains, a modern, urban Steiner school that addresses the needs of children who are growing up in this city. We want our children to feel part of the community, not that they are living in a sheltered oasis. The cosmopolitan nature of life in London brings the children into daily contact with people from many different backgrounds so that the need for interest in and understanding for others is not just taught but experienced. By nurturing in the children a deep respect for all human beings and an enthusiastic and active interest in the world, we aim to help them orientate themselves towards whatever comes to meet them in life, while they are growing and when they are adults. Our school is a mainstream Steiner Waldorf school, distinct from Rudolf Steiner Special schools. We recognize that all children have individual needs and admit children with ‘Special Educational Needs’ wherever possible, given the nature of the building we occupy, the make-up of the group that the particular child would enter, and the availability of additional classroom support if needed. Children with SEN are fully integrated into their classes and we watch their development carefully and try to give them all the support they need to develop and balance the abilities they have brought into the world. Parents of children with SEN must understand that we will work with their children in a way that is significantly different from that used in other schools and that they can support us. We believe that the child is aware of the trust and confidence that parents have (or don’t have) in their teachers. In regular meetings with parents, we listen to concerns and try to find the best ways to help the children. All discussions at these meetings are confidential and records are kept. There are important aspects of Steiner Waldorf education that have a positive effect on all children but which are indispensable for children with SEN. In addition to the benefits of the Class Teacher system and Main Lesson blocks described earlier, teaching through stories, descriptive language and mental images involve the child’s imagination and feeling of life. The child becomes immersed in what he is learning, subjects are related to one another and are understood more deeply. This in turn means that he can remember what he has learned because the world he is learning about is not composed of many isolated bits of information that have to be remembered individually, but is experienced as a cohesive whole of which he is part. We do not use textbooks in the Lower or Middle School in the High School the students have access to textbooks for research, but teachers still present their lessons verbally. This means that children who cannot read can access their lessons and can join in with discussions and ask questions. Recitation of poetry and prose is a daily part of the curriculum. The children learn poems and speeches by heart. Clear enunciation and voice quality are stressed and we use tongue twisters and other vocal exercises. This helps with vocabulary, grammar but also with spelling as, if words are spoken clearly, it is easier to hear how they are constructed. Skills such as drawing, painting, and craftwork are valued as highly as academic ones and are part of every subject. This gives every child an opportunity to shine and builds confidence and self-esteem. In Steiner Waldorf schools we work with Child Study, a concentrated study of one child at a time, undertaken by all the teachers in the school. During this time, the teachers observe the chosen child, meet together to discuss what they have noticed, consult parents, look at the child’s work and study his/her background and early life. Every child in the school is studied in turn. This means that all the teachers know all the children well and are more able to notice when a child needs support. We offer differentiated learning opportunities to help each child to develop at his/her pace e.g.taking into account learning English as a second or third language (seen as an obvious advantage, rather than necessarily a learning difficulty), and also those who may have particular learning difficulties. It is not assumed that all children will progress at the same rate or reach the same level, but that all will progress. View full school

  16. Our two beautiful school buildings nestle in the heart of Wimbledon Common and Village. The breadth of academic achievement, the wealth of creative opportunities, and most of all our happy stimulated girls to define The Study as one of the leading prep schools for girls in South West London. We pride ourselves on our reputation for academic and creative excellence and for nurturing well-rounded, confident, caring girls with a love of learning, a broad outlook, good manners, and a real zest for life. Our girls go on to leading senior schools, and 2018 has been another record year for our Year 6 group, with no less than 39 scholarships offered by top senior schools. The school is celebrating its 125 Anniversary this year, and we are holding a special event for our Alumnae on June 16, 2018. The Study fosters academic and creative achievement while nurturing well-rounded, confident, caring girls with a love of learning, a broad outlook, good manners, and a real zest for life. In Reception, teaching is based on the Foundation Stage Curriculum. In the rest of the school, our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum but is not limited by it, and there is increasing emphasis on preparing for senior school 11+ examinations as girls move through the school. Girls are given a strong foundation in the core subjects of English, Mathematics, and Science, but also enjoy a broad range of other subjects including Humanities, French, Spanish (Year 6), Art, ICT, DT, Music, Ballet, Drama and PE. There is specialist teaching in many subjects throughout the school. Girls also have the opportunity to develop their social education through our PSHE program. The curriculum at The Study is designed to be balanced, creative, and rigorous through it, we aim to challenge and stretch our pupils and to enable them to develop their abilities and interests. The Board of Governors is responsible for the overall conduct and strategic direction of the school rather than its day-to-day operation. Collectively, the Board is responsible for shaping policy and identifying strategic objectives ensuring compliance with statutory obligations taking stock of the school’s development plan, and protecting the school’s assets. More specifically, the Board appoints the Head and the Bursar and advises on the appointment of the senior management team it also monitors the effectiveness of the management structure and takes an informed view on the School’s educational performance and the interests and welfare of the whole school community. The Board of Governors has a particular duty to review the school’s short and long-term financial position and approves major investments, budgets, and salaries. The current Board, which meets termly, comprises the Chairman and a team of six others, ensuring a balance of experience and sector expertise. The Values-based Education initiative forms part of The Study's School Improvement Plan and we will use the program to further enrich our positive climate for teaching and learning, alongside our existing personal and social education program. It creates a strong learning environment that enhances academic achievement and develops the girls' social and relationship skills that last throughout their lives. Each month, we look at one value and there will be a range of opportunities, both in some lessons and in assemblies, to reflect on the value in question. An important part of the success of the program is ensuring that we keep you fully informed about the values focused on in school so that you can encourage your daughter to share what she has been learning in school and hopefully show the same value at home. The Study ensures that every day is filled with fun and learning for our girls. They enjoy a variety of academic subjects, interspersed with creative activities, breaks, and lunchtime and after-school clubs. The Study is a mutually supportive community, which includes the girls, their parents, and all the staff, teaching and non-teaching. Above all else, The Study has an atmosphere of warmth, openness, and happiness where the girls feel secure, well looked after, and highly valued. The individual care and development of every girl is the mission of The Study. We ensure, through excellent teaching, a kind and nurturing environment, and the encouragement of individual talents and interests, that every girl feels valued and a special part of the whole. The importance of kindness, friendship, and respect for others is developed through example and actions, where bad manners and hurtful behavior towards others are not tolerated. The form teacher plays a key role in ensuring the general well-being and happiness of each girl in her care, in all aspects of school life. However, all staff plays their part and the girls know they can turn to any teacher if they have a problem or are unhappy. The girls are also encouraged to look out for each other too. Assemblies are an important part of the school day, providing an opportunity for the girls and staff to gather together as a community. They usually comprise a hymn, a story or discussion point, and a prayer. As well as the important role they play in developing the girls’ social, moral, and cultural awareness, they also provide an important opportunity to celebrate achievement and effort, in work and behavior. One of the key strengths of The Study is to recognize and nurture individual talent and hard work. The success of this individual approach to education can be seen by the many scholarships offers given to The Study girls by the leading senior schools. Over the last five academic years, The Study’s Year 6 groups have received 135 scholarship offers at 11+ an impressive number for any preparatory school. 2016 and 2017 were particularly strong years with 25 and 35 scholarships offered respectively. 2018 has been another record-breaking year for the school, with more offers of senior school places than ever before as well as a hugely impressive 39 scholarships offered across academics, music, sport, and drama. Some students apply their skills directly in the gaming, animation, digital marketing, and computer technology sectors, others will work for businesses and other organizations that use digital media to develop products and services and connect with clients, consumers, patients, and citizens. Our students are creators, rather than consumers, of technology and this empowers them to generate opportunities for themselves within this emerging sector. They are the future digital leaders who will use their expertise to improve the lives of others through the application of digital technology. Our Industry partners have worked to define exactly what attributes, skills, and experiences are required of their future workforce. The Studio offers a curriculum and ethos where students can develop the required additional skills to fill these requirements. We have established three pathways – Coding, Creative, and Entrepreneurship. The pathways reflect the three skills areas in the sector. Students work in project teams to ensure that they have a broad-based of knowledge and experiences. Students at The Studio are not limiting their options by choosing a specialist pathway. Studio Schools are a new type of state school for 14 to 19-year-olds of all abilities. They seek to close the gap between what young people need to succeed in life and the skills and knowledge that the current education system provides. A day at The Studio is purposefully longer than an average school day but includes time for enrichment activities and homework so there is still time for family life. Our school is an encouraging environment where students can develop the necessary qualities to prepare themselves to become the digital entrepreneurs of the future. View full school

The school is committed to the five outcomes of the ‘Every Child Matters’ document: To be healthy To stay safe To enjoy and achieve To make a positive contribution To achieve economic wellbeing These outcomes are interwoven into our explicit and implicit curriculum. How these outcomes are met is discussed at the staff and governor level. The school was awarded the London Healthy Schools Bronze Award in July 2014. In addition to the British Values of Democracy, Individual Liberty, The Rule of Law, Mutual Respect & Tolerance. we have put in place a monthly cycle which covers a wide range of values and qualities that we believe our pupils will need to demonstrate and possess to participate fully in our society. Each month a display is created to celebrate and educate about the value or quality and this is led, on rotation, by different year groups. Literacy is a means of communication, be it verbal, written, or read. Literacy connects all areas of learning and therefore needs to be taught and modeled from an early age. Scaffolding needs to be given explicitly to enable children to develop the skills, knowledge, and understanding to communicate effectively in a variety of experiences, both now and the future. The Stonebridge School endeavors to help children enjoy and appreciate literacy and its rich variety. At Stonebridge School, we aim to enhance the pupil’s confidence and competence in understanding the world in which they live. We aim to stimulate a child’s curiosity in finding out why things happen in the way they do and to nurture positive attitudes toward science, through teaching scientific methods of inquiry and investigations. We aim to develop the ability to ask scientific questions and begin to formulate the pupils' ideas and explanations. View full school
  21. At Stonebridge School, we offer an integrated, exciting, and relevant curriculum which is enriched with a variety of experiences. We have high expectations and put children at the heart of everything we do and every decision we make. Through careful analysis, evaluation, and review we ensure that all children make significant progress, are safe, and reach their full potential. We value the contribution of all stakeholders, believing that collaboration and consistency are key and our commitment to training and development for the whole school community ensures that the service we offer will always advance. Through the balance of academic and value-led education, which reflects our motto "learning for life" we will ensure our pupils are rounded and confident individuals who are equipped for their next educational journey and their place in the world. Walking into our school, you will be struck by our collegiate sense of purpose - to improve the life chances of all the children who walk through our doors. You will be met with a calm and purposeful atmosphere, focused and confident pupils, diligent and committed members of staff. Every effort will be made to improve standards through high-quality teaching, value-led education, and a vibrant and innovative curriculum - only the best will do. Our curriculum will be well resourced and ensure that pupils leave with a high level of literacy and numeracy skills. A variety of enrichment opportunities and experiences will be offered across the school which will inspire and develop our pupils’ knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm. Our school will be a place that encourages the ability to skilfully listen to others, it will be a thoughtful place as well as thought-provoking. There will be a deep sense of justice and equality we will celebrate the great depth of diversity, as well as those things we have in common as a school community, ensuring everyone has a voice that will be listened to. A school community will be developed that ensures our core values permeate the curriculum and are reflected in our interactions and actions. All children will feel safe and secure and will be responded to as unique individuals. Children's learning will be empowered through our core principles and a range of targeted support techniques and strategies. Our school will be a place where dreams are realized and aspirations nurtured. It will be a place that unlocks doors of opportunities and guides children at the start of their lives to become competent and confident citizens of the United Kingdom and the world. The school was awarded the London Healthy Schools Bronze Award in July 2014. 22. Our school and its community are a family that incorporates the home, school, and Parish and we are fortunate to have very supportive parents, Governors, and Priests who work together to give every child a happy and rewarding primary school experience. All children are taught the National Curriculum core subjects - English, Maths, Science, and ICT. We follow the new ‘Come and See’ scheme for Religious Education. For several years now we have been involved in Barking and Dagenham’s ‘Improving Primary Maths’ initiative. We are also fully involved in the Borough Literacy Project. In addition, History, Geography, Art, Music, Technology, Modern Foreign Languages, and Physical Education are taught. The Borough has a team of instrumental teachers allocated to schools. Each year there is a range of music lessons and opportunities provided during the school day. The Foundation Stage Curriculum in the Nursery is explained to parents during the Nursery Open Day and at the home visit and the Foundation Stage Curriculum in the Reception Class is explained to parents during the meeting for Reception parents held each July. Each term the teachers provide parents with a ‘Termly Curriculum Letter’ which details the topics and themes for the coming term in each subject area. All learning is about God and the curriculum is underpinned by that fundamental belief. We aim to provide our pupils with a broad and balanced learning experience while focusing on key learning skills that will help to ensure the children are equipped to become effective, lifelong learners. Our RE program is based upon the core resources recommended by the Diocese and the main aims are to extend each child’s knowledge about Catholicism while encouraging the skills of discussion, debate, and reflection. We recognize that parents are the first and most important teachers of their children, particularly in the handing on of the faith. We also use the Diocesan recommended materials entitled ‘A Journey In Love’ the teaching of Education in Personal Relationships (EPR). The school aims to stimulate and improve upon the children's confidence and enjoyment in mathematics, whilst encouraging them to develop the language and ability to express ideas fluently and assimilate new mathematical concepts with confidence. Mathematics is an area of the curriculum that children should gain a wide experience of and enjoy throughout their school life and beyond. The teaching of numeracy, including mental calculation skills, is given high priority, with an emphasis on children applying mathematical procedures to solve number problems. We hope that the children will come into contact with a variety of methods, investigations, and problems covering a wide range of topics, enabling them to acquire the basic skills, concepts, and knowledge necessary for them to develop a keen and interested attitude. Maths is an area of learning that the children use across so many areas of our curriculum, such as science, design and technology, and geography. All classes follow the Collins 'Busy Ants' maths scheme, which teaches all elements of the new national curriculum maths. We aim to equip each child with the skills necessary to progress through the stages of reading to become competent, confident, independent readers with love and respect for literature. Our reading books are organized into bands of reading difficulty with our main reading scheme being the 'Oxford Reading Tree' and we have a well-stocked and maintained school library. We have strong links with our local library too and encourage children and parents to make use of this valuable resource. We support reading through a very specific approach to guided reading in class (Reciprocal Reading) and we also provide Reading Recovery support in Year 1 for many children. In Year 3 during 2014-2015 we are introducing a focussed reading intervention entitled ‘Project X’ which will support a range of emerging readers but has been shown to have a significantly positive effect on the reading attainment of boys. The IPC has over 90 different thematic units of learning all child-friendly, modern-day topics appealing to all ages of primary children themes include Time Detectives, Airports, I’m Alive, Inventions and Machines, and Global Swap shop. Each IPC unit incorporates a range of subjects including Science, History, Geography, ICT, Art, and PE, and provides many opportunities to link literacy and numeracy. Each subject then has several learning tasks to help teachers to help children achieve a range of IPC learning goals. The Pupil Premium (PP) was introduced in April 2011 to support children from low-income families who were eligible for free school meals (FSM), Children in Care, and those from families with parents in the Armed Forces. In 2012-13 the Government extended the eligibility for the Pupil Premium to include pupils who had been receiving free school meals since January 2011 (Ever6 rule). This was extended again in 2015 to include children who are recently adopted. Nationally, the statistics show that pupils in the above groups often do less well than their peers at school. This money aims to try to close the attainment gap between pupils and to try and remove any barriers to learning that pupils may face. At The St Teresa Catholic Primary School, the Pupil Premium has been making a significant difference to our disadvantaged pupils. We ensure that the additional funding reaches the children who need it most and that it makes a significant impact on their education and lives. View full school
