At Harris Primary Academy Beckenham Green, we believe that consistency and confidence are key to success. As a small academy, with a single form in each year group, we aim to give our pupils a balanced, exciting, and truly enjoyable education that prepares them for success in secondary school and beyond. Located in the heart of Beckenham, we are part of the Harris Federation which runs five other successful primary academies in Bromley and more than 40 academies in total in and around London. We benefit from being part of this thriving community of schools.
We are very proud of our children at Harris Primary Academy Beckenham Green, who work hard and behave well. They are rewarded for achievement and effort and we always encourage them to reach for their ‘personal best’, academically and in the way they relate to others. The aim of all our teachers, support staff, and leaders is to give every pupil an education they enjoy and which prepares them for academic success and confident, happy lives.
Our academy is a member of the Harris Federation, a group of 44 primary and secondary academies in and around London educating some 30,000 young people. The Harris Federation Teaching School Alliance enables us not only to train and develop teachers and leaders in our academies but also to do so for other schools. Each academy is led and run by its Principal and other senior leaders: we are deliberately a federation rather than a chain. What unites us is a culture that ensures the children and teenagers in our schools get an excellent education within a happy, caring, and supportive environment.
As a result of this, all Harris academies so far to have been inspected by Ofsted have been rated either ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ with the vast majority being Outstanding. Many of these academies replaced schools previously considered to have been failing.
The Harris Federation has been recognized as a top performer by education researchers at the Department for Education, Sutton Trust, and Education Policy Institute as well as Watchsted and PwC. We are a not-for-profit charity created by Lord Harris of Peckham. He and his family take an active interest in every Harris academy, supporting us financially and with their time. We want children to retain their individuality and creativity and be treated the right way.
With a single form in each year group, children at our academy settle quickly and get to know each other and our staff well.
We step in quickly if a change is needed. For some children, this might involve one-to-one support if they are finding something difficult and for others, it could mean stretching them more to keep them interested. As an academy parent, you are welcome to discuss your son or daughter with us at any time. We send progress reports home every term with a full written report at the end of the academic year.
We welcome children of all abilities and want them to enjoy school and thrive. For children with Special Educational Needs, one of our first steps is to work with their parents and other specialists to create a plan for supporting them. Our approach as a whole is reviewed with children’s classroom teachers, relevant specialists, and parents every half term. Our aim is that all of our children are well prepared to begin the second phase of their education.
With each day, week, term, and year being so significant in a child’s life, consistency is particularly important in their primary education. As part of the Harris Federation, which has its training school for teachers, our staff receives outstanding professional development to make sure that standards are consistently high in every classroom. We work closely with other Harris academies in Bromley to share best practices and welcome the opportunities and additional capacity that gives us as a small school.
