    The mission of the University of Mount Union is to prepare students for fulfilling lives, meaningful work, and responsible citizenship.
    Mount Union was founded in 1846 by Orville Nelson Hartshorn as a place where men and women could be educated with equal opportunity. Science would parallel the humanities, and there would be no distinction due to race, color, or gender.
    Mount Union is proud of its religious heritage and its background in the Methodist Church. For more than a century Mount Union has been officially connected with the Methodist Church. It is now affiliated with the East Ohio, West Ohio, and Western Pennsylvania Conferences of the United Methodist Church.

    The faculty at the University holds primary responsibility for all curricular matters at the University, including the course requirements, pedagogy, curricular assessment, research standards, degree requirements, and admission standards for students. The faculty work with external accreditation or licensure standards to ensure the quality of the academic programs.

    The Honors Program at the University of Mount Union offers integrated learning opportunities and challenges for motivated students with exceptional academic potential. Professionals in Mount Union's Honors Program are innovative teachers and dedicated scholars from various disciplines. The University Honors curriculum parallels the Integrative Core with specially designed honors sections and exciting co-curricular opportunities. Honors courses emphasize intellectual contexts, student autonomy, and connections among fields of study. The Honors Program is a learning community for students that provides academic and social Support to engage in a different kind of learning, encouraging open inquiry, empathetic engagement with diverse perspectives, and space for intellectual risk-taking.

    Academic Support offers a variety of services to assist day and evening students in managing their coursework successfully. Individual academic counseling and study strategies matched to learning styles can help students handle difficult classes. Additionally, this service coordinates a Week 4 Progress Report each semester for at-risk students and oversees many outreach efforts to contact struggling students throughout the academic year. All reports are reviewed by the Director, who will attempt to contact struggling students based on the responses provided by faculty members. Peer tutors who are hired and trained by the office also facilitate study groups for many courses.
