Never before in the history of medicine have such a multitude of scientific, technological, and demographic factors converged to revolutionize the whole approach to human health. Big data, combined with stem cell-based discoveries and the "omics" revolution, are spawning the era of "precision medicine." Meanwhile, population health-based approaches and programs designed to empower patients in their healthcare are finally delivering on the promise of preventive medicine. In essence, this is an extraordinary time for the study of medicine.
These advancements also bring challenging new demands for today's physicians. Not only must they be skilled in the art of healing, but now they must also be impassioned pioneers in translational research as well as inspired innovators in the advancement of patient-centered healthcare systems.
Weill Cornell Medicine: Qatar's (WCM-Q) mission is to prepare its students to excel in each of these areas. All our efforts are focused on delivering a world-class education, strongly enhanced by hands-on research experience in our laboratories and clinical training within prestigious institutions in Qatar and the US.
Our exceptional and diverse faculty are united in their commitment to the dissemination of knowledge. Their delivery of a challenging and exciting US curriculum is supported by technology that enables our students in Qatar to interact with their peers and other world-class faculty at Weill Cornell New York.
Our internationally renowned researchers are driven to discover. Embracing a comprehensive 'bench to bedside to community' philosophy, our biomedical research program spans basic, translational, clinical, and public health arenas. Groundbreaking discoveries made in WCM-Q's state-of-the-art research laboratories advance the understanding and treatment of devastating diseases such as cardiovascular disorders, cancer, and diabetes. Collaborative links with research centers of excellence worldwide provide our students with the opportunity to shape biomedical science progress beyond Qatar's borders.
Our affiliation with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in Qatar affords our students a unique clinical learning experience. HMC is the nation's foremost healthcare provider, treating Qatari citizens and expatriates from all around the world.
