The HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht is an ambitious university in dynamic surroundings. As a university of applied sciences, we provide education and conduct research. We train – future – highly in demand in the labor market and are inextricably tied to the Utrecht region. The link between education, research, and the professional world enhances our regional impact. HU is a knowledge organization. Through high-quality education and research, we work on the innovation and professionalization of professional practices and talents' personal development. We thus contribute to the social, cultural, and economic development of an open, just, and sustainable society.
HU trains motivated students – from the age of 17 up to 67. In other words, we concentrate on newcomers to the labor market, and those who (extended) have a job and wish to update, broaden, or deepen their knowledge and skills. After all, society needs professionals who continually renew their education and keep up to speed. We have a wide range of study programs and courses covering almost all the (professional) fields and are among the largest providers of post-initial education and master's degree programs. Many of our programs sprouted from those professional fields' demands, which still are the point of departure for all our work. Together with professionals in the field – and with the findings from our practice-oriented research [link to University of Applied Sciences] – we safeguard our education's high quality, contribute to the Human Capital Agenda of various industries, and help to innovate professional practices.
Due to our open communication – both internally and externally – HU is a transparent organization. HU's management philosophy is based on teamwork. The point of departure in all our collaborations is that we share our knowledge and act as promised. This means that we consistently recognize, use, share, and enhance each other's different competencies and expertise – so that we can yield the greatest return together.
HU wants to be visibly valuable to its surrounding area. We collaborate intensively with major and small businesses, (knowledge) institutions, partners in the educational chain, and governmental authorities. Co-creation and co-production are the keywords. Our students are put wise to the professional world by, for instance, internships and graduation assignments. In their turn, the staff members from these businesses and institutions provide guest lectures.
HU likes its knowledge and technology to be of social and economic value to its surroundings and the university itself. That is why our university is a leading participant in the Utrecht Valorisation Centre (UtrechtVC), a collaborative partnership of HU, Utrecht University, the Utrecht University Medical Centre, and Rabobank.
HU is located in both Utrecht and Amersfoort. The Utrecht activities are slowly but surely concentrating in the Utrecht Science Park. Some of our critical strategic partners like Utrecht University, its medical center, and Nutricia Research are located education, research, and knowledge-intensive corporations that reinforce one another by their mutual proximity.
