Copenhagen Business School (CBS) was established in 1917. Today, with 20,000 students and 1,500 employees, CBS is one of the largest business schools in Europe and one of the 8 Danish universities
CBS is headed by the President, who is responsible to the CBS Board of Directors. The Board is responsible to the Minister for Science, Innovation and Higher Education. Besides the President, there are two deans and a university director. As senior management, they are responsible for the day-to-day management of CBS.
The day-to-day management is carried out by the President within a framework laid down by the Board. The other management carries out their duties as authorized by the President.
CBS's core activities (education and research) are organized under two deans, a Dean of Research and a Dean of Education. The Dean of Education is responsible for all programs bachelor and master programs, MBA and diploma programs. The study boards and the program directors are responsible to the Dean of Education.
The Dean of Research has the strategical and organizational responsibility of CBS' research and research staff.
The University Director has the overall responsibility of CBS's finances and the managerial responsibility of all cross-functional administrative units, the CBS Library, and the CBS Campus.
This business school has one faculty, and the research is organized in departments. The departments are administered by the head of the department who is responsible to the President. The programs are not organized in the departments. However, the departments deliver teaching to CBS' programs within their area of expertise.
The President has appointed a Vice President for International Affairs, who provides consultancy to the President on international matters and represents CBS in international relations.
CBS has an Academic Council, who make statements to the President (as advisors) and take part in ensuring the quality and the legitimacy of academic decisions. The council also contributes to the communication between management, staff, and students. Several administrative functions support our core activities at different levels.
Shared Central Services carry out the cross-functional and coordinating tasks for the university and provide services to students, staff, the business sector, etc. The University Director heads the Shared Central Services.
The Programme Administration handles the administration and the organizational development of the programs and services programs and students. The Dean of Education heads the Programmes Administration.
CBS is an international business university. We must educate both young and experienced people for the business world and society by providing them with a sound basis of knowledge and insights from the latest international research for value creation and sustainable development.

CBS is Denmark's largest educational and research institution within business administration and economics in a broad sense. The university is committed to providing business-related education programs and continuing education for the public and, in particular, the private sector.
Programs are based on a reliable and internationally renowned research base, which CBS works consistently to strengthen. CBS has a Center of Excellence, funded by the Danish National Research Foundation, and has received five European Research Council Grants.
CBS is committed to communicating knowledge and new ideas to tomorrow's business leaders and society in general. Its main contribution in this field is research and research-based education, and investment in research and high academic standards is crucial to CBS's contribution to society.
Being a government-financed private institution, CBS receives most of its funding from the government. Government grants to the university sector mainly consist of an activity-based educational grant and a basic research grant that is, in essence, historically determined for each university. Slightly under two-thirds of CBS' income basis originates from educational activities.
