Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, since its foundation in 1995, CUAS has made history. Back then, we started with two programs and about 70 students. About the same number of UCAS graduates is impressive proof of the necessity and importance of this academic institution. Through ever-growing acceptance of the programs as well as the high demand for our graduates in industry, the programs will be further developed in the coming years.
UCAS has developed into a unique educational institution in Carinthia. Through constant further development of the degree programs at CUAS and intensive cooperation with the worlds of business and science, those studying at the university can be certain of progressive education with its finger on the pulse of time. UCAS lives the vision of direct practical experience. Full- and part-time lecturers, as well as guest speakers from industry and business, ensure an interdisciplinary, internationally oriented education. Degree programs are offered in the fields of civil engineering and architecture, engineering, as well as management, healthcare, and social issues.
The quality of education is emphasized by the development of innovative teaching and learning methods, such as blended learning, which offers students and professors greater flexibility in creating a suitable learning environment. Furthermore, the CUAS library offers educational support through the state of the art facilities.
The work council represents the interface between the staff and faculty (employees) and the management (employer). The current work council team harmonizes well with one another, complements each other well, and is committed to act upon the concerns of all colleagues positively.
An elected work council can – supported by the solidarity of the staff and faculty – forcefully and consequently address and represent the concerns of its colleagues. In addition to its core function of representing the workforce vis-à-vis the management of the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, the work council looks for opportunities as well as funding for a business, social, health, and cultural interests of the staff and faculty.
The Committee for Equality Issues deals with matters on this subject and the development of measures and initiatives for implementing our fundamental principle.
Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS) was established in 1995 in the legal form of society as the organizational body for university studies in Carinthia. The registered office of the society was in Spittal a der Drau. Since the beginning of 2002, Carinthia University of Applied Sciences gemeinnuetzige Privatstiftung (non-profit private foundation) has been the organizational and funding body for Carinthian university degree programs.
The financing of the non-profit private foundation takes place utilizing contributions from the federal government, the province of Carinthia, and the local municipalities. Also, the membership fees of the society, which has become one of the 15 founders, as well as donations and proceeds from events, contribute to financing the operation of the organization.
Applied science and development is one core activity of CUAS. On the one hand, this encompasses the successful completion of research activities in technology, management, health sciences & social work. On the other hand, research and development is a significant quality marker that plays a vital role in competition with other universities. The successful completion of Research & Development projects is one of the significant tasks of teaching and research staff.
Universities of Applied Sciences focus their work in particular on the area of applied research and development. Research activities enhance the quality of teaching to a high degree by making significant current and innovative content available for the education of students. However, research also functions as a profile-shaping measure for each university. Through developing specific expertise and appropriate infrastructure, universities may gain high recognition in society and equally can generate economic benefit. Resulting overall perception determines the “standing” of a university and thereby influences the stream of students and financial resources towards the university.
UCAS Internationa Relations Office supports all UCAS Schools and the institution as a whole in all international activities. Mainly in the development of international networks, exchange programs, and support for students who want to experience internationality abroad or at home. Additional to the International Relations Office, there is an international coordinator at each UCAS school dealing with all relevant international issues. The international coordinator, CUAS International Relations Office, as well as the rector, form an International Committee. In regular meetings, they discuss the future implementation of the international strategic aims.
