  2. We are a mixed, all-ability, and non-faith school. Our purpose is to educate all the children in our diverse local community. For us, stressing what we have in common is as important as celebrating our diversity. By learning together we come to understand and appreciate the different cultures and faiths that contribute to our rich and varied society. Stratford School Academy educates pupils from ages 11 to 16 and we believe the needs, aspirations, and safety of each child are very important. We aim to provide the very best learning experiences for the children of our local community so that they achieve their full potential and are well prepared for independence and adulthood. Stratford School Academy is an all-ability nonfaith school. We are situated in a part of London that is home to many faiths and cultures. For us stressing what we all have in common is as important as celebrating our diversity. We want all our pupils to become the authors of their own life stories not the subjects of them and we provide a curriculum that makes sure everyone can leave us with the qualifications they need to follow their chosen career route. As an Academy, we can maximize the control of our destiny, although in practice we share with our neighboring schools the common purpose of providing top-class education to the children of Newham. Some think that we are born with a fixed amount of ability and intelligence. We don’t – because science tells us otherwise. What we now know is that our brains are like muscles: with carefully planned lessons all pupils can become more intelligent, better learners, they can achieve surprising things and get better than expected results. Our job is to do our best to make sure this happens. School is an important step on the road to learning but it is not the only one. We must teach our pupils not just what they need to know now but also how to become independent learners who understand how to learn – people who, when they leave us, can travel the road to education by themselves. We provide a curriculum that makes sure everyone can leave us with the qualifications they need to follow their chosen career route. All pupils who want to can take the English Baccalaureate subjects. As well as teaching our pupils what they need to learn, it’s also important that we teach them how to learn. So we have developed a ‘two-dimensional’ approach to teaching. In lessons, we teach our pupils not only the content they need to know but also the skills and learning habits that will stay with them throughout their lives and which will stand them in good stead whatever they chose to do in the future. Doing homework is part of this equation so we set homework every day and we expect it to be done: there are school homework sessions available every day to provide support and guidance to pupils who feel they need it. We also run a wide range of extracurricular activities because taking part in physical, artistic, and community tasks is important in a well-rounded education. View full school
  3. Stratford Academy is the oldest independent, non-sectarian, college preparatory school in Middle Georgia. It opened its doors in September 1960 in the antebellum Overlook Mansion (now the Woodruff House) on Coleman Hill in historic downtown Macon. Now located on a beautiful, 107-acre campus on Peake Road, the school provides a challenging and supportive learning environment. Among the school's founding principles is intellectual independence — teaching young people how to think instead of what to think, where to look instead of what to see. Stratford Academy is an independent, non-sectarian, college-preparatory school for students in pre-kindergarten through grade twelve that challenges its students to achieve their full potential by providing a superior education for students with diverse backgrounds talents and developing responsible, ethical, life-long learners. Stratford Academy was founded in 1960 by a group of Macon parents who felt that the Middle Georgia area needed an independent college preparatory school. In September of 1960, the school opened its doors to 117 students and 17 faculty members in the antebellum Overlook Mansion on Coleman Hill in Macon's historic district. Thirteen students became Stratford's first alumni in 1962, and since that time, almost 3,800 young people have graduated from the school. The current facilities were built in 1974 on more than seventy acres of wooded land in northwest Bibb County. The school completed its move when the Lower School and Kindergarten came to the campus in 1978. The new buildings represent a contemporary contrast to Overlook Mansion and house the four school divisions: Preschool, Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School. Completed in August 2000, the 17,500 square foot Olson Library continues the tradition of excellence by providing a state-of-the-art facility that creates an ideal learning environment and provides the best educational experience for Stratford students. Stratford has recently added a dedicated Science Center, the new Cantrell Lower School, and the Daws Student Activities Center. Stratford is today a school community of 845 students and more than 140 faculty and staff. Stratford is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA), the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS), and the College Board. In 1982, Stratford earned accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Southern Association of Independent Schools. Stratford Academy is committed to providing opportunities for students to develop their abilities and skills within the context of a rigorous curriculum. Begun in 1998, the Learning Support Center is staffed by learning specialists, tutors, and part-time teachers who understand learning differences and offer individualized and small group instruction to students experiencing academic difficulty. The underlying goal of the Learning Support Center is to prepare students to become successful, independent, life-long learners. Stratford Academy's Counseling Department provides support services to students who may be experiencing any impediments to the process of learning. Interventions include but are not limited to short term counseling and guidance, crisis intervention, and referrals to appropriate community resources. Provided also are opportunities and support for strengthening social and emotional development to identify and reinforce individual student strengths. By implementing age-appropriate programs and educational opportunities, we work diligently to promote an inclusive and thorough climate.

    Stratford Hall

Stratford Hall was founded in the late 1990s by two Burnaby parents, Elaine Lee and Cindy Leung, who wanted a university preparatory option for their own children. The school opened in 2000 with only 40 students, Kindergarten to Grade 12. Since then, we have added about 40 new students each year, making our current enrollment is 530 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. In 2003, Stratford gained authorization for the IB Primary Years Programme the first school in Western Canada to do so. That same year, Stratford Hall was accepted into the Independent Schools Association of BC, and later into the Canadian Association of Independent Schools in 2005. In 2005, we achieved authorization for the IB Diploma Programme, ensuring that our first graduating class would be Diploma candidates. Four years later, Stratford attained full authorization for our Middle Years Programme. We are now one of five schools in the lower mainland, one of 12 in Canada, and one of 185 in the world to offer the IB Continuum Programme. Stratford Hall educates students to the highest global standards through the programs of the International Baccalaureate. Excellence and confidence are developed through a challenging academic curriculum with further emphasis on creativity, action, and service. We foster a strong pluralistic community built on integrity and respect. Stratford Hall strives to be a global leader in the International Baccalaureate community. Our students will gain a deep understanding of the world around them, and they will act on their connections to the outside community. They will excel to the best of their abilities, and graduates will be equipped to achieve their chosen goals. This is accomplished by acquiring and retaining the best teachers, and by a commitment to a balanced and enriched curriculum. The success of Stratford Hall is deeply rooted in the establishment of a supportive, knowledgeable, and committed community. At Stratford Hall, you will hear us speak about the school community on your first visit to the school (even if it is a virtual visit!). The word community is prominent in our vernacular as a result of the strong partnership that exists between our faculty and staff and our families. We are committed to ensuring that Stratford Hall students not only receive a great education but that their school experience will change their lives. It is this strong sense of community, attention to learning, and caring that draws people to Stratford Hall. Our holistic curriculum is designed to develop our students’ curiosity, character, and perspective — attributes that will serve them throughout their lifetime. Our team of teachers and support staff nurtures the development of thoughtful, knowledgeable, courageous young people, who are inspired to make a difference in their world.
