  1. George Stevens Academy is a town academy on the coast of Maine. Founded in 1852, we are the high school for nearly all students from the seven towns in our rural community. We also enroll private-pay day and boarding students from around the world. Our students' interests, talents, and aspirations reflect the diversity of the communities from which they come. GSA provides a comprehensive and challenging education for all students, for those who will build futures in surrounding communities and for those who will make lives elsewhere in the world. Our many academic and experiential programs foster a love of knowledge, inspire creativity, instill self-confidence, encourage good character, and prepare each graduate for a purposeful life in a changing world. George Stevens Academy is dedicated to providing a safe, equitable environment for all community members, free from discrimination and all forms of bullying and harassment. We strive to create programs and services that result in an environment that welcomes and celebrates every member of our community, provides opportunities for all to contribute, and provides for all civil rights. George Stevens Academy is an independent, comprehensive town academy in Blue Hill, a small coastal town on a scenic rural peninsula. Founded as Blue Hill Academy in 1803, it was the first secondary school to open its doors east of the Penobscot River in Down East Maine. The school serves as the 9-12 high school for more than 300 students mainly drawn from area towns but including up to 40 international and U.S. boarding students. The academy offers a wide variety of academic classes to meet our student body's diverse needs, aptitudes, and interests. Though college preparatory courses make up the vast majority of the approximately 150 offered, fundamental courses also are available, as are about three dozen honors and Advanced Placement courses. GSA provides numerous opportunities for students to explore their interests outside the traditional classroom, including the Eastern Maine Skippers Program, Outdoor Leadership, Independent Study and Internship, Culinary Arts, Alternative Course Contracts, Online Courses, Cooperative Education, and more. Extracurricular offerings include numerous clubs and activities, including the Drama Club and GSA Jazz Band, which has won state championships 19 times in the last 30 years. We have 29 teams in 12 sports. Our boys' and girls' athletics teams have won more than four dozen regional championships and 16 state championships in the school's history, with more than 70 percent of those won since 2000.
  2. Founded in 1870 by America's First Family of Inventors — who patented steam ferries and the modern form of railroad track, among many other inventions — technological innovation has remained the hallmark of Stevens' education and research programs ever since. Today, within the university's three schools and one college, 6,600 undergraduate and graduate students collaborate with faculty members in an interdisciplinary, student-centric, entrepreneurial environment. A range of academic and research programming spanning business, computing, engineering, the arts, and other fields actively advances science's frontiers. It leverages technology to confront our most pressing global challenges. Stevens' alumni network, more than 40,000 strong, also continues to make a national and global impact while contributing energy, ideas, and support to the university's continued growth and momentum. Stevens's education is different. Educated by a unique curriculum blending technical training, teamwork, design projects, internships, and cooperative education opportunities, Stevens graduates are consistently in high demand by industry leaders and agencies seeking highly prepared, solutions-oriented employees and team members. Stevens graduates also enjoy starting and mid-career salaries that outpace graduates of nearly all other U.S. higher educational institutions. Learn more about career services at Stevens. Today, students continue to volunteer considerable time to worthy local causes and answer the call during local emergencies. The university also offers a robust program of public events and lectures. And Stevens' very presence is responsible for creating and sustaining thousands of jobs in the region. Our mission is to inspire, nurture, and educate leaders in tomorrow's technology-centric environment while contributing to our time's most challenging problems. Stevens will become a premier student-centric technological research university, focusing on six "foundational pillars," areas of real societal need where Stevens possesses significant depth and expertise: artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cybersecurity data science and information systems complex systems and networks financial systems and technologies biomedical engineering, healthcare, and life sciences and resilience and sustainability. As our education and research capacity grows in these areas, so will our influence. As an innovation-driven university, we look for students motivated by ingenuity, inventiveness, and inspiration. Our students have a tremendous range of interests and a penchant for pursuing unique paths. They are engineers who are talented musicians, artists who are gifted programmers, financial whizzes who are literary buffs, and biologists with a record-breaking 50-free in the pool. They are open to opportunities that extend their reach. And that motivation results in the enormous career success that Stevens students are now famous for. Powerful classroom experience and research opportunities at the graduate level help students advance their careers and master today's most urgent business, engineering, and scientific challenges. Graduate education at Stevens offers the technical knowledge, leadership skills, and strategic vision to become a leader in the technology-driven global economy of the 21st century. However you define success, we will help you achieve it.
