  1. Selly Oak Trust School is a school for students who have a statement of special educational need and require support to help them access the curriculum and develop into confident young adults. We have the necessary resources and staff expertise to support our students in fulfilling their potential delivered by a strong team dedicated to providing exceptionally good access to education. On average our class sizes are between ten and fourteen. The majority of classes are benefiting from the support of one or more teaching assistants. Depending on need, some students receive targeted tuition in smaller groups and on an individual basis. Where appropriate, there are specific educational and behavior programs for individual students, designed to support the development of the whole young person and enable them to fulfill their potential. “An enjoyable learning community that celebrates equality and the uniqueness of everyone, where students aspire, thrive, and achieve the qualifications and skills for life that they need to become independent adults and lead a quality life.”To give every young person a challenging and appropriate curriculum that exploits their skills and talents at the same time as addressing their core academic and social learning needs. We will achieve this by: Having a flexible, imaginative, and creative curriculum that is tailored to the needs of our young people. Using the world outside the classroom to provide greater experiential learning opportunities. Consistently apply systems that develop the young person’s understanding of appropriate behavior. Rewarding and celebrating achievement and positive behaviors. Providing mentoring and other support required to enable the young person to access the curriculum. Having an active student voice that influences developments within the school. This can only be achieved by empowering our staff team to be creative, imaginative, and solution-focused. Our team will work collaboratively, have an open mind to new ideas and ways of working, and will work with all stakeholders for the benefit of our young people. Our curriculum meets the requirements of the National Curriculum for all our students. We provide regular assessments throughout the core subjects of English, Maths, Science, Physical Education, Skills for Life, Design Technology, and Information Technology to provide informed targets and ensure students are developing to their full potential. The Sixth Form at Selly Oak Trust School is intended to be a transitional stage, within a supportive environment, between the school context and adult life, including leisure, college, training, and the world of work. The Sixth Form aims to prepare young people to take advantage of the opportunities available to them beyond school through further development of their academic skills, personal skills, and work-related and enterprise skills. Considerable emphasis is placed on liaison with students, parents, and outside agencies. Where appropriate, students are expected to take on increasing degrees of personal responsibility and to develop and demonstrate appropriate organizational skills. The school offers a broad Post-16 curriculum, including a range of accredited subjects, and an extensive range of vocational qualifications.
  2. Selly Park Technology College is known for its high expectations, academic success, first-class education, and its’ innovative approach. Our vision and values underpin all we do. Indeed, everyone who knows us or visits our school speaks of our distinct ethos. At Selly Park Technology College pupils feel valued and parents are welcomed as partners in their daughter’s education. The most effective education is achieved when parents and teachers work together in a genuine partnership which results in all pupils being proud of their achievements and their school. By working together we ensure that all students enjoy their time at school, make excellent progress and leave us as confident learners with the necessary skills and attitudes to lead successful and fulfilling lives. Teaching and learning are at the heart of all we do. We believe that everyone has unique talents and is capable of leading and making contributions to our school, local community, and the wider world. Whilst we provide a broad and balanced curriculum that ensures progression in traditional subjects, we also offer many creative and more practical-based opportunities for our students and staff to explore our diverse world and the people who inhabit it. We recognize the individual contributions and successes of our students and staff as we encourage personal self-worth, leadership, and responsibility. Our positive, encouraging culture carries us on a wave of ambition and excitement. The school ethos is felt as you walk around and meet the staff and pupils everyone feels valued and knows the difference that they make to our school. We retain the benefits of a small school and therefore we can prioritize the individual needs of students. Nevertheless, we have high aspirations and expectations of all our pupils and we aim to help develop, not only academic success but also relationships that are characterized by kindness, tolerance, helpfulness, and respect. We are an 11 to 16 school with approximately 700 pupils. We pride ourselves on keeping pace with educational innovation while promoting the traditional values of self-respect, tolerance, and consideration for others. We retain all the benefits of a small school, with an emphasis on individualized learning, but provide a full, broad, and balanced curriculum. Our mission is to be a Centre of Learning for all members of our community. We recognize that we have achieved much we are not yet at the level we wish to be, but we are committed to continual improvement against our previous best. Our aims are to: Provide for the development of intellectual curiosity, creativity, self-confidence, and self-respect. Create an educational culture that is technological, scientific, vocational, and industrial. Provide for the acquisition of appropriate knowledge, skills, and sound judgment. Foster excellent relationships and discipline based on mutual respect and support for others. Foster the physical and mental well-being of the whole school community. We are proud of the multicultural nature of our school and have a proven track record for promoting community cohesion at local, national, and international levels. Our school exists to provide a stimulating and enriching education for all our pupils. Parents, pupils, and staff all have a vital role to play in creating a positive, happy, and mutually supportive environment in which every individual can develop her potential, both socially and academically. Throughout every student's time at the school, we appreciate that there will be occasions when she will require help and support. This often arises in different forms and we pride ourselves on the quality and range of individual support and guidance we offer. We acknowledge that some students may have Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) the majority of these needs are met through the differentiation that is accessed within the mainstream curriculum and the interventions we offer as part of our personalized curriculum. Occasionally some girls need additional help. The Learning Support Department works with pupils, parents, and external support agencies to ensure those with Additional Needs access the support, help, and guidance they need.
