We opened in 2012 with reception students and have grown by a year group each year. We now have two classes in Year groups Reception to Year 5. By growing slowly but steadily, we can give every one of our 300 children a great deal of personal attention. As well as focusing on helping our pupils become confident readers, writers and mathematicians, we will also be ensuring that, as our pupils progress through the school there is a range of music, drama, and sporting activities for them to choose from. We are proud to be part of a vibrant and supportive international community and are keen that parents and families play an active part in our school life. Our building is smart and modern, and we are fortunate enough to have a lovely playground and excellent equipment and facilities. Especially at such a young age, it is important children are taught and looked after in the right way for them. We want children to retain their individuality and be treated the right way. We step in quickly if a change is needed. For some children, this might involve one-to-one support if they are finding something difficult and for others, it could mean stretching them more to keep them interested. As an Academy parent, you would be welcome to discuss your son or daughter with us at any time. We also send reports home every term. We welcome children of all abilities and want them to enjoy school and thrive. For children with special needs, one of our first steps is to work with their parents and other specialists to create a plan for supporting them. Our approach as a whole is reviewed with children’s classroom teachers, relevant specialists, and parents every half term. As children progress through school, one of our aims will be to make sure we give them a ‘head start’ for the rest of their education. As well as engaging them in the excitement of the subject at hand, these experiences help prepare children for a successful transition to secondary school. In Reception, we follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. The curriculum consists of seven areas of learning: Personal, Social, and Emotional Development Physical Development Communication and Language Literacy Mathematics Understanding the World Expressive Arts and Design There are then 17 Early Learning Goals (ELGs) that are part of these areas of learning. If a child achieves these goals by the end of the Reception year then they are said to be working at the expected level. Early Year's learning and development are provided through purposeful play and adult-led structures and routines that build confidence and provide intellectual stimulus and challenge. Throughout the day, children have direct teaching sessions for maths, literacy, and phonics, either as the whole class or in small groups. Our vision at Harris Academy Peckham is to ensure every child achieves excellence in all aspects of academy life. We have high aspirations, both in terms of academic standards and personal development, to prepare your child for the demands of the 21st-century global workplace. We expect every child to excel and will provide the necessary challenge and support to make this happen. In line with all Harris Academies, we ensure that we prepare engaging and innovative learning experiences for our students, within a disciplined context where good manners, smart uniform, and mature conduct are expected from all. Our provision is from Year 7 to Year 13, with an expectation that all of our students remain with us for Sixth Form programs of study. The Academy offers a wide range of high-quality academic and vocational courses. Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) is delivered through a combination of discrete lessons, the Tutorial Programme, and a range of "drop-down days" that run during each year. The Key Stage 3 curriculum is followed by students in Years 7, 8, and 9. Following their admissions tests for the Academy, Year 7 students are placed in mixed ability tutor groups. However, students are then placed in the appropriate sets determined by these tests for the core subjects (English, Maths, and Science). The Key Stage 4 curriculum is followed by Years 10 and 11. The Academy offers a wide range of academic and vocational courses. All students are given options, advice, and guidance and then make their choices during the Spring term in Year 9. The Academy tries as far as possible to cater for all subject choices within the timetable, but if only a small number of students express preferences for a Key Stage 4 course it may not be possible to offer the course. Some subjects may also be oversubscribed, in which case students will be selected according to their aptitude and attitude to learning. At Harris Academy Peckham we offer a wide range of highly successful academic and vocational courses. These include A/AS Levels, CTech Level 3, and vocational City and Guilds qualifications. The range of courses on offer has been carefully selected to meet the needs of a wide range of students. Harris Academy Peckham Post 16 offers a broad curriculum. This allows us to accommodate the wide variety of courses students now wish to follow. Our Academy comprises a successful and vibrant Post 16 where students routinely achieve good grades and progress onto both higher education and successful careers. This reflects not only the range of courses on offer but also the high quality of teaching and excellent support systems available. Our teachers are very well qualified and they make use of tried and tested teaching techniques coupled with the latest technology, in first-class facilities. Our students are regularly encouraged to reflect upon their performance with their tutors and to set goals for themselves that will lead to future success. The majority of our students progress onto Higher Education. Student destinations include all types of universities and colleges across the United Kingdom and beyond. Harris Academy Peckham Post 16 aims to provide high-quality teaching and student support. Moving onto the teaching of students at Key stage 5 broadens our opportunities as an Academy to create a larger community of hard-working and dedicated young people that others within the Academy should aspire to join. We expect that the majority of the Post 16 students will go on to higher or further education. We aim to provide a broad and balanced education that will equip students with the abilities, confidence, and qualifications to take their place in the adult environment. Post 16 will be a place for many students to study locally but, more importantly, a place for students to experience the very best opportunities in all aspects of academic studies, develop a greater awareness of the world, and, of course, themselves.
