      1. At Ohana International School of Tokyo, we aim to teach the children in our care how to live in the community, embrace difference, and be honorable citizens in the global world. We all can achieve academically. Combining this with love, respect, honesty, and the ability to express one's thoughts openly and truthfully, we are certain that we have the right ingredients for the success of our children and their families. We are fully aware of the enormous responsibility that we have in providing the best possible care physically, emotionally, socially, and morally for the children and families who are in our care. We honor the fact that parents have chosen our school — out of all the international preschools in Tokyo — for their child’s early years of learning. When children graduate from Ohana International School in Tokyo we want them to leave as confident, independent individuals with good self-esteem. We want them to trust who they are and know that they have the potential to go forward in their lives and achieve whatever they aspire to be. We are proud of our goals, guidelines, and commitment to Early Childhood Education In the creation of Ohana International School in Tokyo’s curriculum, we have included the ideas and philosophies of many early childhood theorists as well as new up-to-date information about children, their potential, and their ability to learn. We have also taken into consideration the importance of both academics and the “emotionalization” and “socialization” of children in their early years. We believe that young children are active learners who construct their knowledge and understanding of the world, and that play is central to this. Environment and social interactions serve as scaffolds whereby children progress to higher levels of development, become self-motivated and develop the ability to make their own choices. Our commitment to the children in our Tokyo preschool is to provide materials and a learning environment together with exceptional, skilled, loving, and caring teachers who are qualified educators. The learning potential is far greater in a classroom where children are exposed to many cultures, levels of ability, and various age groups. We aim to nurture each child’s unique individuality and honor their differences. This is how we structure Ohana, our International Preschool in Tokyo, and a key part of why we are an inclusive school focused on spirit, compassion, and understanding. We aim to teach children how to live in a community, embrace difference, and be honorable citizens in a global world. At Ohana International, our Tokyo Preschool, each child is seen as an individual. Our teachers put a lot of thought into deciding which class best fits a child’s needs. Our three classes are grouped according to age with a curriculum specifically designed for each class. Watch each of the videos below to learn more about what goes on in each of our classes each day. A wide range of after-school enrichment programs are offered throughout the school year and are also open to non-Ohana International School students. After-school classes start from 2:30 onwards. Programs include Phonics and Literacy, Piano, Violin and Music Appreciation, Drama, Group Art, and others. Program offerings are subject to change depending on the term. The age-appropriate program in each classroom is designed by the teachers, who work closely together with the Directors to fulfill the philosophy and “live the soul” of our Tokyo preschool. Our curriculum encourages the child to become open-minded, well-balanced, principled, risk-taking, thinking, caring, knowledgeable, reflective, inquiring, curious, appreciative, empathic, independent, respectful, committed, enthusiastic, and tolerant. As an international preschool in Tokyo, we embrace many aspects of Japanese culture. Teachers speak English and Japanese, as well as other languages, proficiently. We celebrate special days from all over the world and have “respecting and embracing difference” at the core of our existence, and therefore support children through the language that is comfortable for them while facilitating mastery of English. Ohana International School offers a wide range of after-school enrichment programs throughout the school year and is also open to non-Ohana students. After-school classes start from 2:30 onwards. Programs include Phonics, ESL, Early Numeracy, Group Art, Foreign Languages, Music, Dance, and others. Program offerings are subject to change depending on the term. We encourage you to sign up as early as possible to ensure that your child has a place in his/her chosen activity. Children with special needs are welcome at our Tokyo preschool. We have experienced staff with relevant qualifications and work with a network of specialists when necessary!
