      1. Welcome to this small window into our very special school, the International School of Monza. Whilst the school has a thirty-year-long year history and has close ties with its sister schools around Italy, there a fresh and unique feel to everything we do. At Monza, a full International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum school authorized to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP), we endeavor to deliver the International Baccalaureate programs in the purest of forms, with the school’s core values and the IB’s Learner Profile embodied in everything that we do. Both the school and the group to which it belongs, have an established record of success in the IB, from age 3 all the way through to admission to the world’s leading universities at age 18. Perhaps most of note is the sense of collaboration that exists amongst all members of the school community. This is most evident in the way in which our highly qualified mother-tongue teachers and inquisitive students work towards a common goal of academic success which is seamlessly balanced with an inherent commitment to active global citizenship at every level. Although all classrooms are fitted with smart TVs and students bring tablets or laptops to school, we use technology in a blended approach where we feel it adds value to teaching and learning and not merely to replace traditional methods (yes, we do use books and, yes, we do talk to one another). We also prepare our Italian students to sit their Quinta Elementare and Terza Media examinations with us and, year on year, they achieve truly exceptional results. Furthermore, our culminating program, the IB Diploma, has legal equivalence to the Maturita’. All this takes place in our city-center campus – a stylish and colorful factory conversion – which has been specifically designed to foster collaborative approaches to teaching and learning. Our science laboratories are fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and we also boast carefully designed on-site spaces which support the delivery of our Reggio-Inspired Early Years Curriculum, three beautiful libraries, as well as studios for visual arts, drama, and music, supported by a large sports complex just a three minute walk away. That said, living in such a culturally rich part of the world, we take many opportunities to knock down our classroom walls and learn from opportunities in the local and not-so-local areas. In the heart of the city of Monza, the doors of the International School of Monza open every day to 260 students of around 30 nationalities. A perfect structure for collaborative inquiry-driven study, an environment that will help them to grow to become active citizens of “a world without frontiers”. As a fully authorized IB continuum world school, we endeavor to implement the IB programs exactly as they were intended, with education being driven by an inquiry-based and collaborative approach, giving our students a competitive advantage for their futures. An International Baccalaureate (IB) education provides opportunities to develop both disciplinary and interdisciplinary understanding that meet rigorous standards set by institutions of higher learning around the world. IB programs offer curriculum frameworks and courses that are broad and balanced, conceptual and connected. All IS Group schools have an excellent track record in using group dynamics, innovative teaching techniques, and tools that are updated continuously. 2. The Bilingual model of education and the program design we offer is based on scientific research and worldwide studies and an internationally recognized curriculum. Our approach to education does not limit itself to only creating knowledgeable learners but considers the needs of the whole child. We aim to develop internationally minded life-long learners who through their learning experiences will acquire critical and higher-order thinking skills, become effective communicators in two or more languages and develop a flexible mind and approach to life so that they can appreciate, adapt and perform efficiently within a variety of contexts and situations. Our school aims to provide a learning environment where pupils’ innate curiosity becomes the focus of learning we strive to transform this innate curiosity into a passion for learning, a passion which will instill itself both during the years of their school life and beyond. We are committed to providing an education that facilitates the development of every pupil’s strengths and potential. Research findings on the effects of Bilingual Education have shown that children who learn in a bilingual program will, in both linguistic and academic performance domains, outperform their monolingual counterparts, provided they have had uninterrupted attendance of a minimum of four to a maximum of seven years in the program. Our school offers this continuity by proposing a school model which caters to ages 3 to 14 (i.e. PreSchool to Middle School). We take immense pride in the regular feedback we receive on our ex-pupil's outstanding ability, once they have left our school, to integrate and adjust to different national or international school systems where their levels of performance and preparation seem to match those of excellence. The Bilingual School of Monza/Play English offers a Dual Language Immersion model of Education in English and in Italian through which young learners can acquire a second language while developing and maintaining their mother tongue. Our program of studies and model design is based on sound constructivist educational theories and scientific research. We believe that students best learn in an environment where they feel emotionally secure and safe and therefore we place particular importance on establishing caring environments and relationships amongst adults and children. We consider the student’s family as partners in the educational process and as such we encourage them to be active members of our learning community. We believe that all students have equal rights to the curriculum and as such we aim to differentiate our instructional and assessment practices to cater to the diversity of students’ learning styles, needs, and levels of competencies. We believe that every child has the right to an education which lays the foundation for a world of peace. Bilingual Education provides an academically rigorous educational model which embraces human communication, understanding, empathy, and appreciation of diversity. Our School will nurture the qualities of global citizenship as we prepare students to face the demands of an ever-changing world. View full school
