  1. Karel de Grote University College (KdG) stands for sustainable development for students, staff, and society. In a mutual interaction, based on an inviting learning, living, and working environment. Driven to let students perform to the best of their abilities and work towards top quality. Driven by values, Christian inspired, open towards other ideologies. Together, with both feet firmly in the real world, we turn KdG into a warm, sincere, and dynamic environment. Well-thought and confident. Karel de Grote University College alumni are professionals. They are aware of relevant internal and external developments, understand the criteria, competencies, values, and attitudes to act appropriately and are empathic and committed. It allows them to implement and use intercultural and international networks. They share a constructive and creative approach towards cooperation, leading to better and widely supported results. They are goal-oriented, turn their dreams into actions, have innovative ideas, and inspire others. Challenged by the continually evolving context in which they work, they never cease to learn. They are flexible and act upon changes in a pro-active and sustainable way. They aim high when it comes to acquiring the right skills. They take their life into their own hands and, as such, contribute positively to a sustainable local and global society. KdG’s learning context is innovative and challenging. KdG offers each student and staff member an intercultural experience, @home or international. In a co-creative atmosphere with students, alumni, teachers, and professionals, KdG enlarges its robust and interdisciplinary learning environments. Our methods encourage knowledge sharing and learning through experiences and cases across fields of study. We also implement new methods of workplace learning. KdG makes room for audacity, exploration, and experiment. We think of ‘failure’ as a real learning opportunity. That is why our curricula, education, and evaluation methods pro-actively anticipate new workplace and social developments on a factual basis and drawn up for students. At KdG, learning support and empowering feedback both serve as a structural part of the learning environment. We have high hopes for our students, esp. in inflow, transfer, and graduate-competences, and rely on their responsibility in achieving these competencies. This way, we reveal the full potential of our talents every day and also outside our learning context. Karel de Grote University College’s founders’ idea was a – literally – school with a name. Choosing Karel de Grote (Charles I, Charles the Great /742-814) – a European emperor responsible for a vast European empire and brought unity in people, languages, cultures, and social-economic systems. The Karel de Grote University College wants to play a European and international role. Hence the internationally legendary name (Carolus Magnus, Charlemagne). Furthermore, Charlemagne played an important role as far as the fundaments of Europe’s school system go. During his reign, medieval arts flourished like never before, the so-called Carolingian Renaissance. His court had a lasting influence on the renewal of the law, arts, science, and trade. Charlemagne was a devoted Christian. On December 20th, 1994, the ASBL organizing the school was founded. The Karel de Grote University College officially opened on September 1st, 1995. The inauguration took place on September 18th, 1995. Thirteen former catholic Antwerp high schools merged to form the Karel de Grote University College. As a student of Karel de Grote University College (KdG), you are assured of practice-oriented, authentic education. You are sure to feel at home in our school with its dynamic and warm learning environment. Here, you will get ample opportunities to work together, explore and experiment, and discover and develop your talents.
