The University is one of the leading technical education institutions in the Republic of Belarus. It provides training for the graduation of engineering personnel and higher scientific qualification personnel for such branches of industry as mechanical engineering, metallurgy, power engineering, economy, radio-electronic engineering, and information technologies. Following special permit (license) to provide educational activity issued by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus the University provides instruction in 21 specialties of the first level of higher education (for a Diploma of Higher Education), in 8 specialties of the second level of higher education ( for a Master's Degree), in 9 specialties for a Ph.D. and Doctor's Degrees, 18 specialties for retraining people with higher education and also pre-University training for students of high and high specialized education institutions. Guided by the aspiration for all-round development of mutually beneficial scientific, educational and cultural relations, mutual understanding and friendship between research and educational teams, social organizations, students, researchers and instructors of higher education institutions of fraternal nations on April 4, 2006, the Agreement on International Cooperation between higher education institutions and other educational institutions of border regions of Belarus (Vitebsk, Gomel, and Mogilev) and Russia (Briansk, Pskov, and Smolensk) was concluded. Presently 29 participants constitute the membership of the Association. The Technical Universities Association was established in 1993 on the initiative of Russia's leading technical universities based on the technical universities section of the Eurasia Universities Association. The Association is a non-commercial organization that represents the voluntary and open union of the technical universities. The Association conducts active policy aimed at unifying the efforts of states, educational institutions, organizations, and enterprises in the sphere of realizing the priority of constant development of higher engineering education based on ideas of progressive learning and the best traditions of higher engineering education. At present, 42 student`s creative units function at the University. The main goal is to improve the training of highly qualified specialists (the ones who possess knowledge of the latest achievements in science and techniques, as well as the set of skills and methods of scientific researches). The international cooperation of educational institution «Francis Skorina Gomel State University» is realized through the establishment of contacts and signing of agreements with foreign partners, as well as through the implementation of joint projects and programs, participation in international conferences, organization, and holding of international events with the participation of specialists from foreign countries. At present, 135 cooperation agreements with foreign educational and scientific institutions from 30 countries are valid. Among them: 60 agreements with far-abroad countries (China, Islamic Republic of Iran, Hungary, Vietnam, India, Germany, Sweden, Finland, France, the USA, Japan, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Spain, Korea, Taiwan) and 75 agreements with neighboring countries (Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Latvia, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan). All the agreements were signed on the non-currency basis. This procedure presupposes mutual assistance in scientific researches and specialist training, as well as students` mobility and exchange of scientific information. At present, the cabinet of Chinese studies opened in June 2006 with the assistance of the Embassy of PRC in the Republic of Belarus functions at the University. The Chinese teachers give the lectures with the assistance of the Embassy of PRC in the Republic of Belarus within the framework of the Agreement between the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus and State chancellery of China on the international dissemination of Chinese language. At present, 569 citizens from far-abroad and neighboring countries are studying at the University (citizens of China, Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Israel, Russia, Ukraine, Spain, Italy, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Tadjikistan, Kyrgyzstan). The intention to study thoroughly and to preserve the originality and uniqueness of Slavic culture for further generations, as well as the intention to contribute to the spiritual unity of fraternal Slavic people – Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian – inspired the researches of Francis Skorina Gomel State University to suggest the establishment of International association «Institution of Slavic studies» as the type of cooperation of higher education institutions and scientific institutions of border countries – Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. The following points determine the relevance and necessity of establishment of this association: first, the unique materialistic and spiritual culture of this eastern Slavic region has not been studied enough second, many ethnological and cultural elements, such as historical monuments, items of traditional folk craft, decorative yet and applied arts, customs, and ceremonies, products of folklore, dialectal titles gradually vanish because of resettlement of the majority of the population from Chernobyl zone of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine third, the values of materialistic folk culture gradually vanish over time and because of the process of generation, as the young do not sufficiently possess cultural heritage and folk traditions. An offsite meeting of the branch of the Department of mathematical issues of management and informatics was held to enhance specialized training of the graduates of the Faculty of mathematics and programming technologies. The meeting took place on the leading IT enterprise of Gomel region IBA-Gomel-Park where the educational and on-the-job training for the students is organized. The meeting was attended by the chief specialists on prospective IT areas providing practical development of software within the frames of international projects and agreements. The meeting participants confirmed the necessity to enroll and train the specialist on theoretical informatics. They discussed the expediency of high qualification specialists’ training on the specialty “Theory of informatics” fulfilled at the University since 2017. During the meeting, the participants discussed the issues of new courses for the students of IT specialties on artificial neural networks, materials on the discipline “Computer-assisted teaching” and “Fundamentals of theoretical Robo-technics.” They considered questions of specialized training for the students during their on-the-job training additional classes devoted to CV composition and interviews with prospective employers and coordinated the issues of establishment and organization of specialized seminars for senior pupils. It is generally agreed that these measures will contribute to the conditions for additional students' enrollment, broadening the opportunities for practical assistance at the stage of preliminary placement of the students. In January 2015 the project TEMPUS «Teacher Education and Training in Tourism in Belarus» («TETVET») was successfully implemented, the coordinator was the University of Paderborn (Germany). At present the University is engaged in three TEMPUS projects: «Eastern Partnership in Pedagogical Innovations in Inclusive Education» (INOVEST).
