- Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography (MIIGAiK) was established in 1779. It is the center of higher geodetic education in Russia and the largest educational institution in Europe. Thousands of University graduates are taking part in exploring Russia's territory and natural resources, in designing its maps, in constructing its cities, roads, and industrial enterprises. The scientists working at MIIGAiK are always the geodesy avant-garde, establishing and developing it as one of the fundamental Earth sciences. The glorious past of MIIGAiK, deep-rooted pedagogical and scientific traditions accumulated throughout 225 years of its development, the importance and vitality of geodetic science and practice for many branches of the national economy, a wide range of specialists being trained at the University - all these assure the leading role of MIIGAiK as a specialized institution of higher education. Today, the University is actively participating in exploring outer space and applying the results of this exploration to science, economy, agriculture, geological prospecting, and ecology. MIIGAiK renders great assistance to many countries of the world in training national scientific and engineering staff for geodesy and cartography - more than 2,000 foreign graduates from the University are working now in 85 countries worldwide. Many national geodetic services and topographic enterprises of different countries have close and mutually advantageous economic and scientific relations with the University. Our years of experience in training specialists and researchers, highly qualified teachers, modern laboratories and field bases, extensive contacts with various scientific institutions - all these guarantee those who study at the University the highest level of theoretical and practical training. Our University is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the field of geodesy and cartography. Despite its age, our University is in the permanent development and adaptation process to modern society's demands. The principal objectives of Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography are the following ones: To train specialists of high qualification, to have fundamental theoretical knowledge, practical skills in their specialty and be well informed of the most recent science and technology achievements To carry out, together with training, fundamental research and applied scientific studies, to participate in working out and developing particular purpose international projects of Russian and international organizations To provide researchers, instructors, and specialists with postgraduate training and additional retraining and courses for improving qualification. The University has entered the new century with a highly creative potential of the staff and a rich scientific base, actively using in the educational process the newest technological achievements in the field of geodesy, cartography, photogrammetry, remote sensing, and cadastre. Russian higher education is notable for its authority as one of the best engineering schools. Our professors and technical staff, having unique pedagogical experience in training students and postgraduates from all over the world, will always be happy to share their knowledge and experience with you. MIIGAiK educates researchers using postgraduate courses. Eight specialized academic councils are established for scientific theses and dissertations to be defended. The studies conducted in MIIGAiK embrace almost the whole range of problems of geodesy, cartography, and cadastre, as well as such specific fields as precise instrument-making, geoinformatics, ecology, and remote sensing.
- The University was founded as a Higher Technical School in 1942 in 1945; it was transformed into a State Polytechnic. In 1953 Engineering-Construction Institute (ISI) was formed, which in 1963 was renamed to the Higher Institute of engineering and construction in 1977 - the Higher Institute of Architecture and Construction (VIAS). On July 21, 1995, the National Assembly VIAS decision was transformed into the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Geodesy (UACEG). Several students: 5000 (including part-time 486, 352 foreign students and 50 doctoral students). Academic staff: regular faculty - 364 (including 25 professors, 147 associate professors, 168 assistant professors, 24 lecturers, 250 of them are Doctors of Sciences. ) For the duration of its existence, the University has prepared more than 5700 architects and 25,000 engineers. In five faculties - Architecture, Civil engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Geodesy, Transportation Engineering, and 33 departments senior executives are educated for the following majors: Architecture, Urban Planning, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Water Supply and Sewerage, and Geodesy. Mission OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ARCHITECTURE, CIVIL ENGINEERING, AND GEODESY : The public mission of UACEG is secular, and it is education- and research-oriented. A wide variety of architectural and civil engineering knowledge is acquired, and practical skills are developed at the University in harmony with the local, European and global traditions and the state policy for the higher education development in the Republic of Bulgaria. This mission is materialized in the following degree programs: Architecture, Structural Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering (Hydraulic Structures, Irrigation, and Drainage Engineering), Water Supply and Sewerage, Geodesy, and Transportation Engineering (Road Construction, Railway Construction.
