  1. Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, a Catholic, Dominican, independent, college-preparatory, day and boarding school, educates young women for a life of faith, integrity, and truth. An integrated life of study, prayer, service, and community, predicated on Veritas's motto — truth — constitutes the pillars of Dominican life and the foundation of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. FSHA was established in 1931 for the education of young women. FSHA shares in the 800-year heritage of the Dominican Order of Preachers, which is embedded in the Catholic faith. A Catholic, Dominican vision of education commits FSHA to educate the whole person in an educational setting that allows adolescent girls to flourish into young women who are well-prepared for college and beyond. To this end, FSHA strives to partner with parents in the formation of their daughters. FSHA recognizes the interdependence of physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, social, and environmental health and their learning benefits. Thus, FSHA offers a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum, outstanding visual and performing arts, an excellent athletic program, a dynamic campus ministry and service program, unique leadership opportunities in clubs, athletics, and co-curricular. Diversity is a vital element of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy's mission to educate young women for a life of faith, integrity, and truth. At FSHA, we seek to create and sustain a vibrant, inclusive community and we value and appreciate the uniqueness within each person to honor the diversity of God's creation. Academic excellence is at the core of Flintridge Sacred Heart, and the school's broad curriculum thoroughly prepares graduates for their journey into higher education. They become scholars, athletes, writers, visual and performing artists, and leaders within their communities. Our girls take risks, try new things, and accept challenges within the safe environment of FSHA. As a result, they learn to succeed and fail with dignity and grace, ultimately discovering their special talents and unique gifts. Our dedicated faculty and staff recognize the inner beauty and individual potential of each teenage girl. Over her four high school years, she realizes the fullness of whom she is becoming by finding her unique voice. Here, the Dominican charism governing our Catholic education is bold and vibrant – a philosophy that recognizes each person's intrinsic worth. We encourage you to visit our campus during the admissions process and speak with students and faculty, and to experience for yourself the distinctive spirit that is Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. Students are taught critical-thinking skills that apply just as quickly to a catapult experiment on the field to analyze The Catcher in the Rye. The latest technology enables an interactive experience in mathematics classrooms in addition to team projects in religion courses. With a truly international student body, FSHA provides a global awareness to its graduates and prepares them thoroughly for their higher education journey. Dedicated instructors teach in a seven-period rotating block format with 80-minute classes, allowing students to complete graduation requirements and sample a wide variety of electives across many disciplines.
  2. Flintridge Preparatory School was founded in 1933 as Flintridge School for Boys. In 1979, the school transitioned to coeducation, assuming its present configuration as a coed, nonsectarian day school with a middle school (7th and 8th grades) of 100 students and a high school of 400 students. Today's campus features state-of-the-art labs, classrooms, and performing arts spaces, with a two-story library, inviting patios, fields, gym, and pool, yet keeps that sense of timelessness and intimacy and peaceful greenery that are hallmarks of our early years. Flintridge Prep values academics, excellent college counseling resources, service impact opportunities, sports, and arts. It's a tightly knit community, a network of intimate connections. Here, strong bonds are forged between student and student, student and teacher, study, and dreams. It's a place where students have nearly unlimited opportunities to discover and cultivate their creative and athletic gifts. In this cooperative and caring environment, we nurture critical thinking and intellectual curiosity to prepare students to embrace lifelong learning. The school bears a philosophical resemblance to the island of Shakespeare's The Tempest, and our teachers are not unlike the play's hero, Prospero. The latter provides the characters on the island with an opportunity to realize their learning potential. Just as the characters reach the end of the play, ready to leave the magical, sheltered island and enter the larger world with the island's lessons now a part of them, our graduates take Flintridge Prep with them. We are often described as a community that takes the form of a school. We provide a warm, nurturing learning environment with small class sizes and plenty of attention (the student-teacher ratio is 8:1, and the average class size is 15 students). Our students are excited to learn and grow. Whether they are interested in arts, athletics, or both, our program balances rigor with fun while encouraging students to discover their bold path to a balanced and responsible life. Our faculty is top-notch, talented, and dedicated, and includes teachers with terminal degrees, teaching artists, and teaching coaches and deans. Faculty satisfaction is that high tenure is long. We offer generous compensation packages for faculty, and our faculty take advantage of creative and fascinating professional development opportunities. We look for the best students who are intellectually curious, engaged, energetic, entrepreneurial, thoughtful, and kind. We give them the knowledge and critical skills, nurture their creativity, and guide their development as human beings, offering various co-curricular activities to complement our academics. We involve parents and alumni on and off-campus and encourage and appreciate their association with the school long after graduation. Our administration and trustees guide day-to-day and long term policy, balancing innovation and sustainability. Flintridge Preparatory School seeks to nurture its students the knowledge, critical skills, community values, and creativity essential for an engaged, balanced, and responsible life. Our Philosophy: We believe in a balanced approach to our students' full human development, promoting both academic achievement and creativity, social engagement and individuality, vibrant health, happiness, and responsibility. We believe students thrive in intimate and supportive settings when challenged to realize their full potential. Toward that end, we are committed to retaining, developing, and supporting outstanding and committed school faculty and administration. We believe students can make positive contributions to their classmates, school, and community through intellectual and social development, sportsmanship and character, and community engagement. We believe in encouraging creativity, risk-taking, and the development of a mature and self-confident personality. We believe in the essential value of diversity -- of people, talent, interests, passions, and engagements. Flintridge is a place for people who choose front row seats in the classroom. It is a place filled with people who raise their hands—where students thrive on answering questions, challenging their teachers' assertions, and their classmates' viewpoints. We love the student who approaches us outside of class to continue a discussion or debate. Whatever your passion, Flintridge is a great place to pursue it. We promise your time here will be busy, but we also know you will love your teachers and classmates. You will find none better, and you will never find people who care more about each other and for you. We look forward to seeing you grow here with us.
