  1. It is a privilege to be the fourth Principal of Matthew Flinders Anglican College. As one of the pre-eminent schools in Queensland, we are proud to provide excellence in education in a co-educational setting. All good schools look to stimulate the heart and soul, the body, and the mind. One of the very best things about Flinders is the favorable climate for learning present throughout the College. Students are at the heart of our work, and the breadth and depth of the involvement of Flinders students are extraordinary. The staff here are professional and dedicated. The students are the beneficiaries of their shared commitment to the education of those in their care. Set on a beautifully treed and landscaped campus approximately 10 minutes' drive from the coastal beaches, Flinders is well-known for its state-of-the-art Performance Centre, the unique and magical Early Learning Centre, and the superb flood-lit sports ovals, among other impressive facilities, such as the brand new Aquatic Centre. Our students benefit from having all of our facilities on-site and thus readily accessible during school hours and beyond the school day via our extensive co-curricular program. We proud of the College, and I want Flinders students to be proud too: proud of the community of which they are a part, proud of their own and the College's collective achievements, and proud of the values they take with them when they leave, developed and nurtured in an environment of safety, happiness and mutual respect. Our Mission is to create educational experiences dedicated to fostering learning for life. The College promotes Christian values in all endeavors, pursuing academic excellence and striving for decency, with an open spirit of inquiry and respect for truth. The College provides a nurturing environment in which individuals are valued for their specific gifts. All students are encouraged to realize their potential, to be active contributors to the College and the wider community. Our Vision gives each student an inspiring education by providing opportunities for excellence in a compassionate environment. With an emphasis on Christian principles, Matthew Flinders Anglican College strives to uphold and promote honesty and courage, trust and openness, support and encouragement, unselfish service and a sense of community, commitment and determination, discipline, responsibility, and respect for self and others. Matthew Flinders Anglican College welcomes students, parents, and staff from diverse backgrounds and cultures. The love of God, tolerance, and compassion for others is modeled across all College areas. The Habits of Mind and the Spiritual Compass are models of attitudes and behaviors to complement the Biblical teaching of the Christian Ethos. Matthew Flinders Anglican College's origins are to be found in the deliberations of the Rural Deanery (Sunshine Coast) of the Anglican Church of Australia. The Foundation Committee of the College decided on the name "Matthew Flinders" to recognize one of our distinguished explorers' spirit, in the same way, that James Cook and Charles Sturt have Universities named after them. The College aims to promote individual excellence with a school community based on Christian principles. The College motto "Faith, Skill, Endeavour" evokes the spirit of Matthew Flinders and the values that the College is attempting to instill in its student body. Founded in 1990, the College is a separately incorporated independent day school that commenced with 160 students in Years 5 to 8. Since that time, the College has built a fine reputation as an educational institution of excellence and, in 2015, has a total enrolment of 1,315. The demand by parents for the type of education we offer at Matthew Flinders is increasing, in part, due to the type of citizens we encourage our students to become.

As a Christian school, we seek to work with parents and guardians to develop principled, thoughtful, and analytical young people prepared to take a purposeful place in the community. Flinders is designed and operated to achieve long term results related to student understanding, dispositions for lifelong learning, and service in the Kingdom of God. At Flinders, we value love, faith, integrity, humility, grace, excellence, and perseverance. Respect for self and others life-long learning a safe and nurturing environment growth and transformation a strong partnership with staff, students, families, and community. 3. Traralgon (Kinder to Year 8): The Traralgon campus of Flinders Christian Community College became a Chairo campus from the beginning of 2018 and provided quality Christian education for children of Latrobe Valley families. The terms Christ-centred education and Christian education are both used to describe the education provided at Chairo. It is an education delivered by teachers who possess a biblical worldview and can help students develop a similar worldview of their own. The Bible becomes the lens through which students view what they are learning. Christians believe the world belongs to God and that He has a plan for all who live in it. Christian education is not about avoiding the world. Instead, it seeks to engage with the culture and prepare students for lives that reflect, serve, and honor God. It is about acknowledging God in every subject area, indeed, in every area of life. Education at Chairo is delivered via a broad range of subjects and experiences. While the Bible is central, we certainly do not ignore human discovery, current scientific understanding, or society's hot topics. We seek to embrace all areas of life by equipping students to be biblically informed, academically rigorous, and critically discerning. Christian education seeks to lead students to discover the world that allows them to comprehend the incredible way God made and sustains everything. It encourages them to discover the excellent potential that each of them has for fulfilled and productive living. Fundamental Christian values and principles—including compassion and mercy, concern for integrity and justice, the courage to pursue what is right and resist what is harmful, and commitment to service for the benefit of others—are fundamental to a true Christian or Christ-centred education. Christian schools provide an education that supports and complements parents in encouraging Christian values and character in their children, always seeking to reinforce the training, instruction, and example received in the Christian home. Chairo's Mission, Values, and Vision reflect our desire to work in partnership with families and see each student develop capability, character, and commitment. Our Mission To provide excellence in Christ-centred education in partnership with families within a caring Christian community. Our Vision is to see Christ's redemptive impact in the world through our students' capability, character, and commitment.
  4. For over 50 years, Flinders has been a center of inspiring achievement: from our pioneering research and excellence in teaching to the positive impact we have in the communities we serve. Inspiration leads to innovation. But innovation is more than just a buzzword at Flinders. As we enter an era of disruptive change and remarkable technological innovation, Flinders is well prepared for this unpredictable, exciting future. Our strong network of external links keeps our work dynamic, enabling us to connect across barriers to create enterprising solutions for the future, to make a difference by changing lives and, ultimately, the world. Our fifty years of teaching and learning alone did not put us in world universities' top echelons. Nor have our state-of-the-art facilities and teaching footprint that extends from South Australia, Western Victoria to the Northern Territory. What got 90% of our research rated world-class or above was commitment*. An unshakable, unbreakable commitment to Making A Difference. Not just to our students but a more extensive world through Flinders graduates breaking new ground in all corners of the globe, with students engaged in research in everything from medicine to manufacturing, through leadership and linkages with the wider commercial world. We Go Beyond the norms, the naysayers, and the barriers. That is what Making A Difference is all about. Our vision is to be internationally recognized as a world leader in research, an innovator in contemporary education, and the source of Australia's most enterprising graduates. Changing lives and changing the world. Our underlying ethos of being student-centered is a distinguishing feature of the Flinders' experience. It is the measure by which we judge the impact of innovation in teaching and student support. Innovative courses will be led by inspirational teachers, supported by advanced learning technologies, to create a learning experience that is flexible, richly interactive, and highly personalized. Our teaching will embed in every degree program research opportunities that nurture the creativity and critical thinking skills that will be determinants of success in an information-rich world. Our clear focus on student success will distinguish Flinders and empower students to achieve to the very best of their abilities, irrespective of their background or individual circumstances. The Flinders Experience will provide work-integrated learning opportunities and a thriving international mobility program that will enhance personal enterprise and intercultural skills development, enriching the educational experience. Flinders graduates will be equipped to make a difference in the world as respectful and ethical global citizens. Our student's and alumni's achievements will be the measure by which our success as a world-class education provider will be judged. View full university
