  4. We have the exciting opportunity to establish a challenging education within a supportive and caring environment. We will operate a stage, not age approach which will encourage all children to make rapid progress, with an emphasis on numeracy, literacy, and communication. We will also focus on enabling children to apply what they have learned, encouraging independence, teamwork, and questioning. At MCPA we have an innovative and child-centered relevant curriculum that will continue to grow with the pupils. We challenge all learners and staff through ambitious targets, ensuring that there are no barriers to progress or attainment. In addition to the core requirements of the curriculum, our children all access the ‘MCPA opportunities’. From September 2015, we welcomed children to our wonderful newly built academy and we have continued to grow ever since. We currently have a 52 place nursery and classes for reception, year 1, year 2, year 3, and year 4. We will have places for 472 children when we are full. We appreciate that it is important that you select the right school for your child, for that reason we prefer you to visit us during the school day so you get a real understanding of our aims, values, and expectations. Applications for admission to the nursery at MCPA will be dealt with by the academy, not by the local authority. Applicants should apply directly to MCPA for a nursery place. An application may be made for a Nursery place any time after your child’s second birthday. Application forms for September start/ intake must be in the Academy by the end of February. Late applications will be considered once the allocation process has been completed should there be any remaining places in the nursery. Manchester Communication Primary Academy will admit 60 reception children each September. All parents/carers are required to apply to their home LA regards to where the Academy they are applying is situated. Manchester residents will apply to Manchester LA. The LA will liaise with other Admissions Authorities in Manchester and other LAs where required. Manchester LA will inform parents/carers in writing of the outcome of their application. MCPA has a curriculum that is: for the 21st century adaptable challenging and inspiring. We believe that all children should leave school with a firm foundation in the key areas of literacy, numeracy, and communication to ensure that every child will acquire the key skills needed to take on a full range of other subjects with confidence. The Academy will provide a range of interventions to support children with particular learning needs. We will follow the statutory code of practice in identifying, assessing, and supporting students with special educational needs. The Manchester Communication Primary Academy will be a calm and orderly environment where children are well mannered and show the highest respect for each other and their community. We will build a culture of high expectations and high achievement, which will require hard work and resilience from all. We believe that it is important to teach good manners, respect for others, and social responsibility. Good attendance is essential to success at school and all students are expected to have an excellent attendance record and be punctual. If your child becomes ill at school they will be referred to the school nurse who will decide whether they are fit to stay in school or need medical attention. Here at MCPA, we believe that homework is a good way of supporting children's learning in school and involving parents as partners in their child's education. As such we expect parents to read with their child, help them to learn weekly spellings, and complete other activities set by the class teacher. Parents who cannot support this can sign their child up to a homework club where they can do this work with the support of staff in a relaxed but focused environment. We think that we give a sufficient amount of homework as the primary function of a child's evenings and weekends should be spending quality time with their family and friends. As part of this quality time, however, some parents may like to do some additional work, or play games with their children to support their learning. This page contains a list of websites that parents can access to enable this.
