- Clifton Lodge is a small, welcoming school, which enables us to get to know all our pupils and families extremely well. There is a friendly, inclusive atmosphere with small class sizes, where children are supported by each other as well as their teachers. Our children feel safe and secure. Lessons are routinely differentiated so that every child has the opportunity to be academically challenged. As a preparatory school, we focus on entry into the best academic senior schools. These entrance assessments provide the skills required for public exams later in school life. Traditionally in West London, girls move on to senior schools at 11+ and boys at 13+ we prepare pupils for both. As well as the academic ISEB curriculum, there is a wide range of clubs and activities that children can be fully engaged in. Sport, music, and drama are a vital part of the curriculum and we celebrate our pupils’ successes in these areas. The school is divided into two sections, each with a dedicated team of experienced staff. The Lower School includes children from Nursery to Year 3. These children are taught by their class teacher, supported by subject specialist teachers in several curriculum areas. The teacher also receives support from teaching assistants. In our Upper School children are taught by subject specialists. This prepares them for the rigors of Common Entrance and senior school entrance exams. During their time at Clifton Lodge, children develop into highly motivated, well-rounded individuals with the skills and abilities to cope extremely well in their chosen senior school. Additional, Music, Drama, and Dance are offered to support the school’s curriculum and are vital elements in ensuring that pupils leaving Clifton Lodge can be said to be educated, in its fullest sense. Along with Art and Sport, these subjects are often important indicators used by senior schools when selecting pupils for entry. We have a thriving choir at Clifton Lodge. Pupils from Year 2 can audition to be part of the choir at the start of the academic year. Being part of the choir requires a commitment to learn the songs, attend rehearsals, and all the performances. There is choir rehearsals each Wednesday and Friday lunchtime in term-time. The choir covers a wide-ranging repertoire of songs and styles from classical, baroque, folk, pop, blues, etc… and enjoys singing in three-part harmonies as well as in unison and Accapella. They perform at many of the school events and festivals throughout the year such as Harvest and Remembrance assemblies, the Christmas carol concert, the Spring concert, and Speech day. Pupils have numerous opportunities to take part in events and productions throughout the year which showcases their talents in music and drama. Besides, we regularly invite ‘Perform’ into school to hold drama workshops with our Lower School pupils. Older pupils can take part in our annual drama production held at the Town Hall, there are opportunities both on stage and behind the scenes to get involved. View full school
- Clifton Hall has existed as an independent school since its inception in 1930. Originally a boys’ prep school, it was founded by Richard Killick and Robert Ainslie, who saw the need for a good independent feeder school. The school was built around the belief in both high academic standards and high moral standards, focusing on courtesy, self-respect, and the development of character. The school continued to flourish and under the Headship of George Mathewson was rightly perceived as the leading independent prep school in Scotland, if not the UK. Under Mark Adams, the school became fully co-educational, made the transition from Prep School to a Primary school, and opened a Nursery school. It was a huge privilege to be able to offer all-through education from age 3 to 18 in 2008, and since then the school has almost tripled in size. With our unique environment and our policy of limiting the school to only 400 students, we can offer your child quality of education unsurpassed. So what makes Clifton Hall different from other schools? Well, we treat each pupil as an individual and we seek to personalize their education so that they can benefit from being allowed to shine. Clifton Hall School will NEVER contain more than 400 pupils, in small classes and small year groups. With this structure, we can discover talents, care and nurture and help to assist in the development of character and self-belief. We see the student who is a talented ballet dancer in the same high regard as the student achieving an A at Advanced Higher in English in the same high regard as the junior pupil who has already attained Grade 8 on the violin. In other words, whatever your talent, whatever your ability, we will ensure you have the opportunity to develop in the way which is important to you. Clifton Hall continues to work hard in all areas of Eco-Schools. Our three main focus areas are litter, Food and the Environment, and Water. Hold n Eco-Schools Green Flag, which is a fantastic honor. We hope to achieve our second Green Flag during this school year. View full school

Landscaped greenery surrounds our magnificent Grade II listed buildings, which are on the outskirts of a vibrant international city. The Chapel is one of our most cherished buildings, the Redgrave is the second largest theatre in Bristol and the Joseph Cooper Music School offers pupils cutting-edge facilities. Our superb sporting facilities include The Close and the 90-acre site known as ‘Beggar’s Bush’, which is Bristol’s biggest outdoor sports complex, providing all the latest sporting facilities. At Clifton, we are committed to providing pupils with an outstanding environment within which to live and study. Clifton College successfully combines heritage with modernity, enjoying the best of both. Landscaped greenery surrounds our magnificent buildings, and, every quarter-hour, the distinctive chime of the Chapel Clock can be heard echoing around the South Quad. The distinctive, historic buildings at Clifton provide an inspirational backdrop for learning, with an enviable mix of modern facilities and traditional 19th-century architecture. The Percival Library is a beautiful Grade II listed building, home to more than 15,000 books and a computer suite this and other specialized buildings, such as the Joseph Cooper Music School and the Redgrave Theatre, ensure our pupils have access to first-class facilities, which enhance their educational experience. Clifton also enjoys an unrivaled science heritage of Nobel Prize winners. This arose from the highly equipped and staffed Science School, which includes the Stone Library, containing approximately 5,000 scientific books. Another of our most cherished buildings is the beautiful Grade II listed Chapel, which has provided a focal point for the College for over 150 years, hosting services, concerts, and a wide range of other events. The school’s impressive sports facilities total 90 acres, providing pupils with international-standard indoor and outdoor sporting facilities. The College’s 150-year heritage is evidence of its ethos and achievements. Clifton has a unique story amongst leading public schools which explains the character and achievements of today’s Californians. Clifton was set up by Bristol businessmen and led by Dr. John Percival, a visionary, intellectual Head Master who believed in science, the education of women, and racial tolerance. He was a Victorian ahead of his time he aimed to produce “children of varied but definite character” and built a school where the teaching, library, and chapel were central to our private school. His curriculum and activities outside the classroom developed young people who were confident without arrogance and had a sense of responsibility towards others characteristics which remain today. The buildings have a rich history of their own, from the famous architects who designed them to the people who occupied them. In the 1880s, the provision of education for Jewish pupils fostered cultural understanding, whilst in the 1940s, occupation by the US Army meant the pupils had to be evacuated to Cornwall, producing a modern, focused outlook amongst the pupils and staff. This ensured the next generation was well-equipped to handle the social changes in the 1960s when many equivalent schools struggled. These unique events ensured an easy transition into co-education in the 1980s. Individuals throughout the College’s history have made their names and changed the way society operated. Old Cliftonians who have gone on to become household names include actors Trevor Howard and Simon Russell-Beale, comedian John Cleese, inventor of the Belisha Beacon Leslie Hore-Belisha, General Douglas Haig, journalist John Inverdale and GB Hockey player Lily Owsley, whose team won gold in the 2016 Olympic Games. - Clifton Hall has existed as an independent school since its inception in 1930. A boys’ prep school was initially founded by Richard Killick and Robert Ainslie, who saw the need for an excellent independent feeder school. The school was built around the belief in high academic standards and high moral standards, focusing on courtesy, self-respect, and character development. The school continued to flourish, and under the Headship of George Mathewson was rightly perceived as the leading independent prep school in Scotland, if not the UK. Under Mark Adams, the school became fully co-educational, made the transition from Prep School to a Primary school, and opened a Nursery school. It was a huge privilege to offer all-through education from ages 3 to 18 in 2008, and since then, the school has almost tripled in size. With our unique environment and our policy of limiting the school to only 400 students, we can offer your child quality of education unsurpassed. So what makes Clifton Hall different from other schools? We treat each pupil as an individual, and we seek to personalize their education so that they can benefit from being allowed to shine. Clifton Hall School will NEVER contain more than 400 pupils in small classes and small year groups. With this structure, we can discover talents, care, and nurture and help develop character and self-belief.
