  1. Chiao Tung University was founded in 1896 (the 22nd year of the Kuanghsu Era of the Ching Dynasty). The school's original name was NanyangCollege. In 1912, it was renamed the Shanghai Vocational College of Higher Education. In 1921, it was renamed Chiao Tung University again. And in 1937, it was renamed once more National Chiao Tung University (NCTU). In 1958, the University began anew in Hsinchu with the establishment of NCTU Institute of Electronics. In 1967, the Institute of Electronics was reorganized to be the College of Engineering, and in 1979, the school's present name was restored. In retrospect of the development of NCTU, we can see that the current accomplishments come from our forerunners' contributions. Considering the Chiao Tung Universities in mainland China as a strong old tree trunk, we may regard NCTU in Hsinchu as a flourishing new branch. The ordering and dissemination of the school's glorious history is undoubtedly an extremely significant event as we recall its past and spur ourselves toward the future. The University History Area of this museum was constructed based on this idea. The contents include some of NCTU's firsts, a brief NCTU's chronicle, an illustration of the NCTU System's development, the university seal, flag, motto, school song, and some episodes from NCTU's history. These contents as a whole are expected to provide a visitor to this museum a full view of NCTU's development in the past. National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) was originally founded in Shanghai, China, in 1896 as the second modern University in China and re-established in Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1958 as a primary engineering and management research university. Today NCTU has become a comprehensive university consisting of nine colleges with 700 full-time faculty members and 14,000 students. Among full-time students, 60% of them are in post-graduate programs. NCTU has approximately 610 international students hailing from 59 different countries or regions, and the number of international students is expected to reach at least 10 % of the total student population shortly. NCTU pursues academic excellence and natural talent to ensure its uniqueness. Its vision, to be the top University in the world, is hoped to be achieved by nurturing students' abilities in leadership and innovation. Thanks to NCTU's proximity to the Hsinchu Science Park, NCTU provides students with opportunities to work with top high-tech companies. Approximately 65% of CEOs in high-tech companies in the Hsinchu Science Park are NCTU alumni. From 2006 to 2010, there were 336 patents granted, and the technology transfer amount was over 13 million US dollars, both ranked number one among universities in Taiwan. Our engineering and computer science departments are the largest and most notable in Taiwan. Both departments have been ranked in the range of 40-50 in the past few years in SJTU's Academic Ranking of World Universities. NCTU has an increasingly internationalized campus and has attracted students from more than 40 countries. The University is also expanding partnerships with leading industries and prominent academic and research institutes worldwide as part of the commitment to internationalization. The Office of International Affairs has been established to promote the internationalization process and enhance its global presence. NCTU has entered into nearly 300 international collaboration agreements, including dual degree programs, sister universities, and joint research projects. English-taught courses are offered in all nine colleges, while Chinese language courses are available for international students free of charge. One example of international collaboration is the NCTU Europe Office, set up at the Chalmers University of Technology in 2003 in Sweden to assist exchange students in Europe, while the Chalmers Asia Office was also set up on the NCTU campus to assist their exchange students in Asia. As the University continues the drive for internationalization, it is continually looking for collaboration and exchange opportunities in all areas.

  4. We are committed to providing an education that allows each student to develop his/her full being in all areas of human development – academic, physical, emotional, spiritual, and social, to interact as critical and compassionate thinkers, and to become responsible members of our global society. We aim to achieve this through a challenging, comprehensive, and balanced curriculum based on the American educational system and a student-centered teaching approach with an emphasis on traditional values. Kang Chiao International School is the subsidiary of Kang Chiao Bilingual School (founded in 2002). It is a private, co-educational, non-profit school with boarding facilities. It serves to provide an international education for local and expatriate families. KCIS currently offers an overseas college preparatory program for grades 7-12. The junior high section of the international school was registered and started to accept students in 2004. In 2009, the high school section was officially established. The school is accredited by the Taiwanese Ministry of Education. Kang Chiao’s educational program is designed to provide a strong foundation for life-long literacy. We believe that every child is a unique and important individual who can learn. We believe it is our responsibility to serve as facilitators for the development of each child's maximum potential academically, physically, socially, and emotionally. We are committed to providing opportunities, which assist in helping students make self-directed, and responsible decisions. Each student will gain from his or her school experience in direct proportion to the effort he/she puts forth. To increase the opportunity for success, teachers, parents, and administrators must communicate openly and frequently. Kang Chiao’s faculty and staff, like you, all want the best for your children, but we cannot do it alone. Parents play a key role in the educational process. A word of encouragement, a hug when the day has been rough, interest in your child's work, and your presence at school functions are proven ingredients for academic success. Parents are important! We invite you to come to school, meet with us, talk to us, join the PTA and volunteer your time and energy. Your involvement will demonstrate to your child that you value education and are interested in ensuring their success. KCIS students are required to perform 80 hours of community service. Extracurricular offerings include soccer, basketball, volleyball, triathlon, canoe polo, orchestra, music, Model United Nations, HOBY Youth Leadership Camp, People to People Ambassador program, Student Council, ASEAN Summit, NASA Space Program, and more than 44 different clubs offered at both middle and high school levels.
