- Welcome to The Charter School East Dulwich. The Charter School East Dulwich is an inclusive, entrepreneurial, and academically-rigorous secondary school serving the vibrant communities of East Dulwich and South Camberwell. Going into our second year of operation, we are one of the most over-subscribed new schools in the country. As part of The Charter Schools Educational Trust, we are founded on the conviction that all children deserve the opportunity to succeed, whatever their start in life or personal circumstances. We are a school at the heart of our community: a place where children walk to school together and where friendships, between students and between parents, grow stronger as a result of daily contact in and outside of the classroom. We teach our students to be curious, creative, confident, courageous, and caring. They will be happy in themselves, excited about their future, and ambitious for success. They will leave us fully able to participate in our democratic society and prepared to meet the challenges and to harvest the opportunities of life in the 21st century. All of this will require dedication and hard work - both in lessons and outside of lessons. We expect a lot of our students. We expect them to commit to developing their aptitudes. For some students, this will mean exploring specialist subject areas such as Mandarin or Theatre Studies. For others, this will mean additional support in literacy and mathematics. We expect all students to participate enthusiastically in the extra-curricular life of the school, through additional sports and specialist clubs and societies, some of which we offer in partnership with our outstanding sibling school, The Charter School North Dulwich. Finally, we expect students to contribute actively and generously to their community, through volunteering programs, peer support, and exemplary personal conduct. In return, we will work tirelessly to provide students with the support and encouragement needed to achieve their goals. Five core values underpin all aspects of our school life: Curiosity Creativity Confidence Courageousness Caring These values form the backbone of character and relationship education at The Charter School East Dulwich. Students will leave our care understanding each of these values in-depth and modeling them in later life. We have designed a curriculum rich in the powerful knowledge and concepts all students need--first, to understand the world in-depth and eventually to thrive in it both personally and professionally. This will include a thorough grounding in the best that has been thought and said from around the globe. Our Foundations (Key Stage 3) curriculum runs from Year 7 to Year 9. The core curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum but is not bound by its constraints. Instead, we apply the most appropriate elements and enhance students' learning through units of study specifically designed to stretch them scholastically and personally and to lay solid foundations for future success. In Key stage 4, pupils will follow tailored pathways of study, reflecting their aptitudes and interests. All pathways will include the core subjects of English language and literature, mathematics, and science, but will also include optional subjects. Most pupils will have the opportunity to study for the English Baccalaureate suite of qualifications, which offer the widest field of professional opportunities in later life. The Key stage 4 tutorial program will focus on the development of professional and life skills that will prepare students for fulfilling adult lives. Community and work experience placements will be part of the Key Stage 4 curriculum for all pupils. The school will also offer opportunities for leadership development activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh scheme. Pupils will be provided with information, advice, and guidance to create a personalized program of study in Years 12 and 13. The school will offer a wide range of A-Levels and other Level 3 qualifications. Work-Related Learning provision will remain a key feature of school life in Years 12 and 13. All Year 12 pupils will undertake one hour a week of Community Service, in line with provision at The Charter School, in North Dulwich. We will expect all of our students to secure offers from the higher education provider of their choice or positions on higher-level apprentice schemes. Students with suitable levels of academic achievement will be provided with bespoke support for applications to Oxford and Cambridge colleges and medical schools. The Charter School East Dulwich will provide an excellent education for young people from the local community in a safe, supportive learning environment, where people are valued and make positive contributions to the school, and where students go on to become responsible, independent members of society. We believe that all our young people have the potential to achieve in school and succeed in life. Whatever their starting point no young person will be left behind. Excellent performance comes through effort, motivation, and targeted interventions throughout the years of secondary education. View full school
- The Charter School is an outstanding family school. Our students are encouraged to persevere, to take responsibility for themselves and others, and to enjoy their learning. We are extremely proud to be recognized as one of the top schools in the country for our achievement. Our GCSE students perform exceptionally well across all EBACC subjects at GCSE, and we are in the top 10% of schools for our A-Level performance. This year, 76% of students in Year 11 gained a standard pass or above in both English and Maths (grade 4 or better). At A level, 50% of all Year 13 students gained at least 3 A levels with A* to B grades, and 100% of all level 3 BTEC grades were at Distinction or Distinction*. We have been classed as outstanding by Ofsted since 2006, but, due to our commitment to continuous improvement, we feel that we are better now than we were at the time of our last inspection. The Charter School has been congratulated for being one of the top 100 non-selective state-funded schools in England. Nick Gibb MP, Minister of State for Schools, wrote to congratulate the school for the high percentage of our pupils achieving 5 or more GCSEs at grades A* - C in 2015. We have also won a 'Pupil Premium Award' for being one of the most improved schools in the country in terms of the attainments and value-added progress of our disadvantaged pupils. If your child joins The Charter School you can be confident that the school they become part of will have improved again – and will continue to do so throughout their journey with us. We are very proud of their many amazing achievements including brilliant exam results, fantastic sporting achievements, wonderful music performances, entry to the top universities in the country, and successful careers as lawyers, doctors, engineers, musicians, and artists. We are a family school because we are large enough to provide a dynamic, challenging curriculum yet small enough to pay attention to the needs of every child. We know that each child is different and each child deserves success. As you might expect from a school founded in 2000 – we move with the times. Our vibrant, dynamic, and exceptional school community is ideally set to meet the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century, whether that is as one of the few schools teaching Mandarin for over five years, or for our unrivaled program of events that develop our students’ employability skills and prepare them for the world beyond school. We believe we are unique in our combination of inclusion and excellence. We are an inclusive and happy family school founded on caring relationships with every child, but we also provide an exceptional academic education, supported by wide-ranging and exceptional sporting, cultural and artistic activities. Our Values: Excellence, Responsibility, Perseverance, Family. All students will develop the knowledge, skills, and character so that they can be happy in life, and be successful in higher education or the inspiring career pathway of their choice. The curriculum at The Charter School lies at the core of school activity. It is broad and balanced and meets in full the requirements of the National Curriculum and current legislation. Every pupil and student is entitled to a curriculum that is rich and varied, challenging and inspiring which enables every individual to achieve her or his potential to the highest possible standard so that all, for the benefit of all, can shape their destinies and create a better world. The Charter School is an outstanding family school that inspires and delivers excellence. Our students are encouraged to persevere, to take responsibility for themselves and others, and to enjoy their learning. We are delighted and extremely proud to be recognized as one of the top schools in the country for our achievement. View full school

In 2009, the State statute was changed to grant Charter Oak State College authority to offer Master's degrees. - Founded in 1689, Penn Charter is the oldest Quaker school in the world. Penn Charter is the fifth-oldest school in America and the oldest Quaker school in the world. Our core principles—mutual respect, equality, community—are endlessly renewable and fearlessly modern. Penn Charter is a pre-K to 12 coed Friends school. Initially located in Old City, the school moved to Philadelphia's East Falls neighborhood in the 1920s and now enjoys all the benefits of a green, 47-acre campus. We are close to nearly everything but not in the middle of it. We have lawns and playing fields, separate buildings for Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools, and state-of-the-art facilities for academics, arts, and athletics. We value scholarship and inquiry. With excellence as our standard, we challenge students in a rigorous academic, arts, and athletics program. Through global connections, civic engagement, and a focus on environmental sustainability, we inspire students to be thinkers, collaborators, innovators, and leaders. We educate students to live lives that make a difference. A school community that honors difference, Penn Charter seeks to be a place where diversity is understood, represented, and valued. Our curriculum embraces a plurality of cultures, and celebrates various voices, instilling in us a deeper understanding and empathy for individuals in this community and the world. We value that of God in each student and foster excellence in academics, arts, and athletics. Our educational program exposes students to a breadth of content and ideas and opportunities for in-depth exploration in the pursuit of personal passion. Guided by research and best practices, faculty collaborate across divisions and disciplines to design and deliver engaging and relevant learning experiences. We provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in a complex and changing world. We believe that people have the capacity for growth, and we are committed to the patient pursuit and continuous revelation of truth. Accordingly, we make decisions in a searching manner. We are strengthened as a school, as a community, and as individuals when we engage in discussion and share in the decision-making process. Weekly Meeting for Worship is central to the school's life and roots us in the Quaker belief that there is that of God in everyone. This shared belief in each person's unique worth commits us to treat one another with love and respect. We embrace Friends' deeply held concerns for justice, compassion, simplicity, integrity, and the peaceful resolution of conflict. As students progress through Penn Charter, we instill social responsibility to others and the world by providing service opportunities. We educate students to live lives that make a difference. A classic education has always been about gaining the keys of knowledge to unlock any door. In short, access to the world. The difference at Penn Charter is that along with classic academic keys, we give students a Quaker moral compass to guide them and friends of all backgrounds to travel and explore the world. We integrate the power of arts and athletics into a vigorous academic experience. We give students a culture of service and leadership in which to grow. Too often, academics, arts, and athletics are pitted against one another. Penn Charter recognizes the worthiness of each. We are a school with nationally recognized teachers and students in the sciences, visual arts, history, literature, music, writing, mathematics, languages, and theater. We have a proud history of championship athletics with graduates who go on to be professional sports stars, Olympians, and NCAA recruits. Students here have mentors, programs, and state-of-the-art spaces in all three of our hallmark three A's. Some achieve great heights in one area or another, but every student has a unique education process. Our Quaker values are about whom our students are as developing adults. Our students are people who will run companies, shape economic policy, design new technologies, make scientific breakthroughs, and mentor future generations. When they are in these positions of power one day, we want them to be people who can use the Quaker values they learned at this school to inform their decisions. Simplicity and excellence. Tolerance and accountability. Reflection and rigor. These are the directions our Quaker compass takes students. It is an education that is more valuable in today's world than perhaps ever before.
