      1. Oasis Academy Blakenhale Junior is an improving school. Our recent re-design of our building and internal improvements has allowed us to design a school that fits the needs and purposes of our pupils. We have delightful children who are happy, thoughtful and engaged in their learning. Our school has an exciting future ahead. We aim to be at the heart of our community and care about the provision we offer all our pupils. From Year 3 to Year 6, each child has the benefit of staff dedicated to encouraging them along the journey of learning and discovery, within the security of a caring atmosphere where all staff in partnership with parents and carers work together. Our link with parents/carers and the wider community is extremely important to us and strengthening these bonds through the development of our community hub and the ongoing activities within the school means we are fully inclusive. Our school has an exciting future ahead – join us on our journey. Oasis Academy Blakenhale Junior is driven by a powerful ethos that aspires to treat everyone inclusively and recognizes the importance of a holistic approach to education. As well as continuing to build a strong school and deliver a first-class education, it is also our desire to build an interconnected community, recognizing that educational needs do not exist in isolation from the needs of the whole person. At Blakenhale Junior we aim to: Create a happy, stimulating, caring learning environment where risk-taking and challenge are encouraged. Awaken and nurture a love of learning that will last a lifetime and provide everyone with the skills to pursue that learning, both independently and collaboratively. Enable everyone to reach the highest standard of which they are capable, academically and in other fields such as sport, arts, and culture. Encourage all learners to develop their interests, passions, enthusiasms, creativity, and individuality. Help learners to understand and care about the world in which they live and to believe in their ability and responsibility to change that world to make it better. Empower learners to develop a strong sense of right and wrong, good and bad, equality and justice. Give them the inner strength to act according to these values. Provide learners with the skills and understanding to live a healthy, successful life, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Foster respect, tolerance, and love for others, regardless of race, gender, religion, or difference, within a framework of equality of opportunity and fairness. Help learners to appreciate human achievements and aspirations and to believe in their potential to attain great things. Promote a feeling of pride and confidence in learners’ identities as individuals, as members of our academy, as part of the local community, and as citizens of the world. Our curriculum focuses on teaching the students to develop the basic skills they need to access learning to become independent, lifelong learners. A strong emphasis is placed on the children learning and applying their acquired skills through a creative and contextualized curriculum. The International Primary Curriculum is the vehicle for the children to be able to develop their skills across the curriculum in enjoyable, real-life contexts as part of their learning journey. At Oasis Academy Blakenhale Junior, we believe that children have a right to expect an irresistible curriculum that is fun, motivating, interesting, and most importantly purposeful. We strive to develop imagination through an International Primary Curriculum (IPC) which is stimulating, creative, and encompasses an environment where every child has the opportunity to shine. The curriculum is the totality of every experience we offer our children during their time in our school. The National Curriculum has three broad aims. It should enable all young people to become: Successful learners, who enjoy learning, make progress, and achieve. Confident individuals who can live safe, healthy, and fulfilling lives, with a sense of self-worth and personal identity and the ability to form good relationships with others. Responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society by valuing and respecting others and the environment and who take an active role in their school and the wider community. 2. Oasis Academy Blakenhale Infants is a co-educational school, which admits children between the ages of 3 and 7 years situated in Garretts Green, Birmingham. Until January 2013 Oasis Academy Blakenhale Infants was called Blakenhale Infant and Nursery School. The original school was built in 1952. Oasis Academy Blakenhale Infants is a rapidly improving school. Our recent re-design of our EYFS building and internal improvements has allowed us to design a school that fits the needs and purposes of our pupils. We have delightful children who are happy, thoughtful and engaged in their learning. We aim to be at the heart of our community and care about the provision we offer all our pupils. From Nursery to Year 2, each child has the benefit of staff dedicated to encouraging them along the journey of learning and discovery, within the security of a caring atmosphere where all staff in partnership with parents and carers work together. Our school has an exciting future ahead – join us on our journey. We believe that at Oasis Academy Blakenhale Infants every single child matters and is valued. We offer equality of opportunity whilst also taking into account individuality. We aim to encourage and support children to enjoy school and to develop the skill of independent learning as part of fostering a culture of life-long growth. We strive to provide an environment in which children are safe, able to achieve, and can therefore achieve their potential. We actively encourage parents, extended family, and community members to work with the academy to support their children. At Oasis Academy Blakenhale Infants we live our Academy Ethos by: Working to ensure that 100% of pupils reach age-related outcomes and many more exceed these. Regularly assessing individual pupil progress and providing tailored intervention where this is not rapid enough. Insisting upon high standards of behavior and effort and supporting these through providing consistency and structure within the academy day. Encouraging every pupil to ‘aim high’ in their career and life expectations through regular discussion of further education opportunities. Providing a variety of cultural experiences for pupils through the provision of external trips and visits and the use of guest speakers at the academy. Ensuring that every staff member is valued as part of the professional academy team. At Oasis Academy Blakenhale Infants our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of our children, with a carefully structured framework in place to ensure that the essential key skills in each subject area are taught and developed. This approach ensures that even our youngest learners begin to develop their tool kit of skills which they can expand as they journey through our academy. Much of our curriculum is taught through topics to make learning experiences more meaningful. These topics are taught using the International Primary Curriculum. Some subjects are taught separately all or some of the time. Subjects may be delivered through a themed week or day or a shorter block, rather than a lesson each week. Throughout the year children will have received a broad and balanced curriculum. There is a whole school focus on providing practical activities, which enable powerful first-hand learning. The curriculum is further enhanced through a range of enrichment activities such as cookery, trips, visitors, specialist workshops, and cultural experiences which promote engagement and enjoyment of learning amongst our children. One of our key enrichment programs is our Sport and PE program. We employ highly trained sports coaches, who support pupils in early physical development (Gross Motor Skills) and fitness in EYFS. This includes developing key skills in a range of sports which are then built upon throughout key stage 1. We also organize whole school enrichment afternoons, which are exciting ways to get our pupils interested in and inspired by the world around them. Building new skills we aim to help our children gain a better understanding of how to be in the wider world. View full school
