    Blair Academy

The quality that truly distinguishes a Blair education is our commitment to knowing our students—and the excellent and caring relationships among faculty and students that result. Those relationships form the cornerstones of our superior academic preparation and make the Blair experience so personally enriching. Our robust and challenging curriculum, rich with opportunities for collaborative, interdisciplinary learning, our distinctive programs for athletes and artists, and our meaningful leadership, travel, and service offerings. Amid all of these outstanding opportunities, the quality that truly distinguishes a Blair education is our commitment to knowing our students—and the unique and caring relationships among faculty and students that result. Those relationships form the cornerstones of our superior academic preparation and make the Blair experience so personally enriching. They set Blair apart as a leader in education. Meaningfully knowing our students offers them a unique and competitive advantage, not just in preparation for college but also for a lifetime of achievement. We invest in discovering and understanding our students’ talents, interests and personalities by taking a multi-tiered approach to academic advising by engaging with students in every aspect of campus life and meeting throughout the year as an entire faculty to review each student’s progress and development. We are thus able to thoughtfully connect our students to the learning opportunities best suited to challenge and inspire them, develop their character, and stretch their abilities. At Blair, we create trust and connections that empower our students to step outside their comfort zones to achieve things they thought were impossible while becoming confident and capable young leaders. This is the Blair advantage. We know our students. Blair teachers are experts in their subject areas, and they know our students exceptionally well. The full faculty meets four times a year to discuss each student’s progress. Faculty members are active in every aspect of student life, and each student is guided by both an assigned academic monitor and an advisor of his or her choosing. Our knowledge of students across contexts results in profoundly impactful relationships and helps teachers expertly guide, mentor, and challenge students in classrooms and beyond. Excellent communication is a top priority. The ability to concisely and compellingly convey one’s message is an essential leadership skill at Blair; teaching the art of effective communication is among our highest priorities. Our cross-curricular communication initiative and myriad public speaking opportunities prepare students to advocate for themselves and engage with others in ways that build vital relationships. As a School, we are committed to communicating purposefully and effectively with parents, students, alumni, and with each other as colleagues. Superior academic preparation inspires a lifetime of learning. Blair’s robust curriculum features rigorous traditional coursework and innovative electives. Spirited class discussion—that often carries over into the dorms and dining hall—hands-on projects and collaborative problem-solving are all features of our academic program. In every classroom, as teachers challenge students with new ideas and skills, they ensure that students learn how to learn, preparing them to confidently and creatively address the demands of college and our ever-changing global society. At Blair, integrity, responsibility, and respect for others shape campus life. With kindness and empathy, our inclusive and dynamic community welcomes people of many backgrounds as we embrace challenges and opportunities, close relationships are forged, and learning on many levels results. Engaging classrooms and learning to lead and work together on athletic teams and in the arts help students become independent and confident adults who eagerly step outside their comfort zones—and who remain connected to the global Blair community for life. Blair students look beyond themselves by engaging in the world around them and serving others. Our traditions of School Meeting, Chapel and Vespers, along with The Blair Leadership Stories Project and conversations on campus, help students develop a strong character and value system as they become global citizens. On-campus speakers, local and international service endeavors, and school break travel opportunities help students apply academic studies to real-world issues, creating impactful connections and experiences. Our knowledge of individual students distinguishes us as a School, and we are well aware that such knowledge is possible only in a community small enough for genuine relationships. Yet, providing a variety of programs and diversity of student experiences requires a particular breadth and scale. At Blair, we believe that being a mid-size residential school allows us to achieve both goals. We are committed to being a “boarding school” and offering our day students a superb educational experience as well. The Blair experience is a personalized one that provides students many opportunities to achieve excellence and to become service-minded leaders and adults of outstanding character. Yet, the Blair experience and diploma are never-ending in themselves: We expect students to attend a college or university that furthers their intellectual and personal development and to achieve worthwhile accomplishments in life. Our foundation of relationship-based learning gives students a competitive advantage as they navigate college and the professional world. View full school

  3. Robert Blair School and Children’s Centre is nestled in the heart of Islington in the vibrant area of the Caledonian Road between Kings Cross and Angel. We have high expectations of the whole school community in terms of progress and achievement, behavior, and engagement to make our children ready for the next stage of their education, and to prepare them to contribute to British society. We work hard to remove barriers to learning. Creativity has a high priority. It is a process that requires both freedom to experiment and the use of skills, knowledge, and understanding. It is a vehicle to develop self-esteem, confidence, and engagement both with the curriculum and with the ever-changing world that our children are living in. Robert Blair Primary School, an inclusive learning community where: Expectations are high Individuals are nurtured Creativity is valued Our key priority this year is to improve teaching to accelerate progress and raise attainment further by making sure that: Pupils have more regular opportunities to read challenging texts and other materials in subjects other than English Activities in reading lessons are always purposeful and support the ongoing development of the full range of pupils’ reading skills We use a topic-based approach to the delivery of the curriculum linking learning and core skills in a way that will capture the children’s interest. Trips are strongly encouraged. It is expected that every class has a school trip once per half term many have much more than that. We are very well placed to access all the potential that London can offer about museums, galleries, and exhibitions. The school also employs specialist sports coaches and an environmental officer. We follow the national curriculum to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of pupils and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of later life. Our themed approach enables whole phase topic enrichment ensuring that key skills in reading, writing, maths science and the arts are taught in a way which motivates and engages the children". The EYFS curriculum is organized into six areas of learning: personal, social, and emotional development communication, language and literacy mathematical development knowledge and understanding of the world physical development, and creative development. At Robert Blair Primary School we have the highest possible expectations for all our children. We aim to provide a happy, caring, and safe environment that stimulates children’s natural curiosity and allows them to develop their skills, knowledge, and understanding. We want children to develop independence, co-operate with others and communicate in a range of situations whilst learning the skills needed to progress through school and future life. Great emphasis and importance are placed on the environment which reflects the EYFS topic each half term and is designed to entice the children to participate in a range of learning activities. We follow the EYFS statutory framework and use ‘Development Matters’ which supports the implementation of the statutory framework by outlining the characteristics of effective learning and how best to promote these in an Early Years setting. Our school embraces the 16 ‘Habits of Mind’ as a way of clarifying educational aspirations and targets for our pupils. They provide a framework and common language for students, to share when discussing and planning for the development of our thinking. Cooking in the Curriculum - Every child has the opportunity to cook at least once a term. Basic Skills - We place a strong emphasis on the development of basic skills – skills that are necessary for lifelong learning. We have ‘non-negotiable’ basic skills that are taught and expected to be applied. Phonics - Children have daily phonics lessons until they are secure in their knowledge. Robert Blair Primary School is committed to meeting the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). We will do our best to make sure that a pupil with SEND gets the support and provision they need.
  4. At Blair Peach Primary School we aim to provide outstanding teaching and learning for all our children. We seek to create an environment that is open, stimulating, safe, and caring. Blair Peach Primary is a place where everyone is valued as an individual, their views and heritage respected, and where children are at the center of all we do. We inspire both academic and personal development by offering all children access to a range of opportunities that challenge and motivate them to become successful, confident, and caring citizens of our diverse and rapidly changing technological world. Governors are appointed or elected for a 4-year term of office. They are a group of people who are responsible for all aspects of our school. They welcome any comments or suggestions and hear any concerns you may have. The governing body has established several committees and statutory panels. Our governing body meets together as a full governing body every half term. The government is providing additional funding to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport and will see money going directly to schools to be spent on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on the provision of PE and sport in schools. We will be held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils' progress and participation in PE and school sport. We are required to publish online information about how we have used the additional funding, including details about our sporting provision alongside curriculum details. This will ensure that parents/carers and others are made fully aware of the PE and sporting provision at Blair Peach Primary school. Our school values aim to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to grow up and develop as citizens of our diverse community and country. Our values also provide a basis for engaging children with British values, which have been by the government as ‘democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. We aim to develop pupils’ engagement with British values in an inclusive way. Our school is enriched by the diversity of different faiths and we want pupils to explore and appreciate the beliefs and values of different religions, and how these core values are shared by different traditions. Blair Peach Primary is a UNICEF Rights Respecting School. Each year the children decide upon their class charter and the rights associated with these. All the children contribute to the drawing up of the charter. Children have many opportunities for their voices to be heard. We have an elected school council that meets regularly to discuss issues raised by pupils in the class. The council has access to a budget and can genuinely effect change within the school. The council members for each year group are voted in by their class. Children have an annual questionnaire with which they can put forward their views about the school. Children are taught about the United Nations Conventions on the Rights of the Child and learn to respect their rights and the rights of others.
