      1. The University of Bialystok was established in 1997 from the Branch of Warsaw University after 29 years of its existence. Today we are one of the largest and strongest academic centers in North-Eastern Poland due to its scientific standards and potential. The University consists of nine faculties, including one located abroad in Vilnius. Classes and lectures are delivered by the app. 850 academic teachers (nearly 200 are independent research scholars). At present the University educates app. 17.000 students in almost 30 fields of study. It offers about 100 different postgraduate courses. The student movement is thriving: there are about 70 student research clubs at the University. Ph.D. degree studies are carried out within five University units: the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Economics and Management, the Faculty of Philology, the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry, and the Faculty of History and Sociology. UwB is entitled to confer 10 university degrees of doctor and 4 postdoctoral degrees (Doktor habilitowany). The region’s unique nature and cultural diversity, which attracts scientific studies, are applied to scientific research carried out at the University. The University cooperates with institutions of higher education abroad within the frames of almost 50 agreements for scientific cooperation in Erasmus+. Thanks to inter-university and international cooperation the UwB students take part in professional internship training abroad. The University has awarded Honoris Causa Doctorate Degree to ten outstanding persons for their immense scientific, social and political achievements: Prof. Brunon Hołyst, Prof. Jerzy Wilkin, President of Poland in Exile - Ryszard Kaczorowski, a founder of Paris “Culture” – Jerzy Giedroyć, Prof. Andrzej Stelmachowski, Prof. Andrzej Wyczański, Orthodox Metropolitan of Warsaw and All Poland - Archbishop Prof. Sawa (Hrycuniak), Prof. Marcel Morabito, Archbishop Metropolitan of Bialystok - Prof. Edward Ozorowski, and Prof. Keiichi Yamanaka. The University of Bialystok is continually developing and improving its facilities to provide the best possible conditions to study and research. It may be proved, inter alia, by the university investments: new lecture hall at the Faculty of Law, new sports hall, the University Computing Centre and educational building for the needs of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics.       2. The Medical University of Bialystok is a renowned, dynamically expanding institution of higher education, distinguished among Polish academic centers. The University staff members offer a high standard of teaching and are an opinion-forming milieu in the region. Among all 784 academic teachers, there are 119 professors and 147 habilitated doctors. This ratio is one of the highest among all Polish universities. University places high in national university rankings. In 2011, the Medical University of Bialystok received two prestigious awards from Perspektywy publishing house and Rzeczpospolita daily newspaper – University with the highest scientific efficiency (rated as number one in Poland) and Kuźnia Kadr 2011 (title awarded to the institution of higher education breeding the best young professionals). For over 65 years now, the University has trained professional medical staff. There are nearly 5,000 students at 14 courses of study, and over 300 of the study in English. The learning opportunities are being constantly enhanced to suit the needs of the continuously developing job market. Our University has two unique courses to offer: Speech Therapy with Phonoaudiology, and Electroradiology(Master’s degree level). The University publishes two academic journals: inscribed on the ISI Master Journal List – Advances in Medical Sciences and rated by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education Progress in Health Sciences. We continually reinforce the advancement of our research and academic staff through numerous scholarships, training programs, internships, and study visits to the best research and academic centers around the world, as well as through expert lectures given by visiting professors from f.e Mayo Clinic, National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Harvard Medical School, University of Pennsylvania. The Medical University of Bialystok Foundation was established by the Rector of the Medical University of Bialystok on 23 September 1996. It is an independent and non-profit organization. The aim of the Foundation is the financial support of research, scientific, and teaching activities conducted by the Medical University. The statutory objectives are accomplished through organizing and financing ventures leading to the development and modernization of the didactic and scientific base, especially those University-wide. Grants are awarded for specific projects and undertakings. The Foundation is not a recipient of any kind of government grants. Financial resources are gained through businesses and services conducted by the Foundation, along with donations from natural and legal persons. The Foundation Board is appointed by the Foundation. Current activities are managed by the Directorate appointed by the Board. The Foundation is supervised by the Minister of Health. Studying at the Medical University of Bialystok is supported by a modern and very well equipped University Library. It is the largest scientific-medical library in the Podlasie region. It was established in 1950 along with the University. The Library provides various services and training, and also functions as a medical science information center. Its resources are mainly used by students, postgraduates, research and academic staff, as well as, health professionals from the region and scientific institutions from outside the region. Currently, the Library’s collection consists of nearly 130 000 books, over 50 000 journals, and 8 000 inventory units from special collections. Apart from the printed resources, the Library provides access to many bibliographic and full-text databases, including 15 000 electronic journals. The academic staff and students use the e-sources not only via the academic network but also from their computers at home, which allows for 24h access to scientific literature. Detailed information about the library's resources is available in electronic catalogs. The Library users can remotely reserve titles to rent and also monitor their account status via the ALEPH remote library system. Printed, as well as digital resources, are available for use in two stylish reading rooms, equipped with computers and wireless Internet connection. Apart from its fundamental services, the Library organizes lectures promoting a healthy lifestyle and also presents paintings by Polish artists working, both, in the country and abroad, within the exhibition series called Art in the Library. Originally established in 1949 as a Private Evening Engineering College with the departments of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and nationalised in 1951, Bialystok University of Technology (BUT) finally acquired its university status in 1974. Bialystok University of Technology is a public institution of higher education subordinate to the Polish Minister of Science and Higher Education. Located in Bialystok BUT is the largest university of its kind in the north-eastern region of Poland. We are a modern, dynamically developing institution with 65-year-old experience in educating scientists and technologists. At present there are nearly 12 thousand students studying at Bialystok University of Technology in its 7 faculties: Faculty of Architecture Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty of Electrical Engineering Faculty of Computer Science Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Faculty of Management Faculty of Forestry in Hajnówka The education process involves three cycles or degrees in full-time and part-time modes according to the Bologna Declaration directive. To meet the expectations of both our students and modern market economy BUT offers 27 first and 19 second degree courses. Additionally, the graduates as well as other people wishing to continue their education will find a rich variety of postgraduate courses. Bialystok University of Technology has full rights to confer doctoral (PhD) degrees in ten scientific disciplines, i.e. architecture and urban planning, biocybernetics and biomedical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, electronics, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, environmental protection and development, machine design and maintenance, mechanics. Furthermore, BUT has been granted permission to confer post-doctoral (DSc) degrees in five scientific disciplines, such as civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, machine design and maintenance, mechanics. Bialystok University of Technology cooperates with 37 academic centres across the world within the framework of bilateral scientific agreements (currently 89). Our university staff have been taking part in both national and international scientific research and didactic programmes. The co-operation has resulted in a large number of doctoral and post-doctoral dissertations, study exchange programmes and scholarships. BUT also participates in Erasmus + Programme (113 current agreements). We provide administrative assistance for foreign students and visitors who come to BUT. Our University signed double-degree programme agreements with University of Cordoba (Spain), University of Beira Interior (Portugal) and Universite de Valenciennes et du Hainaut-Cambresis (France). Through these agreements, the students of the Faculties of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Protection Engineering and Management will be able to obtain two professional titles: one in Poland, conferred by BUT and the other one abroad. The double degree agreements are the result of many years of very successful collaboration within student and teacher exchange programmes between BUT and other universities abroad. Our University has been organizing and co-organizing national and international scientific conferences, seminars, debates and promotional events such as Podlasie Science and Art Festival, Bialystok School Leavers’ Educational Fair, Job Fair and Open Days. BUT also has its own magazine „Technical University Life”, „Akadera” Radio Station and PlatonTV – Interactive Scientific HDTV. Both students and university staff have access to well-developed laboratory facilities. Fully computerized BUT Library is one of the largest science and technology libraries in the north-eastern region of Poland. The campus is beautifully situated near the city park and within easy reach of the city centre. There are sporting facilities such as a modern sports hall, gyms, tennis courts as well as student clubs. Professionally equipped and being able to house over 600 people, BUT’s Auditorium Maximum is a perfect conference centre. Student Residence Halls provide reasonably priced and good standard accommodation with Internet access for over 2 000 students.
