Planning has been undertaken to develop a coherent, broad, and balanced 11-19 curriculum that inspires and challenges our students. The curriculum enables the vast majority of students to study subjects from the academic core as well as subjects from the Performing Arts, Art, Design and Technology, Business and Computing. With approximately 500 students, The Arthur Terry Sixth Form is the West Midlands’ largest school-based sixth form. Arthur Terry Sixth Form is the normal progression route for the majority of our returning Year 11 students and it also offers places to joining students from over 40 different secondary schools. At Arthur Terry School, students will have a timetabled opportunity to become fully involved in a high-quality enrichment program. Over the 2 year program of study students will work towards achieving the Arthur Terry Award which will recognize their commitment to participating in activities that go above and beyond A level academic study. The enrichment program will encompass additional qualifications such as the Extended Project Qualification, Core Maths, and AS Further Maths which will enable students to further strengthen their applications to university and higher apprenticeships. Together with these curriculum options, students will also have the opportunity to participate in a personalized enrichment program. Drama and music have a particularly high profile in the school with sixth-form students regularly taking leading performing and producing roles. Students can pursue sporting interests and complete the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme up to Gold. Students are encouraged to take responsibility within school working alongside linked lower school tutor groups and offering in-class support within their subject specialisms. Students willingly volunteer to support school charity events, parents’ evenings, open evenings, induction days as well as a host of external volunteering opportunities. Support for students lower down the school is central to the role of an Arthur Terry sixth-former through the tutoring program, academic mentoring, and sports leadership opportunities. Students experience daily morning tutor activities, tailored to the sixth form needs covering a range of issues and themes including effective and timely revision, managing stress, safe driving, applying to university, and finance to name but a few. The mission of Arthur Morgan School is to provide a safe and loving environment where students in grades 7, 8, and 9 learn to question and evaluate, think creatively and work independently and cooperatively while sharing in a community that honors simplicity, respect, responsibility, and thoughtful consideration. The vision of Arthur Morgan School is to empower our students to make courageous choices that may create global change by developing awareness of our impact on social and ecological life. Arthur Morgan School was founded by Elizabeth and Ernest Morgan in 1962 to provide a learning environment tailored for children in their early teenage years. Ernest Morgan was the elder son of Arthur Morgan. Arthur and his wife Lucy had cherished the idea of starting a small school in a rural setting that fostered initiative, responsibility, and imagination. Many educators influenced Elizabeth Morgan to form their philosophy of education, including Johann Pestalozzi, N.S.F. Grundtvig, Mahatma Gandhi, Maria Montessori, John Dewey, and Arthur Morgan. These great educators' philosophies and methods emphasize the development of the whole person through a combination of study, work, and social interaction in a community. As leaders in progressive education, they each valued practical education as a significant experience for men and women to be enlightened. Also, they stress inner motivation and the individual's responsibility as a part of the whole. To these ideas, Elizabeth her Quaker values of simple living, consensus decision-making, and non-violent problem-solving. Both Elizabeth and Ernest Morgan were very active in many causes. Elizabeth collected workers' songs from all over the world and educated people about suppression and exploitation. She had been active in the struggle against the Ku Klux Klan persecutions and racist assaults in Georgia. She arranged protest marches and helped the strikers in their attempt at getting better pay and fair treatment. In most cases, she used music and song to arouse people's solidarity and inform them of both traditions and visions. Early in their marriage, both Elizabeth and Ernest had joined the Society of Friends or Quakers. They felt that the Quaker way of silent worship, social justice, resistance to the military and violence, and equality for all people, especially women, were very consistent with their views.
