  1. The UA system's three universities (UAA, UAF, and UAS) are separately accredited institutions with extended community campuses and learning centers across the state of Alaska. System-wide, nearly 31,000 full- and part-time students are enrolled, studying among 400 unique degrees, certificate, or endorsement programs. Study areas include short-course workforce training, associate degrees, bachelor's and master's degrees, and doctorates. Programs include a wide array of sciences, engineering, teacher and early childhood education, business, journalism and communications, aviation, health occupations, history, English, the arts and humanities, and many others. All three university centers also deliver extensive e-Learning instruction anywhere students are located. UA Statewide provides system-wide support for all university operations and enables each regional university center to meet the University of Alaska's mission and each institutional mission. In addition to providing system leadership, governance, and strategic vision, Statewide functions include compliance, accountability, coordination, service, management of external relationships, and stewardship of shared strategic resources. Per the Alaska Constitution, an 11-member board of regents governs the system. The system president serves as the board's chief executive officer. Chancellors for each of the universities—UAA, UAF, and UAS—report to the president. The university employs roughly 7,000 people and contributes an estimated $1 billion annually to the Alaska economy. Attending the University of Alaska is possible, whether you're a recent high school graduate, are looking to return to college to enter a new career, or are planning to finish a degree for personal or professional growth. A significant concern for all students is, "How am I going to pay for this?" The campus financial aid offices can assist students in applying for education funding. There are many federal, state, and private resources available through the university to help pay for education, and there's a helpful financial aid staff that can assist you in determining which alternative will be the best choice for you. Also, the University of Alaska Foundation offers more than $3 million in scholarship awards annually, making higher education possible for any student who seeks it. Do not let distance or a crazy work schedule get in the way of your education. Online college degrees and education programs allow you to work around a busy life from anywhere in the world and still get a high-quality education. Whether you want to complete your degree, make yourself more marketable, or sharpen a few skills, we can help you achieve your goal. The three main campuses of the University of Alaska System provide undergraduate and graduate degrees, certificates, occupational endorsements, and courses, which may be completed entirely online or in blended formats. Alaska presents a formidable landscape for a university system: a landmass one-fifth the continental United States campuses' size thousands of miles apart and weather that would shut down most Lower 48 schools. But this vast environment of the rainforest, tundra, coastal shores, and mountains is home to the University of Alaska system, established in 1917. The university system started as the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines in Fairbanks, later renamed the University of Alaska. That first year, the campus was a single two-story frame building and had just six students. The school was renamed the University of Alaska in 1935. In 1954, Anchorage Community College (now known as the University of Alaska Anchorage) was incorporated into the University of Alaska. That next year, Juneau Community College was established and was later named the University of Alaska Southeast. The University of Alaska is a land-, sea- and space-grant system. UA acquired land through acts of Congress in 1915 and 1929 and land settlements with the State of Alaska in the 1980s. In addition to the annual federal appropriations land-grant institutions receive for research and extension work, UA develops, leases, and sells land, the proceeds of which are used for numerous natural resources-related research and academic projects, including the UA Scholars scholarship program. 2. The University of Alaska Southeast offers opportunities to grow and learn in a supportive and intimate learning community amidst unparalleled natural beauty. Cutting-edge undergraduate research makes the most of our spectacular setting in the Tongass National Forest. No matter what career path you choose, UAS is designed to strengthen your problem-solving skills, enhance your ability to communicate effectively, and teach you how to work collaboratively – all things employers want. Small class sizes ensure a rich educational experience with top-notch faculty who choose to live and work in a place where dramatic natural vistas inspire scientific and creative pursuits. Give yourself an advantage as a global-ready graduate by gaining a broader understanding of the world and yourself. Through the national and international study-away programs, hundreds of universities and site options are available to all eligible students for a semester or full year. Students interested in studying away need to be willing to embrace the unknown, be flexible with change, and willing to try new things. Those who do are forever changed. Students return with more self-confidence and intellectual and social competencies, a grander appreciation of the world, and new skills and knowledge for professional success. UAS academic advisors empower students to meet academic, life, and career goals through a personalized, collaborative, and reflective process. The advising partnership connects students to faculty, campus, and community resources, online and face-to-face. At the University of Alaska Southeast, providing equal opportunities for students who experience disabilities is a campus-wide responsibility and commitment. We work together with faculty and students to identify individual needs and how to accommodate those needs best. Academic services constitute an integral component of equalizing the post-secondary environment for students who experience disabilities. Disability Services (DS) is responsible for coordinating services for UAS students who experience disabilities. DS Also serves as a resource providing information to the campus community. DS Staff can provide further information about the services available. When barriers do arise, Disability Services assist in the identification of reasonable adjustments. DS can provide details about services and accommodations that are available to qualified students with appropriate documentation. Early planning is encouraged and necessary to allow DS staff adequate time to arrange for services. It is the student's responsibility to initiate contact with and provide the appropriate disability documentation to DS. View full university

The University of Alaska Anchorage traces its origins back to 1954 when Anchorage Community College (ACC) was founded. That year, ACC began offering evening classes to 414 students at Elmendorf Air Force Base—the first time that college-level courses were offered in the Anchorage area. In 1962, ACC and other community colleges around the state were incorporated into the University of Alaska statewide system. Five years later, ACC began offering both day and evening classes at the current campus location. ACC provided academic study for associate degrees, the first two years of work toward baccalaureate degrees, and a wide variety of adult learning, career, and continuing education programs. In the late 1960s, a strong interest in establishing a four-year university in Anchorage brought about the University of Alaska, Anchorage Senior College (ASC). While ACC administered the lower division college, ASC administered upper-division and graduate programs leading to baccalaureate and master's degrees and continuing education for professional programs. In 1971, the first commencement was held at Anchorage's West High School, where 265 master's, baccalaureate, and associate degrees were awarded. ASC moved to the Consortium Library Building in 1973. The following year, when the first classroom and office facility was completed, daytime courses were offered for the first time. In 1977, ASC became a four-year university and was renamed the University of Alaska, Anchorage (UA, A). Ten years later, ACC and UA, A merged to become what is now known as the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA). Today, some 20,000 students attend UAA, a growing and expanding university of the first choice. More than 200 programs, ranging from certificate programs to associate, baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral degrees, are offered at the Anchorage, community campuses, and extension centers throughout Southcentral Alaska. Nestled in the center of beautiful Palmer, Alaska, and surrounded by mountain landscapes second to none in the world, you will daily be encouraged to worship the God who loves you and longs for you to live intimately with Him. We are the only accredited four-year Bible college in Alaska! So, if you choose to join our adventure in Alaska, you will receive a high-quality biblical, theological and ministry-based education that will prepare you to serve the Lord with integrity for the rest of your life. You will also join a long list of servant-leaders who, after being trained with Christ-like character at ABC are leading with integrity in full-time ministry on the mission field, in the local church, or in the vocation that God has provided. Alaska Bible College is committed to providing students, their families, and the campus community full disclosure of all consumer information required by state and federal regulations. The laws are intended to satisfy students’ right to know and allow students to make fully informed choices regarding the institution they elect to attend. Alaska Bible College extends a warm welcome to prospective students who meet admission qualifications and seek to strengthen their Christian walk and prepare for ministry.ABC selects students based on academic ability, moral character, and a strong desire to study God’s Word. ABC does not discriminate based on age, race, gender, or ethnic background. The ABC library has approximately 30,000 volumes, including the most significant theological collection in Alaska. The library also contains curriculum materials, media resources, computers for student use, a children’s library, and several reading and study areas. The library subscribes to many Christian magazines and periodicals. A selection of visual aid material is available for student ministries. ABC’s Wilderness Campus, located in Glennallen, houses an extension library on the second floor of Joy Hall. A “modular” class condenses an entire college semester into a single, intensive week of on-campus study. Classes meet each day of the week for the full day (morning and afternoon). Before arriving on campus, students read the class textbook and submit a written summary and interaction. After the week on campus, students return home and complete a final project. Students receive a grade for the class upon completion of the final project. College credit counts towards a degree at Alaska Bible College and can be transferred to other schools. The audit does not count towards a degree and can not be transferred, though students participate fully in all class activities. Audit students are not required to turn in the assignments and do not receive a grade. Enrollment precedence is given to students taking the class for college credit. Housing and meals are optional, and students are free to make their arrangements if desired. Grocery stores and affordable dining are available within walking distance. Housing is in the form of a shared room in ABC’s dorm, four blocks from the classroom building. Lunches are available for through ABC as part of the housing package, or for separate purchase. A full kitchen is provided in the dorm for breakfast and dinner preparations. Our fellowship with God is not measured by how much we know, but by how much we love! So at Alaska Bible College, our investment in students goes well beyond academics. In the context of a caring community, our students can expect to find a vibrant blend of social outlets & service opportunities designed to foster healthy, life-long relationships. Whether in the classroom or the wilderness, ABC is not just an education but also a place to belong. During the academic year, various social activities are scheduled. These may include banquets, outdoor recreation, free game times, service projects, dorm outings, community programs, and annual all-school retreats. Our inclusive culture is sure to make you feel welcome in the far north. We firmly believe that your experience outside the classroom contributes to your overall enrichment. Students are encouraged to explore the surrounding area and embrace all Alaska has to offer.

Capitalizing on its location, UAA is developing solutions to challenges caused by the dynamically changing Arctic environment as it impacts current and future ecosystems and villages. These include models to forecast future erosion rates and shoreline change. Road tests are underway to test a suitable concrete mixture for Arctic roads that is flexible and maintains its strength in extreme cold. Work in Antarctica studies the impact of environmental conditions on the physiology and behavior of polar marine mammals. Universities are a vital source for new technology critical to the United States, maintaining its lead in innovation and economic development. UAA's patent portfolio has dramatically increased since FY11, including the launch of startup companies — one was awarded a "Best University Startup" in a national competition. To encourage innovation, UAA established the "Patent Wall of Fame," and organized and hosted the first World IP Day in Alaska.
