      1. There are places in this world where you are destined to discover who you indeed are. Here at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, as wisdom passes from one generation to the next, revolutionary ideas are thriving, and a new academic culture is taking shape. Smarter questions. Better answers. With undergraduates making up 89 percent of the total student body, UAF is a hotbed of diversity and fresh thinking. Whether you are returning to school to start a new phase of your life or coming in as a recent high school graduate, you will quickly make new friends with a similar drive to achieve. Because our backyard is the vast environmental laboratory of Alaska, UAF attracts exceptional individuals — academic superstars and adventure-seekers alike. With seven campuses across the state, we are home to more than 8,500 students from all over the world — each in pursuit of something extraordinary. Whether you are looking for a greater sense of purpose or a real sense of belonging, the UAF community lives authentically, believing that life is what you make of it, that knowledge is indeed power, and that a natural curiosity about the world around you will always be your best GPS. The University of Alaska Fairbanks is a Land, Sea, and Space Grant university and an international center for research, education, and the arts, emphasizing the circumpolar North and its diverse peoples. UAF integrates teaching, research, and public service to educate students for active citizenship and prepare them for lifelong learning and careers. Whether Alaska is home or a new beginning, a UAF degree offers the ultimate opportunity: a chance to make a living doing what you love. So choose the path that intrigues you -- you never know where it might lead. You have got skills to master, records to set, and discoveries to make. Here, you will forge friendships to last a lifetime and ideas to change the world. We believe extraordinary people do not live ordinary lives. We invite you to explore the possibilities of the Last Frontier -- where inspiration is around every bend, independence is championed, and adventure is inevitable. UAF Disability Services provides accommodations to students on the Fairbanks campus and the Bristol Bay, Chukchi, Interior Alaska, Kuskokwim, Northwest, Community, and Technical College (CTC), UAF eLearning & Distance Education, and College of Rural and Community Development (CRCD) campuses. UAF eLearning and Distance Education offers more than 350 courses in 60 disciplines and offers degrees and certificates entirely online. Our online degree and certificate programs cover fields from medical coding and reception to information technology. With so many degree programs to choose from, and with the flexibility of online courses, UAF's eLearning courses are a great way to begin or further your educational and professional career. The Honors Program assists high-achieving and motivated students in making the absolute most of their undergraduate education. But it is about more than being smart. It is about being bold, pushing your intellect, and pursuing educational opportunities. It is exploring new places -- in mind and the world. It is your home away from home, academically and socially, where you share small classes and rigorous thinking with student-scholars as inquisitive as you. The Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Activity office exists to support, develop, and institutionalize UAF's diverse and robust undergraduate research and creative scholarship programs. If you want to explore the world, UAF can help. Whether you attend a university in another state or another country, your credits will count toward your UAF degree program. Participation in National Student Exchange and international exchange/study abroad programs will start you on your unforgettable adventure. Summer Sessions offers many courses, credit and noncredit, meeting morning through evening, weekdays, and weekends from May to August. Complete a course for your degree or investigate a topic of interest. Various sessions create the option for flexible scheduling for summer students. Twelve-week, six-week, and two-week sessions, plus short courses with varying dates and lengths, create the opportunity to design a schedule that works best for you. The UA Scholars Program encourages Alaska's high school graduates to get their advanced education in Alaska. The UA Scholars Award is a $12,000 scholarship that can cover eligible expenses such as undergraduate tuition, fees, room, board, books, supplies, and other educational costs associated with going to a UA school. UAF has various media outlets to keep students and staff informed and entertained and offer volunteering opportunities. Students produce the weekly Sun Star newspaper and run KSUA, the campus radio station, and winner of the MTV Woodie Award. Public broadcasting stations KUAC FM and TV, the first public stations in the state, are headquartered at UAF. With more than 100 student organizations and clubs, there is something for everyone. Go green with our nationally acclaimed sustainability program, become a DJ, practice karate, or cook up something in culinary arts. The Wood Center student union houses student dining, a coffee shop, lounges, a pub, a games area, a bowling alley, the student government, newspaper, and offices for student activities, clubs, and leadership, and more.
