  1. Nestled in the serene setting of beautiful countryside, Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Islamabad, is recognized as a preeminent federal public university devoted to higher education in specific disciplines of engineering, natural sciences, and formal sciences. Although PIEAS offers BS, MS, MPhil, and Ph.D. degree programs, yet the postgraduate degree programs dominate. In addition to the degree programs, PIEAS also offers specialized short courses to engineers, scientists, and other professionals for their continuing professional development. PIEAS' highly qualified faculty matched with excellent infrastructure are instrumental in its endeavor to offer high-quality education in the disciplines of engineering and applied sciences, fulfill national and regional requirements for highly qualified professionals, and contribute to the welfare of humanity through education, research, and development. The Institute has been ranked No. 1 for Engineering & Technology by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan, in all the three rankings (2006, 2012, 2013) conducted so far. Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) strives for excellence in teaching, research, and application of research to support the socio-economic development and welfare of mankind. Established in the year 2000, PIEAS was ranked to be No.1 engineering university of the country in the first-ever ranking of Pakistani universities carried out by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in the year 2006. The institution has maintained its position as No. 1 engineering university in HEC’s second and third rankings organized in 2010 and 2013, respectively. In the year 2014, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rankings declared PIEAS to be the No. 1 University in Pakistan and at 106th position in Asia. This is the best position that any Pakistani university has won in QS Asian University Rankings, so far. PIEAS offers MS/MPhil and Ph.D. studies in thirteen disciplines of engineering, medicine, and applied sciences. It also offers BS degree programs in electrical and mechanical engineering. The university has 137 full-time faculty members, the majority of whom have Ph.D. degrees from the reputed institutions of the developed countries. Excellent laboratories and computational facilities are available for the training and research projects of the students. The majority of the students live in hostels at the campus, although commuting facilities are also available. The performance of PIEAS graduates has been outstanding. Sixty-seven (67) graduates have already been decorated with Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Pride of Performance, and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for their outstanding contributions to national technical developments. Admission to the degree programs at PIEAS is based on merit alone and there is no quota of any sort. In MS and Ph.D. degree programs, the majority of the students can get scholarships/fellowships. The environment at PIEAS is informal and highly conducive for higher studies. After successful completion of studies, the job is almost guaranteed. For students seeking excellence in higher education, PIEAS is a paradise. It is the vision of PIEAS to be recognized at the national and international level as an Institute of academic excellence with high moral and ethical values, providing synergy between scientific research and technological development for national security and socio-economic benefits, encouraging and fostering an environment of mutual respect and the free exchange of thoughts, where lack of resources on part of deserving students does not impede acquiring quality education. PIEAS is committed to excellence in science and engineering education. We seek to impart education in fields that are essential for the technological development of Pakistan and, in particular, to play a pioneering role in fostering the establishment of educational programs in newly emerging technological fields in the country. We accord the highest priority to meeting the current and future trained manpower needs of PAEC and other technical organizations. We aim to provide a learning environment that fully stimulates the students' intellectual capabilities and also nurtures their personal development as future technological leaders. We are committed to ensuring the highest quality in all our endeavors, encompassing teaching, research, skills, and developmental activities through an effective overarching quality enhancement framework. PIEAS, today is a multi-faceted educational institution, with academic and training programs being conducted at the highest level in a broad spectrum of disciplines. These are complemented by an active R&D program, which now also extends to working on industry-related projects. In this context, several products of industrial use, like PC-controlled drill machines, PC-controlled milling machines, and robotic manipulators have been developed. Specialized systems for educational purposes such as PC-controlled multi-variable tanks have also been supplied to various institutions. Currently, there are more than 100 doctoral candidates registered in the Ph.D. program in Nuclear Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, Nuclear Medicine, and Computer Science.
