St. Luke's School is a secular private school in New Canaan, CT, for grades 5 through 12, serving 25 towns in Connecticut and New York. Our exceptional academics and diverse co-educational community foster students' intellectual and ethical development and prepare them for top colleges. St. Luke's Center for Leadership builds the commitment to serve and the confidence to lead.
At St. Luke's, rigorous academics are embedded in a curriculum that challenges students to stretch and reach intellectually and encourages study with a heart and purpose. To inspire a deep, life-long love of learning that is central to St. Luke's mission and to develop resilient, globally-minded, socially responsible citizens, our curriculum, ethos, and environment are designed to foster the following "thinking" dispositions, also known as St. Luke's Community Goals for Learning.
Where will a St. Luke's education take you? Above and Beyond what you ever thought possible. Our inclusive community will inspire you to reach higher, work harder, and make a difference in the world. From Scholars programs to community service, AP Calculus to weekly college counseling sessions, St. Luke's provides endless opportunities to dive in and take the initiative. Backed by caring teachers, advisors, and peers, you'll find there's no limit to where you'll go or what you'll do.
Online learning is an extraordinary way to learn and share knowledge. Our goal is to enhance the traditional face-to-face curriculum with a spectrum of online options—from web-facilitated to fully online courses. At every grade level, students experience Web-facilitated courses. 100% of our teachers use some form of digital syllabus, assignments, and class management system. These traditional classes offer students opportunities to connect with class material, the teacher, and content online while doing most classwork in a traditional face-to-face manner.
St. Luke's Blended courses deliver a significant portion of the course online while maintaining traditional face-to-face techniques. Teachers in the Upper and Middle schools are "flipping" specific lessons or entire courses using blended learning. Teachers produce online lectures, webinars, and podcasts that students access at their own pace and location. Class time is spent doing—working with the teacher and classmates on collaborative activities that reinforce concept mastery. St. Luke's Upper School offers fully-online courses. Most of the content is delivered online, and most interaction with teachers is also web-based.
St. Luke's mission is an exceptional education that inspires a deep love of learning, a strong moral compass, the commitment to serve, and the confidence to lead. St. Luke's Center for Leadership advances our mission by helping students develop exceptional leadership abilities. Many students complete their formal education without ever learning leadership skills. St. Luke's students begin learning leadership in 5th grade. As they move through school, students become clear and persuasive communicators; they learn that collaboration with diverse individuals yields powerful results, creativity trumps most challenges, and service offers us purpose and satisfaction.
Exceptional leaders understand the essential value of diversity and inclusion. They surround themselves with people of varying beliefs, backgrounds, and skillsets to benefit from a broad base of experiences. St. Luke's strives to deepen students' understanding of differences in race, ethnicity, gender, ability, religion, sexual orientation, age, and socioeconomic status. We foster empathy and respect for all. The goal is not the tolerance of differences, but a celebration of each of us is unique and varied contributions to this community.
Inclusive excellence leverages diversity (experience, perspectives, race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, gender or gender expression, ability, etc.) to provide the foundation for educational and institutional excellence. An inclusive community attracts and retains a broad and deep talent pool of prospective students, teachers, and trustees. St. Luke's advances its mission by fostering an inclusive learning environment where students and adults develop as well-balanced, confident leaders who can succeed in a diverse, globally integrated world.
