Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy provide its diverse student body a Catholic and internationally recognized college-preparatory experience of lasting value. We affirm our Marist mission to "Work with God to form Christian People, Upright Citizens, and Academic Scholars."
At Notre Dame, our goal is to create a safe learning environment where students can become the best versions of themselves both academically and spiritually. We also offer world-ranked robotics teams, an exemplary athletic program, and a burgeoning performing and visual arts program. In short, we strive to create well-balanced students prepared for life.
If you choose Notre Dame for your child's education, you are choosing a widely regarded school as one of the top Catholic schools in the nation. Notre Dame is the first Catholic school in the United States and the only Catholic school in Michigan to offer the prestigious International Baccalaureate Programme (IB) from junior kindergarten through 12th grade. Notre Dame is also a school that welcomes students of all backgrounds and faiths, as a diverse student body can create a much stronger sense of who we are as individuals and citizens of our world.
When you choose Notre Dame, you are choosing to join a community of like-minded parents. Parents who believe that faith is an essential aspect of a child's development, and parents want their children's best. This helps to create a culture where it is "cool to be smart."
While our academic reputation is second to none, parents must realize that your children do not have to be "all-A" students to fit in at Notre Dame. In addition to our honors, advanced placement (AP), and IB tracks, we offer a traditional academic track that also works well for many students.
In March of 2017, we announced a 26,000 sq. ft. science arts and technology wing that will include eight classrooms, three science labs, two art studios, and a greenhouse. We believe that this investment into our students' academic experience will further cement Notre Dame as a leader among private, independent Catholic schools in the Midwest.
Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy recognize that the principles of the Gospel and the Church's teaching are the educational norms upon which the Catholic school rests. We are to understand and witness the Christian Good News of humanity's redemption by the salvific work of Jesus Christ. The religious dimension of a young person's growth must be addressed in this Catholic Tradition context. Thus, Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy assume the responsibility of developing a Christian conscience through an understanding and appreciation of Catholic doctrine, traditions, and practices. Catholic education views the student as a person redeemed by Christ and having a supernatural destiny. Therefore, Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy strive to create an atmosphere where the student's faith can grow and provide means and opportunities for participation in faith experiences.
"It is God's children that are entrusted to us, and so it is towards God that we have to return their hearts by our constant efforts to provide them with sound rules for their guidance and examples lived in a manner consonant with them… We shall therefore work in the first place at giving them sufficient knowledge of their faith, at stirring their wills to the accomplishment of duty through motives of conscience and the power of religion."
Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy believe it is essential for students to understand the great gift and great responsibility we have as citizens of the United States. We believe that we are increasingly part of a global society. It is essential to growing in the knowledge of and concern for all people and all of God's creation. Because of these beliefs, opportunities are offered to help the student understand the responsibility of leadership in a democratic society, exercise the rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution, and respect all individuals' dignity regardless of race, creed, sex, national or ethnic origin. Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy honor parents' right to educate their children in the schools of their choice.
"Notre Dame believes that teaching students to advocate for justice is essential to their development as Christian Persons, Upright Citizens, and Academic Scholars. We believe members of our community should work to eliminate prejudice and be a voice for those pushed to society's fringes on the local, national, and global levels. Therefore, Notre Dame challenges our community members to battle discrimination against any person or group, including, but not limited to, discrimination based on age, creed, gender, race, national or ethnic origin, socio-economic status, or religion."
