Many people describe their high school years as some of the best years of their lives. It's a time for learning, for friendships, for fun. It's also a time when you begin to prepare yourself for a lifetime of Christian service. That means that your choice of a high school will affect you not only for the next four years, but it will help to set the direction for your entire adult life.

Luther Prep offers many things that Christian young people and their parents value. At LPS all of our teachers, dormitory staff, and students share your faith in Christ and your trust in the Word of God. All classes are taught from a Christ-centered perspective. The curriculum is a solid college preparatory curriculum with an emphasis on religion, English, history, science, math, and music. The courses are designed especially to prepare students for Martin Luther College, but they also equip students to attend any college of their choice.

With the guidance and help of the Holy Spirit, this school will strive:

    • To proclaim, teach, and apply faithfully the Word of God in all courses of instruction and all other areas of campus life, in keeping with the Holy Scriptures and the teachings of the Lutheran Confessions
    • To promote continuing spiritual growth and faithful Christian discipleship among all members of our campus family through the use of the means of grace
    • To provide a challenging academic course of study in religion, languages, history, science, mathematics, and the arts, to prepare students for continuing their preparation for full-time ministry
    • To enable all students to develop their God-given talents by providing them with a wide range of opportunities in the areas of music, forensics, drama, athletics, social life, and Christian service
    • To promote the high calling of the public ministry through the continuing recruitment and retention of qualified students and a positive image of the ministry among faculty members
    • To deal lovingly and evangelically with each student as a redeemed child of God, offering counseling, encouragement, and loving Christian discipline
    • To regard seriously the great trust that parents have placed in the school and to deal with all of our students in a way that reflects our role as caretakers and parental representatives.

Luther Preparatory School is a four-year secondary school owned and operated by the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. It offers a challenging college preparatory curriculum in grades 9-12 to students who are considering the full-time pastoral or teaching ministry as their life’s work.

Luther Preparatory School is the oldest Lutheran high school in the United States. It traces its history to its founding on this campus in 1865 as the prep department of Northwestern College. The prep department was given its own identity in 1974 as Northwestern Preparatory School. Luther Prep today is the result of a merger of Northwestern Preparatory School of Watertown, Wisconsin, and Martin Luther Preparatory School of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Martin Luther Preparatory School had been established in 1979 when Martin Luther Academy was moved from its original home on the campus of Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota, and when Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, South Dakota, was closed.

Luther Preparatory School is the successor school to those prep schools which have preceded it and can readily claim the heritage and history of these schools as its own.
