Sacred Heart Catholic School is a vibrant and dynamic school with high expectations and great ambitions for every one of our pupils. We believe that discipline, structure, and common purpose are solid foundations for success in life and education, and we understand the value of professionalism and innovation in everything we do.

We are a Catholic school with very strong moral values and a traditional approach to behavior and discipline our pupils to understand their rights and responsibilities, respect rules and boundaries, and learn to live in honesty and trust.

Sacred Heart School consistently achieves outstanding academic results, way above local and national averages in every subject area. For example, in 2014, we became the first state school in Southwark to reach the landmark figure of 90% A*-C including English and Maths. The new measure for Progress 8, a more comprehensive measure of school success, places us firmly as one of the very top-performing schools in the country. Our relatively new Sixth Form has quickly followed suit and we have already sent many students to top universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, and many other members of the Russell Group. We fully expect to maintain the same high standards of academic success at A-Level in the coming years that we have reached GCSE.

We also have an exceptional record of helping our pupils to achieve more than they think is possible. Sacred Heart has consistently been in the top 2% of the country for adding value to pupils’ education at both Key Stage 3 and 4.

As well as outstanding academic outcomes Sacred Heart prides itself on educating the whole child. Academic results will only go so far and we insist on a comprehensive program of moral education, teaching good manners, respect, and a determination to show our pupils that Gospel values are to be lived by, especially when it comes to looking after and caring for those less fortunate.

Our Vision: "As a school dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we work to bring one another to an awareness of the fullness and meaning of life, rooted in the love of Jesus".

Mission Statement: "Our school strives to be a Catholic community in which Christian principles of care and respect are valued, with emphasis on the development of the individual through academic achievement and personal development".

To achieve our vision we will:

    • Recognize and treasure the unique gifts of each pupil and do all that we can to allow these to develop and flourish.
    • Provide the highest possible quality of education where each child is challenged to pursue the highest standards in spiritual, moral, cultural, intellectual, and physical development in an environment of academic endeavor and personal discipline.
    • Create a welcoming community of faith that witnesses to the teachings of the gospel and fosters strong bonds of love within the community we serve.
    • Form our pupils in the attitudes of the heart of Jesus expressed in respect, compassion, forgiveness, and generosity.

Learning at Sacred Heart is interactive, engaging, and relevant to the real world. Our pupils have a strong grounding in traditional core academic subjects (English, Maths, Science, and RE) from Year 7 onwards, providing a positive platform for achievement in other areas. They learn how to prepare, organize and motivate themselves for work each day, and we support them at every stage of their school career. We want them to be excited by their learning, to recognize its importance, and to be proud of their achievements in every discipline.

Sacred Heart has long bathed in the light of outstanding GCSE results and, since the establishment of our Sixth Form, we now have excellent A-Level grades to celebrate too.

Our traditional approach and very strong moral values have been carried forward into our Sixth Form as we prepare our young adults for places at the country’s top universities, including offers already in our first few years of operation from Oxford, Cambridge, and many other Russell Group universities.

Our curriculum is wide-ranging and proactive, designed to meet the needs of everyone’s abilities, interests, and aspirations for the future. Our pupils learn to think for themselves and we encourage them to become independent learners who ask good questions, think creatively, and solve problems with confidence. By the time our pupils leave school, we want them to be self-disciplined and focused young people who are determined to succeed in whatever career they choose to pursue.

Here at Sacred Heart, we believe that learning experiences do not just take place in the classroom, or even in school, but in our local community and further afield too.

We appreciate that pupils learn and develop into well-rounded individuals when they are performing on stage or in music concerts, when they are camping in the countryside, or when they are visiting other countries and experiencing other cultures.

We celebrate our Catholic traditions as a community and have a special relationship with the Parishes of Sacred Heart and English Martyrs. We encourage our pupils to ‘live their faith’ and work together to raise thousands of pounds for charity. This work allows our pupils to reach out and support not only their local community but also the needy elsewhere in the world.

Sacred Heart Catholic School is a united and happy community with a clear sense of purpose and direction. We promote a culture of respect for self and others and we have a very strict, traditional, and rigorous approach to discipline. Our pupils receive consistent messages about good behavior, appearance, manners, and trust. They learn to take responsibility for themselves and to understand their duties as good citizens. We want them to set high standards in their communities and to learn how to lead others with dignity and determination.

Sacred Heart Catholic School has received national recognition for the value it adds to enable students' high achievement at GCSE.

The school qualified for three SSAT Educational Outcomes Awards by being in the top 10% of non-selective schools for high attainment the top 10% nationally for progress made by pupils between their key stage 2 results at primary school and their GCSE results at age 16 and special recognition for their success in enabling students to fulfill their potential.
