Notre Dame High School is a six-year Roman Catholic comprehensive school. Our school community seeks to base its words and actions on the gospel values of service to our neighbor and love of God. We recognize the responsibility of parents as the first and foremost educators of their children. Staff at Notre Dame work in partnership with parents to help our young people grow in faith and to develop a mature and personal response to Christ.
Through the work of the headteacher, the staff, the school chaplain, and the Julie Billiart group we aim to maintain and develop the Catholic ethos of the school. The carefully designed RE program is further supported by the wider sacramental and liturgical life of the school through the regular celebration of Holy Mass, special liturgical services, retreats, and other such activities.
Although Notre Dame High School is a Catholic school, each year we welcome several pupils from different faiths. The developing spirituality of each of our young people is important, as it enhances and contributes to the spiritual life of the whole school community. As well as being part of Glasgow City Council’s school community, Notre Dame High School is also part of the wider community of Notre Dame schools around the world.
Respect is at the heart of all healthy relationships. Our S1 pupils have joined us from over 50 Glasgow Primary Schools and beyond. We value all our young people and want them to feel part of our community. Making new friends and maintaining existing friendships is a huge part of school life. We have a program of support to help young people to develop key social skills that will enable them to enjoy healthy and long-lasting friendships. Over the last month, our S1 pupils have benefited from several Health and Wellbeing sessions highlighting the difference between positive and negative behavior within relationships and strategies on how to cope with bullying behavior. Takeaway Theatre Company and Police Scotland delivered interactive workshops and presentations which also included valuable online safety and cyberbullying education. Mrs. Henderson, DHT Pupil Support introduced Anti-bullying Week to S1 and S2 with assembly workshops called ‘Respect Means’, pupils had their photos taken as part of a national conversation about what respect means to young people. Our Pastoral Care Team will deliver follow-up PSSE lessons called ‘Responding to Bullying’ and feedback from pupils will be analyzed and shared with staff, parents and pupils.
