Kew Green Preparatory School is housed in an attractive building, surrounded by mature trees and nestled in a peaceful corner of Kew Green. It is flanked by The Royal Botanical Gardens and The River Thames and we use these regularly along with the green itself.

We enthusiastically share our children’s education with their parents through our “open door policy”.
Kew Green is a thriving school community where laughter and enjoyment go hand in hand with the process of delivering a first-rate education. Kew College is a non-selective, family-oriented, co-educational, independent school for children from 3 to 11 years of age. It is advisable to register your child for entry to the Nursery as soon as possible. You may register your child from birth. Registered siblings are given priority. Non-registered siblings cannot be guaranteed a place in the school. Priority is also given to children of former Kew College pupils. Being registered does not guarantee a place at Kew College.
We have two Nursery classes, one in the morning and one in the afternoon – known respectively as Nursery Red and Nursery Yellow. We hold Open Mornings in June and September for parents of children registered to start in the Nursery the following calendar year. These Open Mornings are part of the admissions process and you must attend one of these events. Parents may visit the school at other times by arrangement with the Registrar. Places are offered in the Autumn term in the year before entry. Once offers are made, we require a deposit equal to half of the termly fees for the main school to secure a place. The deposit is reimbursed when your child leaves Year 6.
In the Lower School (ages 4-7), a secure foundation of basic skills is laid. Particular attention is given to numeracy and all aspects of literacy - reading, spelling, handwriting, and comprehension. Oral and listening skills are also developed. These essential skills are fostered across the whole curriculum. At the same time, individual and creative expression is nurtured and encouraged. Pupils have the same class teacher for the majority of lessons. We have expert specialist teachers who will teach the children in Lower School for Music, French, Art, and PE/Games.
Upper School pupils (ages 7-11) also have a class teacher, but many of their lessons are given by subject specialists. For all age groups, the maximum class size is 20. At every stage, the children are given awareness and understanding of the world around them. Our curriculum is enlivened and enriched by visitors to the school, educational trips, and clubs. We aim to relate academic learning to the real world beyond the classroom, whether this is with visits to our neighbor The Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew, botany lessons by the River Thames, or by meeting eminent guests who come to speak at the school. Parents are often involved in this and we encourage them to bring as much as possible to the daily life of the school.
At Kew Green Preparatory School we take our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain very seriously. We ensure that the fundamental British Values of mutual respect, understanding, and tolerance for those with different cultures, faiths, or beliefs democracy, rule of law, and respect for self and others are introduced, discussed, and lived out through our ethos which underpins the work of the school.
All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts and, in particular, work in RE, SMSC, PSHCE, and Current Affairs lessons provide excellent opportunities to deepen and develop this understanding. Children embrace these concepts with enthusiasm and demonstrate a good understanding of their application in their own lives. The school makes considerable efforts to ensure children have exposure to a wide range of experiences beyond their local community to help them understand these concepts. This is achieved through sporting events, residential visits, trips and visitors, cultural exploration, and celebration of a diverse range of religious and cultural groups. Our children will develop an excellent values-based understanding of fundamental British Values which gives them an excellent platform for understanding, celebrating, and embracing differences with tolerance and integrity.
e encourage and expect good behavior from our pupils. This is based on a whole-school ethos of care and tolerance for others rather than on a long list of rules and regulations. The primary purpose of discipline in a school is to allow effective learning to take place. A calm and ordered environment is needed for this and all our pupils are expected to behave accordingly. High expectations in behavior, as in learning, generally produce excellent results.
The Headmaster reserves the right to exclude any pupil for bad behavior pending discussions with parents and, ultimately, to require the removal of a disruptive pupil from the school.
