The British Education Korea Group currently operates across four sites in Seoul offering the English National Curriculum, with some adaptations to suit the local environment, including Mandarin for all children from nurseries upwards. Places are currently offered to students from 18 months up to Year 8.
Each campus has its distinctive ethos which, with the support of the local community, has evolved. However, all our locations share our common aims and values. The group encourages every child to be the best they can be with support and guidance offered at all stages of each student's journey to the senior school of their choice. We firmly believe that effective partnerships with parents are critical in developing each child’s leadership, confidence, and creativity, as well as a strong academic performance. This is all achieved by recruiting excellent teaching staff who place the welfare of the children at the heart of everything they do. The ultimate aim is to ensure that every child in our care is happy and has the absolute best possible start in life in preparation for a happy and successful future in the 21st Century.
Education is about much more than studying and passing exams. At British Education Korea we believe that our children should experience a unique character-molding journey, a ‘preparation’ for the next stage of their lives. As well as entry to excellent senior schools in Korea, Asia, and the UK, we will help our pupils develop the tools needed to meet the challenges of the working world and with the confidence to address the inevitable challenges they will face. The key to good schools is good teachers. We always look for professional, passionate people who care about helping every child be the best they can be.
The art of inquiry is the most natural gift we all possess. As humans, we are innately curious so it makes sense to tap into the natural curiosities of children to help them to learn. The British National Curriculum, which is the foundation of all our lessons across all age groups. One of the main advantages of an inquiry approach to learning is that it makes students active learners. Active learners recall information, engage in the process of understanding the concepts their learning is based on, and retain information for much longer. The steps to an inquiry approach to learning are rooted in setting up or posing questions that engage learners. The questions used are driven by National Curriculum objectives, but as students become older and more adept at driving their learning, many of the inquiry questions are posed by the students. Curriculum content naturally flows from one subject area to the other as studies are integrated and interrelated. The teacher set up the inquiry by locating the curriculum objectives within subject-specific content and shaping the information into a scheme of work. This allows students to create an end product. The teacher’s role is essential in designing activities that activate prior knowledge. Students learn best when they are active learns that ask questions, investigate solutions, create new knowledge as they gather information, discuss their discoveries and experiences and reflect on new knowledge. Learning is not based on teacher-directed lessons or recall. Students are learning the skills to synthesize, interpret and evaluate. Throughout the inquiry, students are assessed for content knowledge. An authentic assessment task is the preferred assessment type. This ensures that data that is gathered relates only to a student’s new knowledge as it relates to the objective of the inquiry.
We are fortunate to have purpose-built facilities and to be in the heart of the exciting and dynamic city of Seoul. Our indoor and outdoor learning spaces provide children with the opportunity to interact with and appreciate nature. This is designed to help the children develop a deep understanding of everyone’s role to care for our world. In our program design, we recognize that an integrated community of diverse people is fundamental to a successful education great facilities and curriculum attracts committed and experienced teachers who are passionately attached to molding young minds and to serving their community. Our teachers come from a variety of countries, bringing with them substantial early years and international teaching experience. Our faculty seeks to nurture and develop the 'whole child' by providing experiences that enhance a child’s cognitive and affective domains. Our teachers are responsive to children’s unique abilities and they design plans for the individual learning needs of our children. We believe that what defines our early year's program is the ability to link the best teachers with a responsive curriculum, in a caring environment.
The British Pre-Prep, Bundang House features an integrated learning environment specially designed to stimulate the learning and development of young children from 18 months upwards. The environment is culturally diverse with a wonderful mix of Korean and expatriate families. The children are therefore immersed in an international environment ensuring that children pick up languages spontaneously through a range of meaningful learning experiences in diversity. They learn how to respect diverse traditions and interact with teachers and friends from other nationalities. We offer the renowned inquiry-based approach to learning where children’s ideas, interests, and theories inform the design of curriculum experiences. We encourage young children to explore their environment and express themselves using multiple ways of learning. During a child’s time at The British Pre-Prep, they will learn how to connect their innate curiosity to understand the world they live in. They will be inspired to become innovative leaders who are capable, resilient, and caring. Upon graduation, our children will be given a variety of school choices to extend their learning.
