Kuwait Bilingual School (KBS) was established in 1998 as the first bilingual school in al jahra city in Kuwait and is still today the only institution of its kind in that city. KBS is a non-profit bilingual educational institution, which currently has a school population of students from kg1 to grade 12. The policy allows for 25 students per class.
Kuwait Bilingual School became an authorized IB World School in June 2013 offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP). IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education—that we believe is important for our students.
Kuwait Bilingual School has been officially accepted as a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB-MYP). This means that KBS is pursuing authorization as an IB-MYP world school. These are the schools that share a common philosophy, a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education that KBS believes is important for our students.
Students in the 21st century are faced with the challenge of learning about an interconnected world where knowledge is constantly developing. The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme prepares students to be active participants in a lifelong journey of learning.
The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), for students aged 3 to 12, focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. At the heart of the program's philosophy is a commitment to the structured, purposeful inquiry as to the leading vehicle for learning.
These themes are about issues that have meaning for and are important too, all of us. The program offers a balance between learning about or through the subject areas and learning beyond them. The six themes of global significance create a transdisciplinary framework that allows students to "step up" beyond the confines of learning within subject areas.
The six transdisciplinary themes help teachers to develop a program of inquiries–in-depth investigations into important ideas, identified by the teachers, and requiring a high level of involvement on the part of the students. These inquiries are substantial, in-depth, and usually last for several weeks.
Assessment is an important part of each unit of inquiry as it both enhances learning and provides opportunities for students to reflect on what they know, understand, and can do. The teacher's feedback to the students provides the guidance, the tools, and the incentive for them to become more competent, more skillful, and better at understanding how to learn.
Currently, at KBS we are working on improving the guidance curriculum that consists of structured developmental lessons. We hope that the school's counseling curriculum provides students with a better understanding of the scope and sequence related to counseling topics. The guidance counselor visits classes and works with the teacher to either provide instruction, the team teaches, or assist in teaching counseling-related topics connected to the class's unit of inquiry.
The IB goal is to provide students with the values and opportunities that will enable them to develop sound judgments, make wise choices and respect others in the global community. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) is a purpose-built five-year program (Grades 6-10, ages 11-16) for international schools and is now being taught and implemented worldwide, with considerable growth in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The IB MYP is geared to meet the needs of IB World Schools, as well as other school systems. It builds upon skills and units of inquiry learning developed in the IB Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). IB PYP teaching and learning “focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside” (IB). The IB MYP also relies on connecting classroom pedagogical practices and content to the world outside through the Global Contexts and the Learner Profile. The IB MYP is followed by the IB Diploma Programme which is internationally-recognized, university-entrance qualification for students studying outside of their home country.
Is the person trained and qualified to help students solve problems and facilitate their understanding themselves as well as understanding their strengths and weaknesses until the child can reach the maximum degree of growth allowed by their abilities in all aspects ( psychological - social - academic and family ).
The students are still in childhood stages and therefore have developmental characteristics that differ from the rest of the individuals. The counseling of children during the basic stage is responsible for helping the child to achieve healthy growth and integrated compatibility. The educational counselor acts as a bridge between the student, the teacher, and the family this comes only through good relations with the three parties.
