Educating children for most of my adult life. If you are reading this letter it is likely because we share that commitment and the idea that it is through education that we can make a difference in the lives of our children, and through them in the world that we share.
Education is fundamentally about the future, and about our shared belief that we can change the futures of our children for the better. Sometimes we speak of education as making an “investment” in those futures. I think, however, “investment” might not capture all of what is important about what it is we are doing when we make that most important decision about what school will best serve our children.
There is an adage that says “Society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they do not expect to sit.” Education is like the planting of those trees. Education is not just an investment, but an act of faith that we can produce not only better futures for our children but also children well-educated who can make that world a better place.
We live in unique and challenging times, and at NJIS we strive to educate our students for that future. We understand that we need to tend to our students as individuals, and as capable learners who need to be equipped with the skills that are necessary for success. We recognize that it is important for students to have creative learning opportunities to prepare them to meet unknown challenges. We ensure that we provide time in class for students to share their ideas, express their opinions and describe their perspectives so they can be ready to collaborate across boundaries to solve common problems. We encourage the students to engage in real-world experience projects that allow them to learn through topics that interest them.
In short, we at NJIS are planting those trees – and lots of them. We are preparing our students for a future, and shaping that future by that preparation.
Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will ever make, and we are eager to help you make it. I invite you to learn more about us not only through our website but by arranging a personal visit to our campus. See for yourself how students and faculty interact with one another. Browse the library and computer labs, visit the classrooms, and take in our theater. I am confident that you will discover that NJIS is an exceptional place, where learning becomes a lifelong skill.
Welcome to the NJIS Library. At NJIS we believe that the library is the heart of any school. Our mission is to inspire, encourage and equip our school community for a lifelong love of reading and learning while supporting and enhancing school curricular and co-curricular activities.
Towards this aim, we provide a comfortable, happy and quiet environment for our inquisitive young learners and endeavor to support the whole school community in their pursuit of quality information and leisure reading material.
We encourage all learners and parents to borrow books from our library. Research consistently proves that reading for pleasure is highly related to learner achievement and improvement in literacy. This includes reading, writing, comprehension, spelling, and vocabulary. To expose learners to a wide range of texts and topics, learners are encouraged to borrow fiction (literary) and non-fiction (factual texts).
