The foundation for the development of an individual's personality is created during the first years of life. Kaban Montessori in Mississauga is a school that offers your children an excellent beginning with fully trained teachers in the Montessori philosophy. We strive to create a child-centered approach that encourages more creativity, imagination, and questions.
Kaban is an ancient Mayan word and symbol that means "earth". Kaban is where children, the 'seeds' find the perfect place to grow, having an environment that allows them to absorb whatever they need to meet individual challenges. At Kaban, students are encouraged to explore and discover at their own pace. We provide a nurturing environment where children can develop their self-esteem, independence, and confidence. Through social learning, children can also learn teamwork and problem-solving skills. Our Montessori curriculum provides constructive and consistent learning experiences that allow children to develop socially, academically, and physically.
Kaban offers a holistic environment with careful consideration of space, people, time, and the classroom's selection of activities. We offer age-specific programs such as Infant/Toddler Program, Casa Program, and Elementary; children are also welcomed to join our After School Program for fun and meaningful activities.
We are proud to have built a tight community among the children, parents, teachers, and neighborhood. We believe that when working together as a team, we can accomplish much more. Kaban Teachers maintain close relationships with parents in order to support and aid their child's development. To enhance children's sense of community, Kaban students are also given the opportunity and encouraged to interact with the natural world beyond the school. We educate children on the importance of respecting themselves and others and how to care for and respect the balance between humans and the environment.
Our school practices a progressive method of education. Students are free to learn and express their creativity through their unique learning process. Under specific ground rules, they make their own choices, take risks, make mistakes, and learn to correct themselves. This individualized approach allows children to develop confidence and competence.
Arts and culture are an essential part of a child's day in a Montessori classroom. Children are exposed to different cultures from all over the world and gain awareness of global issues. We also incorporate additional languages such as French and Spanish, into the school curriculum. To promote physical activity throughout the day, all children will participate in cultural dance classes. We believe exploring cultural diversity can teach children respect and sensitivity for all life.
Kaban Montessori School proudly serves the Peel region under the CCMA (Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators) accreditation. We comply with all CCMA standards and preserve the Montessori philosophy of education. Our professionally trained teachers play a huge role in observing each child's learning curve and offer holistic teaching approaches that help guide children through their learning journey.
The Montessori Elementary Program continues to strive for the same goals as the Montessori Casa Program: to instill a lifelong love of learning in the children, to instill a sense of respect for self and others, and to help the children become independent, confident individuals and caring, responsible members, of their communities.
The Montessori Elementary Program builds on the foundation of skills acquired in the Casa Program. Montessori education stresses' learning how to learn. Students are encouraged to do their research, analyze their findings, and come to their conclusions. Montessori teaches students to think, not merely memorize, reproduce on tests or exams, and forget. They learn how to learn, discovering along the way that the process of learning is fun, enjoyable, and as natural as breathing.
Far from just passively giving students the "right answers," Montessori teachers ask the "right questions" and challenge students to find new solutions or discover the answers on their own. This is a critical element of the Montessori program that prepares children to succeed in the real world of ideas, enterprise, and challenging perspectives. Learning the right answers may get children through a test, but learning how to learn will succeed through life.
The Casa Program helps children hone their Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, and Language skills. Kaban Montessori School is a prepared environment that involves the careful coordination of space, people, time, and the selection of activities and materials chosen for the classrooms. How these elements are combined will vary according to the stage of development.
The Casa classroom is usually divided into four distinct areas: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, and Language. Although these areas represent parts of the Montessori curriculum, it is essential to remember that they are not subjects and are not taught in isolation.
