Mississippi Valley State University is a public, coeducational university serving over 2500 students from diverse backgrounds. Established in 1950, MVSU is the youngest Institution in the Mississippi Public University System. The University is entirely accredited and offers 36 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The beautiful campus is located in the heart of the Mississippi Delta.
Mississippi Valley State University is located in Leflore County, one mile northeast of Itta Bena, adjacent to U.S. Highway 82. The Institution is located on a 450-acre tract of land. The site for campus development consists of 200 acres.
Mississippi Valley State University is approximately five miles from Greenwood, a population of 18,425, and approximately 50 miles from Greenville, a population of 41,633. The University is approximately 100 miles north of Jackson, Mississippi, and 120 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee. It is located in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, where 34 percent of the state's black population is located.
The mission of the University Police is to protect and secure all students, faculty, staff, and guests on the Mississippi Valley State University Campus. To provide and share data that ensures quality law enforcement and security response to campus incidents. To comply with the Jeanne Clery Act and provide protective programs and training to all of Mississippi Valley State University's faculty, staff, and students, maintaining the highest standards in promoting security and law enforcement for all students, staff, and faculty.
The University Police Department follows the fundamental principle and delivers its services to preserve and advance democratic values. The Police Department also protects the right of all members of the University as guaranteed by the United States Constitution.
The Department is committed to maintaining the highest level of integrity and professionalism in all its operations. In a sense, professionalism means adherence to impeccable integrity and careful protection of the rights of those authorized to enforce the law.
The Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (IRE) collects and disseminates information related to students, courses, personnel, programs, and resources at MVSU. In a combined role of institutional research and institutional effectiveness, IRE also supports effectiveness planning and strategic planning at MVSU. Overall, the office employs a comprehensive system of data-driven processes that allow the University to demonstrate how effectively it achieves its mission. The University Testing Office is part of the Institutional Research and Effectiveness unit.
