Since the pioneering spirit of early missionaries in Malaysia in 1891, Methodist Education has shaped the lives of thousands of students for 125 years. Our Wesley Methodist Schools (WMS) tradition gives the school a special character, that stands apart from the other school models: the WMS tradition of Christian values, service to the community, and all-around quality education. Wesley Methodist School has become a name synonymous with producing the A.C.E. student, Academically excellent children, trained in Character values, and pursues Extra-curricular achievements. This philosophy lies at the heart of our mission to help our students reach their full potential. The school's fundamental philosophy is:

  • We believe that each student is made in the image of God, endowed with inherent dignity, and thus worthy of love, respect, and acceptance. We believe that each student is a unique individual endowed with distinctive character, aptitudes, and abilities. We believe in the nurture and development of the whole person – the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical, and social – to his or her fullest potential.
  • We recognize that the teacher plays a crucial role in fulfilling our Vision and Mission. We believe that passion for teaching, love for young people, moral character, professional competency, and good communication skills are critical prerequisites. Further, we believe that teachers of the Christian faith can best impact students through their godly character and lifestyle based on a vital personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • We believe that the school should provide a wholesome and non-threatening environment, where the student feels welcomed, secure, and happy, and which promotes individual learning, growing, thinking, as well as interpersonal skills and respect for others in the context of a multi-ethnic and multi-religious community. We recognize that the school should not replace but complement the home in the responsibility and task of nurturing training, and socialization of the young person.
  • We believe that the school should impart the highest and noblest of human knowledge to the student. Further, we believe that educational excellence goes beyond academic results to encompass the meaningful learning of the subject matter. The curriculum should encourage critical and creative thinking, instill an appreciation of the sciences, arts, and culture, and promote character formation and responsible citizenship. At the same time, attention should also be given to the informal curriculum and other forms of extra-curricular activities.

At WMS Penang (International) we follow an integrated curriculum that places emphasis on academic excellence and focuses on the development of the whole child addressing social, physical, emotional, cultural, spiritual, and academic needs for learners from age 4 to 16.

WMS Penang (International) adopts the internationally recognized British Cambridge curriculum for Primary School Year 1 to Year 6 and Secondary School Year 7 to Year 11, leading to the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (I.G.C.S.E.) and A-Levels in Year 12 to Year 13. Students sit for the externally assessed Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) examinations: Cambridge Primary Checkpoint in Year 6, Cambridge Secondary 1 Checkpoint in Year 9, and International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) in Year 11 and Cambridge International A-Levels.
