KAS strives to be one of the finest American International Schools in the World. Kaohsiung American School (KAS) is a private, non-profit, co-educational Pre-K – 12 institutions offering an American, college preparatory program leading to a US high school diploma and the opportunity for an IB Diploma.
KAS is located in the northern area of Kaohsiung city, the second-largest city in Taiwan with 1.5 million inhabitants. Kaohsiung American School was established in 1989 as an elementary school serving the needs of local and expatriate families with children. KAS is a world-class American school with bright students, skilled and helpful faculty and staff, a caring and ambitious community, a dedicated Board of Directors, and supportive parents. Together, we make KAS a special and rewarding place to learn. We are excited to continue as KAS’s Superintendent, as the KAS community is such a wonderful place. I’m originally from Colorado in the USA. My career in education has included years as a head of school, principal, vice-principal, and teacher of math and science at the high school and middle school levels in Louisiana and Colorado in the USA, and also in Vanuatu in the south Pacific. At KAS we think B.I.G.! We want our students to be creative critical thinkers that are Balanced individuals, Independent learners, and Global citizens. We always keep these goals in mind, and we choose our actions based on what we believe is best for our students.
We are fortunate to learn here at our world-class campus in Kaohsiung right across from Zuoying Station near Lotus Pond. Our new campus has earned LEED Silver certification for our classrooms and offices, and LEED Gold certification for our new athletic complex. That means that KAS students learn in one of the healthiest and most efficient schools in Asia.
Our campus supports our pursuit to be one of the finest American international schools in the world. To us, this means that we embrace the three As – Academics, Athletics, and the Arts. Our elementary students learn in one of the most highly regarded and enriching schools in Asia. At the middle school level, we add the enhancement of the Middle Years Program (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB). In our high school, we offer a rigorous liberal arts curriculum with pathways in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and also the Advanced Placement (AP) program. We complement this with a rich curriculum of athletics, fine arts, and performing arts. At KAS we are all learners who care deeply about education – that includes students, faculty, staff, parents, our school board, and our community. We have truly become a world-class school.
