Once you step into Amman National School, you can’t but sense something special about it. It is a place where friendships begin, passions are discovered, and talents are nurtured. Students are known well by teachers and administrators. Parents pitch in to help teachers, read to children and organize funfairs. Alumni drop by just to say hello.
Happiness, friendship, care, kindness, and success blend effortlessly, creating the unique ethos and family atmosphere of our school. As a relatively small school of 800 students, aged 4 – 18 years, we can nurture and develop our students in a safe yet stimulating environment. The close care and strong support for each individual are genuinely personalized. A wide range of co-curricular activities are smoothly and effectively incorporated into our challenging curriculum, leaving students enthused in their learning journey and very proud of their achievements.
ANS offers a place where students develop the confidence to be intellectually and creatively fearless whether they are singing during a 3rd-grade concert, leading the basketball team to victory, or organizing a science fair. Students find their unique voice at ANS. And while each voice is distinct, together they create a joyful chorus that echoes throughout the school hallways.
The father, Mohammad Yousef Taher, who has always believed that good education is the key to positive social change and development, has financed the school and has been an inspiring spirit to the school’s prosperity throughout the years.
The school started with grades 1-3 in a rented building. Two years later, the school moved to its current location in Dabouk for grades KG-5. From then onward, the school added a grade every year. The first graduating class was in 1995. Since then, the school has continued to expand and extra facilities and classrooms have been added to provide more learning space and services. ANS, now, has a full enrollment of 800 students from KG-12th grade.
ANS is licensed by the Jordanian Ministry of Education and offers the Jordanian National Program for grades (1-12). Students can join an international program starting 9th grade. ANS is authorized to give the International Baccalaureate Diploma for grades (11-12).
The majority of students at ANS are Jordanians however, the student body comprises Algerians, Americans, Cypriots, Egyptians, Lebanese, Moroccans, Palestinians, Syrians, Swedish, and Tunisians. ANS is proud to have a trained, experienced and devoted staff. The ratio of students to teachers is 1:8.
ANS will be an effective agent of change whereby ANS students will be responsible, tolerant, and productive citizens committed to making a difference in their community and the world. Amman National School is committed to helping each student attain academic achievement and interpersonal skills while paving his/her unique path in this journey. We aim to help children become open-minded and active citizens in a global world while maintaining their Arab identity and heritage.
Our Kindergarten consists of 6 classrooms (KG1 and KG2). Classes include up to 25 children with two lead teachers in each class introducing Arabic and English simultaneously. We have highly qualified teachers who average over 10 years of experience at our school. Families and volunteers are an integral part of our program as well.
We provide a play-based program that introduces skills through interdisciplinary themes and hands-on projects. We believe in providing learning activities that are concrete, authentic, developmentally appropriate, and relevant to the lives of young children. Children participate in outdoor play and music classes with our music specialist. We cater to the “whole” child and pay special attention to the social and emotional aspects of development. Classrooms are rich and varied and are divided into centers where children act as young scholars constructing knowledge and exploring the environment around them. Our flexible and developmentally challenging curriculum allows for individual growth and instills life-long learning in our children.
Children engage in listening, speaking, reading, and writing daily. Teachers use a balanced approach that uses whole language and phonics instruction in both English and Arabic. Equal emphasis is placed on the joy of reading. Teachers read stories daily and children are provided with the opportunity to discuss the stories and acquire new vocabulary. All children are viewed as capable writers as they journal and write stories. Dictation and transitional spelling help our youngest children express their ideas in writing right from the start.
Amman National Primary School includes grades 1-6. We follow the constructivist approach to teaching and learning it is child-centered, emphasizes active learning, and focuses on the child as a whole. The school aims to balance teaching basic skills with creativity and real-life application of the skills learned.
ANS has adopted the guidelines of the Jordanian Ministry of Education in a way that best fits the needs of the students. Instruction is mainly in Arabic, as we believe children think and learn best through their own experiences using their native language. A rigorous English program is taught daily. Science in English is introduced in grade 5 to boost the students’ scientific terminology.
Our nurturing program and flexible teaching techniques allow our students to build confidence and self-discipline as they develop morals and values. We believe in an emphasis on creative ability, self-expression, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and project-based learning. Community is an important aspect of our school. We have active room parents, and families are encouraged to often volunteer in the classroom.
Middle school represents a significant turning point in students’ life. It is a time of transition from childhood to adolescence – a period filled with mental, moral, social, emotional, and physical changes. It is when the students seek to acquire distinct identities, a personal set of values and assert their independence.
Because of the nature of this critical period in the students’ life, utmost support and encouragement are offered through providing a warm and friendly atmosphere within an environment characterized by flexibility and trust.
To develop and maximize student performance, teachers aim at achieving learning outcomes that go beyond basic knowledge to encompass the development of analytical, critical, and practical thinking and to integrate different fields of knowledge. Teachers also aim at helping students to understand themselves and to forge personal sets of values, interests maintaining, at all times, respect for and understanding of others.
At ANS we believe that a high school is a place where students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for their future field of study and career of choice. We strive to offer our students a smooth transition from middle school. We are committed to the personal and academic growth of each student and strives to provide an education that enables and empowers its students to develop their intellectual, emotional, and physical abilities, to understand and respect the similarities and differences among themselves and others, and to develop a sense of belonging to the larger community. Students participate in creative projects and service-learning activities as well as attend various national and international conferences and seminars to help them become involved citizens locally and globally.
