SIS Swiss International School is a private day school committed to consistent and genuine bilingual classroom instruction, we offer education on all levels from kindergarten through to secondary school. Teaching at SIS is based on our established and unified school concept.
SIS operates 16 bilingual day schools in Switzerland, Germany, and Brazil. From preschool through to secondary school, more than 3.700 students from both local and internationally mobile families are educated in English and German. In Germany, we have schools at six locations. The combination of an international outlook and close ties to the local community empowers our students to take on the challenges of today’s globalized world with confidence. Our teaching philosophy is non-ideological but founded on clearly defined core values such as honesty, appreciation, personal responsibility, and integrity.
In addition to the German Abitur, our students also complete the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. With this dual qualification, they are ideally prepared for continuing their education at a German or an international university. The SIS primary school curriculum is consistent with the state curriculum which is supplemented by elements of international educational practice as well as by pedagogical standards developed by SIS. By attending our Primary School, children are ideally prepared for the transition into our bilingual Secondary School. Students can transfer from and into the public school system at any time.
At our Secondary Schools, we prepare students for the German Abitur and, if desired, for the globally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB). SIS Swiss International School's bilingual Secondary Schools are private all-day schools that offer targeted preparation for completing a university entrance qualification. At SIS’s bilingual Secondary Schools, teaching is based on the curriculum of the respective German federal state. English and German are equally important, both as languages of instruction and in other parts of daily school life. Each subject is taught exclusively in one language for at least one academic year. We take great care to ensure that the overall distribution of lessons in German and English is as equal as possible and that students learn the relevant subject-specific terminology in both languages.
When they graduate, our students should be able to attain the German Abitur school-leaving certificate and, if desired, the International Baccalaureate (IB). This opens up a variety of opportunities for SIS students to pursue further education and professional experience at home and abroad.
