Woodford Green Preparatory School Known locally as the "Red School" because of the scarlet uniforms, Woodford Green Preparatory School was founded in 1932 to provide a non-denominational Christian education for boys and girls, a tradition that has been maintained throughout our history and expansion to some 384 pupils.

Regular assemblies, attended by all, reinforce the community spirit. Pupils are encouraged to take on responsibility. All the top year have community duties, including assisting younger children. While we are justifiably proud of our excellent record of success in entrance examinations for selective secondary schools, we believe that moral, social, and cultural education carry equal weight. Every child in the school is equally important to us, wherever their talents lie.

The friendly, supportive environment, in which good work, good behavior, and helpfulness are positively reinforced, encourages all children to develop to their potential. We believe strongly that children ought to enjoy their time at school.

We encourage pupils to strive to do their very best through a broad range of experiences. Pupils learn best when they are happy and feel secure. Our dedicated staff works hard to ensure that pupils are supported through excellent pastoral care. Our curriculum is broad and exciting, designed to stimulate a life-long love of learning. Pupils gain independence, resourcefulness and are provided with support and challenge. This is reflected in the recent ISI Inspection Report which highlights the many areas of excellence, which we continually strive to achieve.

Our Vision To be known as a school where every pupil is nurtured, encouraged to be curious, and achieves their very best. We are committed to:

  • Fostering the full development of each member of our school.
  • Seeking excellence and inspiring a love for teaching and learning.
  • Encouraging individual learning and thinking, value ourselves, and having a commitment to the care and wellbeing of others within our school.
  • Maintaining and enhancing a safe and healthy environment that promotes a sense of belonging, pride, and achievement.

The School's success rate with 11+ entries to a wide range of Senior Schools, both in the independent and state sectors, indicates that the curriculum meets all the requirements of these schools and enables pupils to make a smooth transition to secondary education. Our curriculum is subject to regular review and new ideas are continually discussed and encouraged.
